The Flaming Lips, BRMC, Z-trip, Galactic, Delta Spirit, with full sets from BRMC, and The Flaming Lips for free at last year's soco music fest in SD. Fucking shit. i'm an idiot. More on other shows later. This one depressed me enough.

Coachella 06 comes to mind, but I didn't have the means to get there.

In terms of shows I had a feasible chance of attending...

Gogol Bordello at House of Blues last summer, Gnarls Barkley at the Viejas concert thing they have set up, Elbow at Bimbo's 365 (had tickets, too), Ryan Adams and the Cardinals at the Catalyst last February, Lollapalooza 2007.

Gogol Bordello and Primus at Mesa Ampitheater (AZ).

The Black Keys in Portland, recently.
X in Portland, recently.
The Avett Brothers in Portland, recently.

And Daft Punk in 06 is a very sensative subject for me.
We left Daft Punk. Enough said.
Huge mistake.

I'm going to win this thread. because this is the most massive fuckup ever. (I have told this story before on here so oldtimers, forgive my repeating myself).

April 1, 1981. I had a chance to see U2 in a small club in Houston for $5. I didn't go, even though I owned Boy and loved it and stuff. I didn't go.. because.. you ready for this? because a group of friends were going to see Heart at the Summit and I had agreed to go with them and had a ticket.

That's right. I passed on a chance to see one of the greatest bands in rock and roll history in an intimate space so that I could see a 70s dinosaur in an arena. No concert fuck up can compare with this.

I think we had a thread like this before last year. But I'd say Grateful Dead in 1975 (silly me, I decided to study for a test which I failed anyways), Daft Punk @ Coachella (no excuse, just wanted to go home early), and Sunday @ Coachella 2008 due to spewing chunks.

Wow. Tom definately wins. I have one almost as bad though.

In 2006 a friend invited me to see Velvet Revolver and I said yes. A little while later I found out Death From Above 1979 were comming to town that night. I felt bad about cancelling, so I didn't, and I went to see Velvet Revolver. A few months later, DFA 1979 broke up. That is, by far, my biggest concert regret.

Having tickets for and not going to:

1. Daft Punk @ Keyspan - Sure, I'd seen them twice by then but it still hurts.
2. Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem in NYC - Bad financial planning, period.
3. All Points West - Had tickets since they first came out and lost out because the girlfriend asked for her days off 5 months too late and couldn't even get a singular day.

How about best show you went to but were too fucked up to really enjoy/remember it?

I was rolling so stupidly hard for saturday night Coachella 2007 that I pretty much can't remember Justice or LCD Soundsystem. I remember hallucinating but that's about it.

I've realized that if the only reason you are missing a show is because you are alone, you are fucking lame. Go by yourself if you have too, but don't miss a show you really want to see. That is how I missed a lot of shows late 06-Early 07 when I first started going to shows.

hate myself for it

i hate you for that too!!! i was sitting in the eisenhower medical center waiting for my friend with a sprained ankle during portishead!

i am still beyond pissed that i missed ben folds five in 1999. they were my favourites in high school. i was THE first person to buy tickets, 2nd row, celebrity theatre in arizona. i had plans to make a "marry me, ben folds" shirt the day of and try to make that happen, lol, i was obsessed.

well, the day of the show i'm driving around and hear on the radio about the ben folds five show... from LAST NIGHT! apparently it had been moved to the night prior at a different venue and i didn't know :(

i was so sad i wrote them a letter and even sealed it with my very last and favourite glow-in-the-dark "god is awesome" stegasaurus sticker. i never got to see them and to this day i am still pissed about it, lol.

OH, and i'm also bummed i missed the hard knock life tour in 98 or 99. i had a ticket, but my girlfriend that was coming with me got grounded the day of and sold her ticket to someone i didn't like. i was afraid to go by myself, but had already dropped acid, so i ended up selling the ticket and just frying at olive garden with a friend. i'm still glad i didn't go by myself as that would have been dangerous, but i'm pissed i didn't do more to find someone else to go.

and yes, tom still wins this thread :)

I had gone to the Universal show the night before and was supposed to ditch school the next day and drive to SF with a friend and his older brother... My parents found out about the whole fucking plan and had it nixed, I had a ticket and everything.

I haven't heard anything, but, considering they played both the El Rey and Coachella recently, they've been around quite a bit. THe last time they had played southern California before that was in 2005 as an opener.

They're definitely not going on hiatus anytime soon if the past few shows I saw are any indication. A few new songs were peppered in.

Radiohead at Alpine Valley, Aug. 23, 2003. My friend offered me a free ticket but I was unable to go because I had a mandatory football scrimmage that Saturday against another college. I later found out that they got to the front rail rather easily, and among other songs, they got to hear Karma Police, WIE&YB, Go to Sleep, Just, Scatterbrain, YAWA?, and Myxomatosis. I still hate myself.

I am one of those who missed Daft Punk at Coachella 06. I saw them at Red Rocks a year later but I still get bummed by this and it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. We just left after Depeche Mode's set because we were tired. I still remember to this day hearing around the world on the way to the parking lot and saying to my sister "oh well, it is just a dj set anyways". Boy was I wrong on so many levels. On Monday I picked up a LAtimes and saw pictures of their show and my heart sank. Even worst was the board at the times were nuts with Daft reviews. I was depressed for months and 06 still stands as my worst Coachella based on bad decisions (we decided to see Madonna the next day) and a sub par Sigur Ros performance because of technical difficulties.

And the only problem with Meshuggah opening for Ministry on the last tour was that they didn't stop in between songs causing it to sound like one long song

I've seen them live too but its that show at the Pound I really wanted to go to. I heard it was one of the best shows the Pound ever had. It was sold out and alot of shit went down.

I havent seen Meshuggah since 03 when they headlined with Strapping Young Lad.

Possibly, but pretty sure they were not at the Coach House gig.

OOOOOO

Here's one

Beck at the Echo in 2006. I had a ticket, was going to check out online, and my roommate unplugged our internet cord so he could work on the router. If he would have done it 5 seconds later, I would have gone to the show. Instead, he fucked me out of seeing him at the Echo that time. I saw him there later, but still.

I actually have a case where the band missed me.

I purchased my tix for the R.E.M.'s 95 Monster tour the day they went on sale. I was a huge fan , but I was more interested in the opening act....Radiohead.

They were touring in support of the bends but I would guess at this stage they would have already been trying out O.K. Computer songs. Anyway Bill Berry decided to get a brain tumor, the show was postponed and the replacement opening act ended up being.....wait for it. Luscious Jackson!

Seriously as I write this I'm getting enraged all over again. Fuck that, not my fault though.

That reminds me of one that wasn't my fault. Pearl Jam 04, Riverbend in Cincinnati. It's a venue right next to the Ohio River and it flooded so the show was cancelled. I did see them in Columbus a couple days later though.

Area 2 in Philly (probably actually Camden). Had tickets, couldn't go. Ended up burning them for less than half what I paid. I got to see Moby that year but not David Bowie.

I'm sure Radiohead at Bull Run would have been legendary. 2001. Second night. Beta Band, Thievery Corp, Kid Koala to open. 12500 capacity.

Not going to bother listing all the shows for which I was out of town or couldn't get rides or tickets. That would take all night.

Near the end of my senior year of high school my friends decided to go see the Rolling Stones at the Forum. My parents were unsure as to whether they should let me go. Their deciding factor was my fucking brother who was back East for college. HE felt I wasn't ready to go up to LA on my own yet. What a fucking douche!! I still hold that against both my parents and my brother, especially my brother considering I was the one who really got him in to music and finally got him to Coachella in 2002. He's been back ever since. I have yet to see The Stones live and have resigned myself to the fact that I probably never will.

You can get middling seats for an okay price, and it's worth it to see them perform. Take your daughter when she's 6 or 7. That way, she can say she saw the stones before they died. How cool would that be 40 years down the line?

I was on the guest list for Asobi Seksu at their first LA show, but couldn't go because it was a school night during finals week and I had no way of getting home (last bus on Sunset would have left before the show ended and I didn't want to be stranded all night and not enough money for a cab and nobody I knew wanted to go because they suck).

My mom scored great U2 tickets the last time they came to town (over 100 years ago...the Pixies opened) and they were given away because my sister got sick. We were all also supposed to go see New Kids on the Block, however, but my sister got sick, too.

Yeah, they played the Echo. I still have a poster somewhere in storage. I was on the street team and put up posters in various places in the city. They kept getting covered or stolen, though. I must have put at least 5 at Amoeba over the course of two weeks. Someone said "oooh, that's pretty, can I have one?" I said "sure, if you promise to attend", but who knows...

They played the Echo Oct. 6, 2006, and were back soon after that. Weird that they'd play two shows in such short duration. I guess the Troub show was very sparsely attended, and they were the opener.

Technically i went, but didn't get in.

i got hosed on the White Stripes show that was happening at Icky Thump Records (the former Tower on Sunset). my friend had me on the list. Unfortunatley for me i have this picture taking problem and was doing that before i decided to get in line. With about 8 people in front of me the line stops and the poeple up front are starting to get pissed. Fire Marshall capped the show and wouldn't let any more people in (which was a fucking load of shit because i chose to hang out and hear what i could...while seeing fire fighting folk letting their friends in...assholes, if you're reading this "fuuuuck yooooou"). my friend who works for Warner was outside trying to argue my way in, but the fire dicks weren't budging.

What i heard on the outside and from witness accounts, the show ruled. i wasn't too pissed at the time because i had floor tickets for the upcoming Forum show...and then that got cancelled.

Oh well. Pictures:

I've seen AFI about 4 times.

1. Not So Silent Night 2001
2. BFD 2003
3. BFD 2006
4. Bill Graham Civic Auditorium with Tiger Army and Saosin.

There were 3 times I wanted to see them but had no chance
1. BFD 2000. They played the same time as some other band. I forgot who.
2. October of 03 at the San Jose Civic Auditorium with Throwdown and Bleeding Through.
3. Slims back in 06 when Decemberunderground came out. That show sold out not even in half a second.
