This is pretty harsh, but I never liked Black Kids very much, and pitchfork probably shouldn't have saddled the world with them, I mean, it was just an EP. So in a weird way this almost feels like damage control. Still, I feel sorry for them. On the other hand, lol.

Yeah. You know, I liked the 4 song EP a little bit. The re-recording of their single is pretty bad.

I should have seen Les Savy Fav instead... Heard they ruled.

No wait, I just looked up the set times. I watched fucking BATTLES tear up the place and then went to VIP to cool off.

The guy's great and he wrote an awesome Pitchfork review... BUT it was Bryan who told me, while we were discussing the initial poster release sometime in January, that it was good that GV snagged Black Kids because they'll become as big as the Arcade Fire...

...So I decided to check them out.

Also, again, I LIKED the 4 song EP, but like Matt was saying, the best part about it was how low-fi it was.

This is a case of a producer fucking ruining a record. The re-recorded single sounds AWFUL whenever I see on rotation on mtvU (which is about 12 times a day... it wouldn't hurt them to change things up for once... sheesh).

OT, but has anyone checked out The Virgins' record? Holy crap...I HATE the way it's produced. I liked "Rich Girl" when I heard it sometime last year, and now it's been buffed and shined into suckitude. They were a poor man's Strokes, and now they sound like freakin' Rooney.

I liked the Black Kids EP...now I'll have to check out the record to see just how bad it sounds. I'm a glutton for punishment, what can I say.

I love it, you all roll over to this review without even hearing the album. lol. hipsters fail.

Dandy Warhols Welcome to Monkey House also got a 3.3, they just left the clever little dog pic out of that review.

Ben folds five - messner also got this rating and that's a decent album as well. Pitchfork is silly.

Oh, no worries. I was just finding the reaction more amusing than the puppy picture. The puppies are cute though. My favorite pitchfork review was of Jet - Get Born. It was spot on and funny. However I already heard the album and it didn't stop me from enjoying it.

Yes, exactly. It feels more like atonement than an actual review. All is right with the world now, kind of.

EDIT: Ah man, what? The rating rose up to a 3.3. If you're going to be a smarmy asshole about the whole thing, you might as well have the balls to go all the way. Weak.

EDIT REDUX: Apparently the 0.0 was a technical glitch. The funniest technical glitch of all time.

it has fun dance songs, but the heavy synths and other noises try to make each song sound like a party anthem. on first listen, it gives me the impression that they would be as bad as everyone makes them out to be live.

There really are a lot worse albums out there. It's obvious you hate it but you need to be reminded that music is subjective apparently since you are so shocked by a couple people who like it. I haven't heard the album. I heard Wizard of Aaahs and saw them at Coachella and they certainly weren't as bad as you and Pitchfork seem to think.

It would be better if they did this more often. Review an EP and rave about it and then when the full leanght is released or in retrospect change their minds. A 3.3 isn't even that low. The picture instead of the review is the comedy of it obviously but "Does it Offend You Yea" is considered even worse with a 2.3 rating. There are actually plenty of albums out there that got rated much worse than this one.

Sure it is but there are albums that got 3's that I like so that's why I laugh when people revel in Pitchfork reviews. I personally can't stand most of their writing, every now and again they write something enjoyable to read like the jet "get born" review. That was classic. I liked that album but they found an original way to make fun of it and give it a bad review.

Yeah I don't always agree with them (Travistan did not fucking deserve a 0.0, I would even argue that no album actually does, but whatever), but I never got the whole Black Kids thing, so I thought this was amusing.

I just wonder how many people were singing their praises until they read the review today and jumped ship. lol.

thestripe, no it was a review where the guy pretended he was at the jet concert backstage and the band was saying lets give them some Iggy Pop then busting into "are you gonna be my girl" then said oh now lets play some AC/DC and then busting into something else. They named 3 or 4 bands and the riffs were quite obviously from those songs or awfully close. It basically made fun of them as being a cover band.
