yes! good to see dungen fans.
their 06 set made my festival. sure daft punk was one of the best things i'd ever see, but dungen just took me to another dimension.

Tio Bitar is pretty heavy, but i think Ta Det Lugnt is just more trippy.

point is: Dungen 09! outdoor theatre at night!

I get you on the foot note. Its hard to rank em because all the albums are so fucking good and if ones ahead of the other its not by a lot. i mean how many songs out there has a guitar solo like Ball and Biscuit???? That song alone puts Elephant up there. Then you put in songs in that album like I wanna be the boy, Seven Nation, The hardest button, Black Math. i see 5 and 6 like that too. Very solid albums. ............ FUCK!!! i gotta see them live!!! i had tix to see them in l.a. before they cancelled.

i wanna be the boy is such a beautiful song, simple in its meaning but oh so relatable, and i've always had a soft spot for the solo in that song. fuck yeah B&B rules hard, dude, every song on that album is PERFECTION, their masterpiece indeed.

I wanna be the boy is such a awesome song. I does have so much meaning. That blues style solo he does for that song gets me every time. My favorite performance of that song was the one he did in Sydney. Not to mention I Just Dont Know What To Do With Myself. They did an awesome job with that. Elephant gots the right blend and balance.

Na man and thats where ive made the mistake of my life. something always gets in the way. I was set to see them this most recent time but the canceled. I was so bummed out because not only did they cancel but i was afraid one of my favorite bands might have broken up. I hoping they play Friday for Coachella. Nothing would get my weekend started like watching them.

i was a huge fanboy of the stripes in high school and am still loyal to Jack. seen them twice on the GBMS tour. two and a half hours of some badass noise.
to add my list:
1- Elephant (perfection, indeed)
2- GBMS
White Blood Cells (two eclectic albums)
3 - De Stijl - has its own . . . well, style.
4- Icky Thump
The White Stripes

my fav song from elephant is You Got Her in Your Pocket. so beautiful and stripped down.

although, i must admit, on another thread i said the only stripes album "i'd have on a deserted island" is White Blood Cells. that's because it has more songs on it. little room is a must.

blue mamba, when i saw them at bonnaroo last year (my 1st time!!), my life was changed forever, the most intense 90 minutes, and still beats portishead and prince as my top show. i said somwhere else that when they do im slowly turning into you, you're gunna totally piss your pants, i'm going to nonstop pray to have them for coach next year, we'll have a massive messageboard meetup

well it was a solid 90 minutes, and i've NEVER seen JW like that before, he's now fully 100% aware of how awesome he is, he was battling with brendan, he would get flustered and pout and stomp his foot, he was tweaking so hard, one eye would blink before the other, the last song they played before the break before the encore he went nuts and threw his guitar and fucked with an amp and and left the stage in a huff very much like Prince. total fucking rockstar. they did store bought bones, but like an 8 minute version, so fucking intense. did i mention i pissed my pants??

its no contest by the way, COTL is a major step up, and i loved BBS

It was during Blue Veins, right before he trashed the guitar and stormed off. He couldn't get the mic on his guitar to work, so he trashed that, yelled, and ran back to the distorted mic on his amp. well I was referring to the Racs' set at Bonnaroo.

But I DID shroom for the stripes at the Roo last year too. how was it?? I think you know how it went.

everything was red, the set, the amps, the piano, his clothes, omg so much red...THE RED, i remember that show in big bright flashes of RED. it was a sunset show too, once it was nighttime, it was a fuckign free for all, and for 7NA they used strobe lights that I swear gave me a seizure, i was staring at them for one of the solos before i realized, HEY! jack white is ripping it onstage!

Every Radiohead album has a couple tracks on it I just don't care about or actually find a little annoying. But Kid A changed the landscape of music in a really interesting way for me and a lot of people I think. It kinda marks the point at which rock music and electronic music started to truly converge in the popular eye.

When OK Computer came out it sounded like someone had finally inherited The Beatles throne. But when Kid A came out it sounded unlike anything I'd ever heard before. That's fucking rare. And seeing how it's become the turning point of Radiohead's evolution as a band--going from a relatively straight-forward rock act into this trendsetting monster they are now, I figure it gets the No. 1 spot.

I don't know how you can possibly think that, but okay.

Well, the Bends is a pretty straight forward album. Obviously is it a Radiohead album, so they do experiment on it... but very minimally compared to their work to come. Then OK Computer came out and BAM. Tracks like Airbag, Exit Music and Subteranean would not have fit on The Bends. Most tracks on OK wouldn't. After followed Kid A, which definately defined Radiohead as a different class of band. However, in my opinion, the experimental leap between OK Computer and Kid A, is not as great as the leap between The Bends and OK Computer.

RotationSlimWang

So you think a little change in pacing outweighs transforming from a standard rock band into an electronic-rock hybrid?

rage patton
07-17-2008, 10:41 AM
I think the difference between The Bends and OK is a lot more than a little change in pacing. Their step towards OK Computer cemented their path and was the road to Kid A. After the Bends, I think Radiohead could have gone another way and become a Brit Pop band like Oasis, Pulp and The Verve. Personally, I enjoy The Bends more so than any of those artists work, but it wouldnt have been to much of a stretch of the imagination to see them going down a different path.

07-17-2008, 11:10 AM
if you listen to OK Computer really closely on headphones you can kind of hear the precursors of Kid A in some subtle electronic experimentation, but when it comes down to it the greatness of Kid A complements the greatness of OK Computer and they pretty much sum up all of their guitar-driven that came before Kid A music with Optimistic... so I will always pick Kid A over OK even though some of my favorite Radiohead songs are on OK.

I agree. Too bad they couldn't stay at that level though unlike those acts. The difference is those groups could fill an album from top to bottom with "Karma Police".

Pretty overblown. I can think of a few bands that took the Beatles throne like Zep, The Stones, Floyd and U2. All of those bands had far more impact than Radiohead, and they've influenced better bands.

If you were even remotely familiar with electronic music or much of rock history in 2000, Kid A would not be something "completely new". What makes it a very good record is how well it's done. There's nothing on it that hasn't been done before.

decaf iced coffee all around! (i take my iced latte full of caffeine and sweetner though)

Yeah. I know they wouldn't sound the same. It's a weird concept to consider but I just can't help but think that he has something to do with her anxiety issues.

One more cup and I'm done. I'll buy tomorrow.

I may have to agree with you, that sounds entirely possible but who knows? I think its agreed upon that their relationship is complicated to say the least, they used to be MARRIED for Pete's sake, so nothing is that black & white. For all we know, she causes him anxiety, he's just able to deal with it (see The Raconteurs' song "Top Yourself")

I cant believe the idea of JW being replaced was even brought up. HE CANNOT BE REPLACED!!! As for Meg.... Well she really did a lot of fans dirty when she canceled the tour. I hope she gets her shit together next time.

Treefingers throws me off of Kid A. However, due to the National Anthem being so fucking awesome, I tend to forget about that song.

you have to look at it in the context of the entire album appreciate it.

every thread on this board that survives long enough becomes a radiohead discussion.

it's better off that way.

My God, the National Anthem is good. Seriously, whenever the brass section kicks into that song, I get the chills.

The intro buildup is very similar to this piece from 1968, with that cool bass thumping and swirling atmospherics:

Definitely one to check out if you like National Anthem.

That reminds me.. I finally got around to listening to that Nirvana band. They're pretty okay.

Have any of you guys heard of The Beatles? They're kind of old.. but not bad. Pretty good stuff.

But seriously Mamba, how have you never heard Ok Computer?

And why is it that your favorite Floyd album is Animals, yet you have Syd as your avatar? Is the avatar an attempt to build street-cred even though it's clear your musical horizons are rather narrow?

Fucking what??........

Ok first off.... i ask myself the same question too about Radiohead. To be honest, i just never really got around to checking them out. I dont know why. They were just that one band that i just never checked out. Weird.

Second...... What the fuck does my avatar have anything to do with my favorite album?? ohh, i didnt know i had to have a flying pig as my avatar since Animals is my favorite Floyd album. Your an idiot. Please explain to me how having Syd as my avatar is suppose to have anything to do with my favorite PF album.

So since i have Syd as my avi then now im trying to build "street-cred"?? You have to be joking. Everybody who knows Pink Floyd knows Syd Barrett. Theres nothing special about that.
