View Full Version : Interpol's Best Songs

Gonna start this topic so that the Greatest Songs topic doesn't turn into an Interpol debate.

But, Boourns, PDA in the top 5... Seriously? That's one of the songs I grew tired of the quickest off of TOTBL. Obstacle 2 is a far superior song.

Especially when Paul belts out "THIS IS MY, MY HUNGRY TIME." How can you NOT consider it one of the 5 best because, when he sings that, I FEEL it. When he drones on about 200 beds... I just don't.

"Cause friends don't waste wine when there's words to sell" <--- probably one of the best Interpol song lyrics that Paul's written.

Not the song's fault it was the one that got played on the radio.

Obstacle 2 is great, yes.

Boourns

Actually, I was just listening, and yeah, Obstacle 2 is better. Slightly.

I'm still pissed that they refused to play that or Specialist.

LOL.

So much for a discussion, aye?

Scratch that: Why no love for C'Mere?

Boourns

Because it's mediocre, like most of Antics and Our Love to Admire.

Did you guys like their set at Coach '07? I was pretty exhausted at that time last year, but their set still seemed like a bit of a yawner. Was that an accurate representation of their live energy, or lack thereof?

PassiveTheory

Ouch. I actually find it really hard to say whether TOTBL or Antics is better... I think it came down to literally pitting the songs against each other. TOTBL is adored by indie fans, but I think the last 3 songs are not as good as a couple songs on Antics. Plus, Antics is the Interpol album that introduced me to the band.

And I skipped Interpol's 07 set because I guessed (correctly) that they would end up playing San Diego sometime soon (Independence Jam one month later) and wanted to see Faithless, who were the best performance that weekend.

The Indy Jam show was good, and would have been better if I wasn't dealing with a lot of personal shit that night, though.

I made the mistake of seeing Interpol instead of seeing Faithless or Sonic Youth because I wanted to get a decent spot for Bjork. I got said spot, but I couldn't see anything because of all the horrible, obnoxious fans, so I gave up and half-passed out on the grass in the back watching the sky.

TOTBL=fucking brilliant

Antics and our love to admire didn't have that unique sound TOTBL had... Kinda shitty really, but I still would pay to see them live (already have twice...once at coachella and another at the bill graham)

5 Best Interpol songs: Untitled, NYC, Hands Away, Stella, Take You on a Cruise. Notice the lack of Our Love to Admire songs. Not an accident. It is really interesting to me that the best song on the entire CD was only available via pre-order through iTunes.

Untitled is the best Interpol song, hands down.

Untitled is the best Interpol song, hands down.

I do not know how this statement can be argued.

PassiveTheory

I'm glad that Stella seems to be unanimous among most of our lists, I wish I could see that song done live. Actually, come to think of it, I don't know if I actually have or haven't.

Narc
Take You on a Cruise
No I in Threesome
NYC
C'mere

Ivy- The new is in my top ten, as long as we cut out the last minute or two of the song. Ur hot. :P

Damn Garrett, no love for TOTBL besides NYC?

I've been listening to TOTBL a LOT lately, and really love it, but NYC really stands out to me every single time, where the other songs on the album really flow as a great album rather than singular moments. Plus, the names of the songs don't mean a lot to me right now as much as antics. If i could cut off the long solo on 'the new' it would definitely be in my top 5...

The best Interpol song is "Love Will Fucking Tear You Apart"

hotness aside, the last minute or two of the song is bomb. i love the solo. it sounds so evil and wrong. it completes the new in my opinion :)

The best Interpol song is "Love Will Fucking Tear You Apart"

is this an actual song? and if so, does paul banks do the ian curtis dance while he sings it?! why on earth would you name a song that after joy division; especially when you're already kind of similar to them. WHY?!

TOTBL is definitely the best album, but I'm kind of surprised by the lack of mentioning the big songs on Antics (not slow hands) that make it at least competitive with the first album

NYC
Untitled
Not Even Jail
Stella
Evil

Boourns was making an She Wants Revenge/Interpol/Joy Division joke. Because all those bands sound similar. Get it?

Surprise sometimes will come around.

the first time I saw them was in a small club, a renovated church in Rochester NY and there were two songs that the crowd sang every single word of.

Stella and Evil

Oh what a surprise I'm gone for a week and Passive has already made another pointless thread. You would think with that watermelon of a head you have you'd be able to make something entertaining, amusing or even insightful. So you have an opinion who the fuck cares you don't need to make a new thread every time you get bored and a song is stuck in your head.

There was a discussion going on in the Greatest Songs topic and I didn't feel like hijacking it, so I started this.

I think someone's just pissed that he was gone a week and no one gave a fucking shit so he had to rain on someone else's parade. Mind leaving for another week?

Yes Paul speaks Spanish. He should teach Carlos to speak it also so his Colombian side could shine.
