The beginning discussion of a day where people from this board end up at Disneyland on the same day happened in a Tiki Room thread (http://coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21170&highlight=ivankay). A Sunday in October appears to be a winning choice, but it's not up to me. i guess it will be determined by when the most people can go. Of course on a day like this, the expectation to be joined at the hip throughout the day is ridiculous; but there should be a couple of meeting points at scheduled times in the day where meetings and picture taking can take place.

i am going to suggest October 5th. Why? It would cap off an insane week of Sigur Ros, My Bloody Valentine, and Detour. James is playing at the House of Blues Anaheim that night.

Disneyland hasn't posted their hours for October yet, but it more than likely will be a 9AM to 11PM thing.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Commitments?

Well, at least we could get you there.

Other than the crowd factor, i have no problem combining days.

One thing I should tell you is that Arizona schools have their fall break the first and second weeks of October. It might be kinda busy; it was the last time I thought to go to Disney during fall break.

In anycase, any weekend is good for me in October since my trip to Europe was cancelled.

i was looking through the Gay Days website. They offer discounted tickets. A park hopper would cost 81 through the site as opposed to 91 at the park. They have some other nice deals too for single park ($56) and twilight ($35..after 4PM) tickets.

Not sure. The only limitations i casually noticed were the days you could use the tickets (October 14th was the last day) and last day you could buy them (9/29).

Are you required to wear rainbow attire?

Well, most LGBT folk wear red shirts, and attend Saturday rather than Sunday. It's funny when straight people wear red too - they seem somewhat anxious. More straights than gays attend, as it's not an official gay event.

I thought disney was homophobic.

They were one of the corporations to offer domestic partner benefits early on i think. Although more than a few villains in the movies appear to be gay (suggesting it's evil to be gay) by displaying some of the stereotypical traits.

i remember attending in 06. well, i didn't attend, but my brother and i were there, in red. my sister pointed out to us that everyone was wearing red. it was a funny afternoon. we giggled like 9 year olds.

Wish I could make this.

Don't choose a date until you know if the fireworks are playing, and make sure they're called "Remember" and not the Christmas ones. Seriously, I'm a big Disneyland fan and trust me when I say you need to go on a night when the fireworks are playing. A Sunday is probably good but double check, yeah?

ivankay
07-15-2008, 08:12 PM
If the park is closing at 11 (won't know until they post the times for October), good chance of the night sky being lit up. If James is going on at the HOB (http://store.hob.com/eventdetail.aspx?event_id=53723)around 10, it would be a great way to enter the show.

Remember, Oct 5 is a Sunday (not a Saturday)

Yes. The original intent of a Sunday was for a less crowded day of the weekend; and Detour is on that Saturday....if the 5th is the day.

When i was about 14 or 15, i was about to go in the main gate when security stopped me and said "You can't go in with that shirt."

"How come?"

"We put on the show here, not you."

"How am I putting on a show?"

"Your shirt is offensive. You can't wear that in the park."

"How is this offensive?" pointing to my CircleJerks shirt.

"Circle Jerk is offensive."

"What's a CircleJerk? I don't know what a CircleJerk is. Can you explain it to me?"

He said i could turn the shirt inside out if i wanted to go in. i did. But like a smart ass kid, disrespected the agreement and turned it right side out after i got in.

he wasn't there the day it opened, but had been in 1955. we went for the 50th anniversary as a family in 2005. we went to see the "50 magical years" movie and there was a guestbook you could sign. it asked for the first year you visited. someone had written "1955 as a kid" and so my dad wrote below "1955 and still am a kid" :)

it's more fun when you're the only crazy one, they suspect nothing, trust me. one of the best days of my life was candy flipping at disneyland. the best is if you can go with someone handicapped, cause then you don't wait in line. my boyfriend at the time had a cane and someone came up to us in splash mountain to let us know we didn't have to wait in any lines. that made the whole experience a LOT more fun :)

To be figured out. More than likely a few meeting places throughout the day.
Example: 2PM Front of the Castle for meet and group shot
6PM Tiki Room for group Tiki Room into group Jungle Cruise
9:15 Hub for fireworks

Maybe someplace in CA Adventure for beer or wine.

Something like that.

i would like to recommend a group Jungle Cruise with the intention of laughing extraordinarily hard at all the jokes.

YES!

though i doubt we'll actually be able to meet for fireworks. that place is insane at that time.

and i love the jungle cruise jokes. i go once during the day and once at night if i can to catch the joke changes :) if enough of us get on a boat, maybe we'll be lucky to get one of the cruise directors who does the "dirty" version i've only heard of.

YES!

though i doubt we'll actually be able to meet for fireworks. that place is insane at that time.

and i love the jungle cruise jokes. i go once during the day and once at night if i can to catch the joke changes :) if enough of us get on a boat, maybe we'll be lucky to get one of the cruise directors who does the "dirty" version i've only heard of.

I thought they fired all the tour guides that made fun of the ride and they went back to the old scripts?? I am probably wrong though

i go every year, but have yet to get the "fun" tour. i did get hit on by a ride operator on the indiana jones ride last year which was a bit creepy since he kept up the whole "dr. jones" persona and made some crack about an examination. i dunno, i just don't like that type of stuff at disneyland... ya know, for kids!

I knew this evil whore once who had an amusing line in a conversation we had while she was on mushrooms at DisneyWorld.

ME: You're tripping in DisneyWorld, what's the worst that could happen?
HER: Well, I could get gangbanged.
ME: Gangbanged by Disney characters though, that could be pretty sweet.
HER: NO! That would be horrible! I could never go back to DisneyLand again without getting incredibly horny.

Or line games. One i hate and love is a 6 degrees type game where 2 people have to think of any actor or actress, on the count of 3, say them at the same time and then try to connect the two in the least amount of movies or the fastest. Example:

"....three."

"Charlton Heston" "Angelina Jolie"

Then the group grumbles for a while. People say a lot of "wait, wait, i think i got it.....no"

Then someone at some point says "i got it! Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman are in "Wanted", Morgan Freeman and Dan Aykroyd are in "Driving Miss Daisy", Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis are in "Trading Places" and Jamie Lee Curtis and Charlton Heston are in "True Lies"."

That person wins the satisfaction of knowing they did it first. It usually inspires a shorter route from someone else and they derive pride in knowing they did it more efficiently.

If the two thespians mentioned have been in the same movie, go to a new couple of actors.

No props for "that guy that was in that one movie..."

As far as i know, i made up this game in the late 80's.

My friends and I used to have specific line games for all the major rides. I think for Space Mountain we did "if you had a million dollars..." (kind of dumb, but whatever). We used to bring cards and play poker for change on the Indiana Jones ride, and I think we played hand clapping games before the Matterhorn. Those were the days.

I haven't been to Disneyland in ages, like since 1992. Don't know that I would even necessarily be cool with going, what with the crowds and all, if I wasn't being volunteered into the trip. Maybe going on drugs is the way to make it all right.

It's not crowded on a Sunday in October, really. Besides, you don't have to go if you don't want to.

Fantasmic is a night time show they have on the Rivers of America that happens to be pretty fantastic. Basically it's a parade of Disney heros and villains for about 20 minutes with big water screens, projections, fire, fireworks, music and people in costumes. The concept is a trip through Mickey's imagination and how it can get away from him (the Fantasia part is the best).

I <3 Mr. Toad's.

I'm a bit worried that my 3 year old might be scared.

we figured the same with our daughter. we made our first trip to the land with her before last christmas, before she was 2, and went on a ton of stuff, none of which scared her. she was fine on pirates, haunted mansion, toad's, snow white, dumbo, nemo, small world(that scares me), etc. we go every few weeks now with our passes. the one ride she has refused to get on, though, has been peter pan. i think it's because the carousel is right next to it and she couldn't take her eyes off of it. we finally got her on it and she was fine, though. the look on her face after the roger rabbit ride was pretty funny, too. had no idea what to make of that craziness!

our neighbors have a son who is 6 months older than our kid and he is afraid of every damn ride at the park, so sad.

one other great thing is i can get the handicapped pass so i get to bypass a majority of the lines, we are all about going in the back door :) (that doesn't sound right, either)

I'd argue the Happiest Place on Earth motto, but I'm certain with repetition, the kids get used to the whole ride thing. My niece was like that at the beginning and after going a gazillion times, she is unafraid of the bigger rides. Though she likes the violence of the Buzz Lightyear ride and the Hunter S Thompsonesque qualities of the Toon Town ride.

we should set up a few carpools as well. kali, you will be destroyed going to Love Fest, driving 8 hours and then spending the day in Disneyland.

Would be a hell of a weekend though! get some of those giant cans of Monster and join us

Do you guys have an official list of who is going so far? If this goes through we definitely would be meeting at the entrance right?

As the big group, nah. Entrance meeting would mean a lot of waiting and no exploring the parks. Individual meetings can happen any ol' way you want. Strategically, a 1PM to 2PM first meet as a group could be cool, but you got me thinking of those who want to do it hardcore and get there right when D-land opens. A breakfast meet for Mickey Pancakes at the River Belle Terrace could be the first official pre-meet. i doubt personally i would make that, but you never know.

sooo,

8:30 - 9AM try to be at the River Belle Terrace for pancakes that look like Mickey's noggin.

Although if you are a rare visitor to the Magic Kingdom, i might recommend just going on the busiest rides right as you get in instead. If you want to do it in the general area of the River Belle...Pirates, Indiana Jones, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder, or Haunted Mansion might be your early morning fare. Just to be efficient, i would run and get a fast pass for one of those first and get on another ride.

1-1:30 Sleeping Beauty Castle for the first Big Meet. We could meander and say "Howdy Do". Then at 1:25PM, dominate the front of the Castle for a quick group shot. Once that be done, away with y'all, together or not.

Next meet has got to be the group Tiki Room / Jungle Cruise. Time should be around 5-6PM.

Consider this a rough draft.

To add to kids getting scared stories:

i went with my niece recently. She was around 2 1/2 and a few nights before watched Monsters Inc. So i thought she would enjoy going on the ride. One minute into it i look over and see this little girl covering her eyes. Feeling crummy at the end, i say "i thought you liked Monsters."

"On TV!"

She's the best.

I got soaked pretty much head to toe (wallet, shoes and all) last time I rode on splash mountain. Not the best ride to go on early in the day, unless you wanna walk around wet for the next 2 hours.

Monsters is in CA Adventure. It's not the greatest ride, but you never have to wait to get on. The ride it used to be before the conversion to Monsters was probably the worst ride in history, The Superstar Limo Ride....man, that sucked. Monsters improved on it, but had to deal with the limitations of the structure.

Okay so from what you are all posting I am imagining a group of maybe like 15-20? I can get to D-Land right when it opens because I live so close and my mom taught me how to navigate all the theme parks since birth. Hopefully by midday we have the whole gang together?

p.s. Never going on Splash Mountain is a crime!

Yes. It also serves as home for some omnipresent and overly-sedated bears and forest creatures. Fun ride if you can void being doused by water early on. I recommend it during the hottest point of the day and then by the tailend of the day, you'll be back to dryness.

HAHA that made me laugh. Leo I am a little worried you did not know it was the "one with the logs" for sure. My favorite part is when it turns into a coaster for like two bumps. It's scary though when all the forest creatures are singing sad songs and have no food. I don't like that part very much.

Izzy tricks me like this too. We start something whether it's a movie or a ride and she's so excited, then without warning she's terrified and crying. It's not a loud cry, but more of a whimper and it makes me feel so guilty. She's quite adept at pulling my heart strings.

Grab a fast pass for Space Mountain as soon as you enter (early) and then book over to the Indiana Jones ride, or something on your far left. People tend to start in Tomorrowland or Fantasyland first, so lines are not as long in Frontierland or Adventureland (or whatever those are called).

Tomorrowland, to this day, disappoints me. Where the fuck are the flying cars, man? I still get a kick out of the Star Tours thing. Have they updated that ride yet? I remember the days when they had that awesome techno beat for Space Mountain and all the freaky tales on the People Mover.

Hey Algunz, remember when they had the panning for gold spot? I always thought that was a great window into the greed of average joes. They would always expect to somehow find some gold pieces that were worthwhile of their effort. Sadly, they would fail and get a few pieces of gold dust flake and be on their way. Silly humans.

The only thing that used to seperate Knott's from anywhere else was the fried chicken dinner crap they used to serve at their restaurant. Or, their funnel cakes until everyone started having their on rendition of the epicurial delight.

That is, until you could eat there and then it is a win. Well, at least as Disneyland fare goes.

People rave about those chicken boxes. The food is bland and bready at best. Never had a bad meal at Blue Bayou. Yeah, kind of bourgie, but after walking around the heat all day and standing in line, a nice hot meal in that cool restaurant pumps me back up.
