Soul legend Isaac Hayes dead at 65
(CNN) -- Soul singer and arranger Isaac Hayes, who won Grammy awards and an Oscar for the theme from the 1971 action film "Shaft," has died, sheriff's officials in Memphis, Tennessee, reported Sunday.

Relatives found Hayes, 65, unconscious in his home next to a still-running treadmill, said Steve Schular, a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.

Paramedics attempted to revive him and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m., the sheriff's department said.

No foul play is suspected, the agency said in a written statement.

Hayes was a longtime songwriter and arranger for Stax Records in Memphis, playing in the studio's backup band and crafting tunes for artists such as Otis Redding and Sam and Dave in the 1960s.

He released his first solo album in 1967.

In 1971, the theme from "Shaft" became a pop hit and won an Academy Award for best original theme song. The song and the movie score also won Grammy awards for best original score and movie theme.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

God, I was afraid it was just me that happened to. Even after donating the first time I saw it, those big brown eyes always turn me into pathetic mush and give me a huge lump in my throat!

totally. I"m listening to the Black Moses album right now. Excellent stuff. I loved his music. All these great soul legends are dying off. I'm seeing Al Green next time he comes to town. He just played the Greek with Gladys Knight but I passed it up. I'm seeing him next time no doubt. I love soul music and haven't gotten to see any legends live. I was thinking about going to Sunset Junction just to see Issac Hayes. Never got to see Hayes, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding...damn

Omg you guys are dead-on. I have the exact same reaction, up until not too long ago, I pretty much cried everytime I saw that fucking commercial. Everyone of those animals look soo depressed, then you see the one-eyed dog and those cats in cages. That song doesnt fucking help either. God Bless Sarah Mclachlan(sp!) for doing what she's doing. I'm THIS close to just signing up so I can get that t-shirt and the picture of an animal I helped.

And seriously dude, R.I.P Isaac. You know he'e banging angels left and right up there.

So was I. I was looking forward to seeing him more than anyone else on the lineup. This is somewhat selfish of me but I really hope they replace him with somebody good because he was biggest on the lineup by far.

On issac's site there is a recent picture of from left to right...Bernie Mac, Issac and then Samuel.
Kind of scary

Samuel L. Jackson can't die. All those Chuck Norris jokes are actually true when applied to Jackson.

Yea, but like M Sparks said, it's less said when it's a scientologist song writing genius.

it's taken me a little while to come to grips with this one.
this is the last straw-
scientology is fucking up to something unimaginably sinister.
he was not ready to go.
they fucking did something to him.
I'm calling shenanigans.
