i won't be here that long. my friend who was showing us around last night will be one of the camera men for that event. He is going to be one of 250 plus (that number is kinda amazing to me). When the steady cam goes by the runners before they bolt (not showing favoritism there), that'll be him. i asked him to take me to werk tomorrow so i could check out their set up, nope. Too much security to get around.

Pictures later. Of course everyone else who thought it was a pain to bring their lap tops (and toothpaste and eye drops and whatever) sure love to use mine. Uploading has fallen behind.

Amsterdam is a big fucking party primarily designed with the male idea in mind. It's a much cooler Vegas with less gambling and more of the other sins. i am tempted to abandon my traveling partners and get on a train back there before i go home.

The cafes are nice and when they become a part of the culture in CA legit, count me in as a regular.

No offense, Mike, but The Doors is one of the shittiest shops in Amsterdam. If you head back out there, check out The Noon (Blueberry! mmmmm), Amnesia (it's in Jordaan, on Keizergracht, I think), or Abraxas (it's in an alley just east of Nieuwzijds Voorburgwal about a block south of Paleisstraat). Abraxas has the best edibles in the city, hands down, and it's a cool three-level shop with tons of comfy seating and yummy hash mocachinos.

Van Gogh Museum is incredible. I appreciate that the collection represents his entire artistic career and not just the "crazy years" at the end. Very interesting progression of style, specifically his use of color and, of course, the unique style.

Bengals are craaaaaaazy

we used to have one that lived at my parents' shop and it would literally hunt me. it would sit on the top of a fridge and wait for me to come into the back kitchen and leap onto me face. He also used to dive out of shelves and attack my legs all the time

he become hooked to my dad though, he would carry the cat around like it was a toddler and the cat would hug his arms around my dad's neck

I don't see why you need to associate poor musical choices with homosexuality. It's really offensive, Randy and in these difficult times with socialist death squads and Arab Muslim American presidents, we can't afford to act divisively. I'm sorry, but I fail to see the correlation between violating good taste and violating the Buggery Acts. I mean, what if someone posted his photos from a Smash Mouth concert and I were to associate his tone deafness with premature greyness and a general aura of sexual ambiguity? Just wouldn't be right.

Looks like you've been loosing weight. Great area to start picking up weight.

i'm pretty sure i lost about 7 pounds. When i go out exploring to take pictures and such, it's walk, walk, walk, walk.... Pretty equivalent or exceeding the typical Coachella day for a couple of weeks. i need to keep that up at home.

Last night was such a success. The Coachella group owned the dance floor. We gave our gifts to the band, threw glowsticks in the air, blew bubbles all over the Troubadour, removed articles of clothing, sweat dripping from every place imaginable. Brandon's shirt would have come off yet again if it had a few extra buttons. Met Stefinitely Maybe. Lizzie put the mask I gave her on the microphone the entire set, and afterwards we let her feel the ballz!!!

A Close Call Already for Embedded Journalism Students in Iraq

By E&P Staff

Published: August 05, 2009 1:19 PM ET

NEW YORK Late last week, University of Alaska Fairbanks Journalism professor Brian O'Donoghue and three students, Jennifer Canfield, Jessica Hoffman, and Tom Hewitt arrived in Iraq to begin a month-long stay with U.S. troops in Iraq's Diyala Province. It didn't take long for the danger of the situation to present itself.

"While on our way to get our credentials at the Combined Press Information Center (CPIC) in the Green Zone [Sunday], our convoy came within a few minutes of being hit by an IED, which made the situation getting into the Green Zone a bit tricky due to fears of another attack," Hewitt wrote Tuesday on the group's blog, Short Timers.

However, the group was able to make its way out of Baghdad by helicopter Sunday night, and land at Forward Operating Base Warhorse in Diyala Province.

"Since Monday morning," Hewitt wrote on Short Timers, "we’ve been getting our feet back under us, and we're getting to work on our real mission: getting some stories produced."

Hewitt described the IED near-miss in detail on the blog in a post titled "Wake-Up Call":

"Just outside the entrance to the Green Zone, the convoy rolled to a halt. No one seemed to understand what was going on, and apprehension filled the air inside the vehicle. The turret gunner swiveled back and forth, anticipating a possible attack from an uncertain direction.

"After a few minutes, the gunner knelt down and passed on what she had heard over the radio: An IED had exploded on our route minutes before we arrived, and the Iraqi Army was locking down the Green Zone ... We were turning around and heading back to the airport immediately, presumably to avoid being sitting ducks for a second attack."

And I hope that the new soldiers with the 3/2 SBCT coming into Warhorse now work to help the Iraqis of Diyala Province - it's going to take a lot of work by all involved to return the area to its former prosperity.
