View Full Version : Bridge School Benefit, happening this year?

So this will be the 22nd annual Bridge School Benefit if it happens this year
Has anybody heard about this year's bridge school concert?
(it happens every year at the shoreline amp in mountain view, CA)
went last year and it was a pretty good show,
(Metallica, Tom Waits, Neil Young, John Mayer, Regina Spektor and a few others played)
they always have pretty solid headliners and performers
But will it even go on this year now that vegoose has been canceled? (They usually happen on the same weekend)

So why does Vegoose impact Bridge School now?

didn't say vegoose impacted bridge school, just that they usually happen around the same time or same weekend.

That makes me think that you are equating Bridge's livelihood to Vegoose.

There is no reason to think that Bridge won't be happening. It has been going on for 22 years now. There never was much in common between the two, so I am sure Vegoose's disappearance will not have any impact on what Bridge ultimately decides to do. Information about Bridge School performers usually is released a couple of months out.

I'm pretty sure he meant that since Vegoose isn't happening he might go to Bridge School over that weekend....

As for the show, it's going to happen and Neil Young will be there (he organizes the whole thing)...

As for the rest, we will probably know soon enough.

Trent Reznor played, not NIN, NIN is that when its an entire live band as an entity. And he had Kronos quartet with him actually.

How long does each act usually get?
30-45 minutes. Then the last 2 or 3 acts grow from there. The headliners usually get ~60 minutes depending on their caliber. Paul McCartney played about 13 songs.

My guesses for this year:
Rage Against the Machine (Would be EXTREMELY cool if they did this acoustic)
Pearl Jam
Smashing Pumpkins
Dave Matthews
Neil Young (Obviously)
Rilo Kiley? (Or jenny lewis)
Nicole Atkins
Some Punk Rock Band
Some Old Guy Legend who will jam with Neil (Maybe Bruce?)

well it looks like the bridge school benefit is happening Oct 25. & 26, from the look's of Neil's Tour. And It deff looks like Death Cab for Cutie will be there too, any chance of Wilco?
Also, I'm betting there will be 3 or 4 of these bands playing it:
Dates Announced! Oct 25 & 26.
Where: Shoreline Amp.
Confirmed So far: None
Rumored:
Rage Against the Machine
Pearl Jam
Jane's Addiction
Foo Fighters
Nine Inch Nails
Brian Wilson
and something super poppy? Avril Lavigne maybe?

So I got back a little while ago. They basically had every single band my group wanted to see (Cat Power, Wilco, DCfC, and the Pumpkins) go from the start, so we didn't stay for the full Neil Young set (mainly because we didnt want to sit through Norah Jones, Jack Johnson and Josh Groban).

Review:

Okay the seating in the lawn section of the ampitheatre was pretty decent. There was this hilariously stoned/drunk dude sitting in front of us who took pictures with us, it was fun. There were a couple of douchebags standing up at the rail who blocked the view of the screen for a while... Fuck those guys.

Anyway:

Cat Power - Sorta tedious and boring. Did some covers, I think one original song, nothing I recognized. The Dirty Delta Blues band was good enough to keep me listening. It was hilarious when they showed her singing while walking up the steps and showed all the empty seats, lol.

Wilco - Fucking brilliant. If I was a bigger Wilco fan I'd have a perfect setlist, but they started off with two songs I didn't recognize, a brand new song, then did Heavy Metal Drummer acoustically, and I'm The Man Who Loves You, before finishing with I Shall Be Released with Neil and his wife coming out to sing. Tweedy's in-between-songs banter was funny and I really want to see them live and on their own again.

Death Cab for Cutie - Stole the show for me. I'm really kicking myself for missing their OAT show last year because the setlist was good, and for an 7 song accoustic set they did damn good. Kicked it off with Photobooth, then Crooked Teeth, Cath..., and an awesome version of 405. They ended the set by playing I Will Follow You Into The Dark, Soul Meets Body, and a short version of I Will Possess Your Heart. Damn good set, no idiot bantering, good music, good vocals. Awesome job, DCfC, but next time... How about a little Trans in the set list? Please?

Smashing Pumpkins - Fucking. Awful.

I am not paying a goddamn cent to see Billy Corgan's fucking inflated bald ass head EVER again. Even if goddamn trance DJs are playing in the Sahara during their main stage show at Coachella in the future, I would rather see that.

4 absolutely unidentifiable songs. Corgan's vocals were muddy in the mix, and for some reason he decided to play the goddamn harmonica. And I mean... I was hoping for just one song I KNOW, not even a single, just something off of MCATIS or Gish or Siamese Dream for fuck sake!

And he did.

By inviting Josh fucking Groban on stage.

To butcher Disarm.

I wanted to cry. It was that bad.

FUCK YOU JOSH GROBAN, FUCK YOU BILLY CORGAN.

Overall: B-

Maybe next year if they have the egominded huge pop stars NOT take up the entire nighttime half of the bill, I will go, but as for now?... No.

No. I think I got the setlist right in my initial post. I'd definitely know if they played a track with a title like that, that I've never heard of.

I think for that you'd have to catch their headlining tour.

Methinks it's time for a Death Cab thread.
