They were fucking awesome at coachella and even better in a small venue! They're totally worth seeing on their current tour.... "the joy and misery!!!!!..."

Very good indeed. First chance Ive actually had to see them live. They did play at an insanely hot part of the day though....

On our way toward Cold War Kids, everyone either coming or going was singing along. I love that.

And I've seen them live before, they are definitely good live.
And at Coachella, it was hot.. but not that bad.. It was actually really nice to lie in the grass for their show.

I heard so many positive things about this band live, but they couldn't live up to the hype.

That is the problem with gossip/rumors/hype.

Yeah, I saw them at Sasquatch... and I didn't enjoy them at all.

But now its just disturbing.

Have you seen Msparks new avatar? It make the situation funny again.

Not to change the subject... Avett Brothers at the Zoo? Where? In Seattle?

clumsy342
07-09-2008, 01:54 PM
In Portland. Its on their website.
But I think its like $17 or something. Don't know if I'd be willing to pay that.
we'll see when the time comes.

The Avett Brothers are incredible live. They have such a huge sound, and they rock the banjo harder than I ever thought possible. I saw them a couple months ago, and I thought it was going to be fun, but they completely blew me away. I highly suggest going.

Yeah, I know they're supposed to be great live. But I'm not a HUGE fan.. I'm a fan, and might still go.. but I'm also kind of broke.

What was this all about? Oh yeah.. Cold War Kids... hmm.

"Who's motorcycle is this?"
"It's a chopper, baby."
"Who's chopper is this?"
"Thread's"
"Who's Thread?"
"Thread's dead, baby. Thread's dead."

Or is the problem how the individual interprets and reacts to gossip/rumors/hype? Ultimately its the individual who creates their own excessive expectations for any performance.

Thats why regardless of what most people say about a performer, i go into their set not expecting much and try to see the performance for what it is.

i love their album "Robbers & Cowards", but their new material didn't turn me all that much. maybe when i hear it when their album eventually comes out, then I will warm up to it. still very glad that I got to hear them perform at Coachella though. thanks Goldenvoice!

is it true the singer of cold war kids is gay? coz iammmm down!

I think Cold War Kids is kind of a strange phenominon. It takes some time to get past the lead singers voice, its so out there at first you cant help but listen to what hes saying. Then after a few rounds through the c.d your over his voice and you know all the words.

And once you know all the words you realize that this guy is truely a great song writer.

Robbers & Cowards is great, but check out Mulberry Street if you can. It was some of there earlier stuff. Ill also say this about the new cd, its deff not as good as R & C but there are a few gems on it. Tracks 1-4 and a few others near the end.

I'm having trouble getting over the voice. A few of my friends have been so into them for a few years, and keep trying to convince me that I'm missing something great...Unfortunately, I've seen them live 3 times, and thought they were terrible...and the singer's voice makes me feel like punching him...

I do appreciate the songwriting, I just haven't been able to overcome the vocals yet

saw them at festivals. awful.

some friends told me they are better in small venues. saw them in a 150 person venue, and they were horrible.

Coachella Bound

They are deff more of an intimate atmosphere kind of band. But i really enjoyed there set @ COACHELLA.

I highly doubt that CWK were horrible. You might not have liked them but they're certainly not "horrible" live by any stretch, quite the opposite.

Not gonna lie Jeff, they were pretty horrible at Sasquatch. Sorry.

I just saw them in a small club on the 23rd of October. They are amazing. I saw them at Coachella this year. I also saw them with Andrew Bird(yuck) back when Robbers and Cowards came out. The new album Loyalty to Loyalty takes a couple of listens to really get into. It is worth it and you find some really good solid songwriting. Here is a Coachella pic from 2008 of them

Completely agree future. Loyalty to Loyalty took me a few listens all the way through but once it clicked I was hooked.

Welcome to the Occupation is probably the most stunning song on the album Imo. If you have never seen them live go to youtube and look for a video of them doing St. John. That song is probably their best one and always a crowd pleaser.
