So I was never a cub scout or boy scout, my family moved around to much.

But I always was aware of these pinewood derby car race things, and was pretty excited to see that the CSCA (Columbus Society of Communicating Arts) was doing one for charity on July 17th. Basically a bunch of designers and art directors in Columbus (adults), get to geek out and race a pinewood car they design for a good cause.

I am keeping a photo diary of my car's progress. Since we lot in here are a creative bunch... What do you guys think? Color suggestions?

It looks really cool. Make sure its to exact specs. Pinewood derby judges are dicks and will shatter you dreams and hard work in an instant.

Thanks,

Yeah I asked about all that stuff, I'm fine, they allow drilling of the axles, so you can go either with the standard slots or drill holes.

The weight ( max of 5 oz.) will be the main factor for me.

Can you race with a shopping cart?

I think you are confusing the Pinewood Derby with the Soapbox Derby.

Pinewood Derby!!!!!! Fuck yes! The title of this thread alone brought back so many memories. Hey, C Dub. I'm from Cincinnati and I went to Ohio State. I think the cub scouts are big in Ohio for whatever reason. When I won first place at the Pinewood Derby and my Grandpa gave me a high five it was probably my most cherished memory from him before he died. Those were the good old days.

Thats great. I've heard many a story like that. I hope to share some of the same when my son gets a little older. Although, it will be hard for me to be hands off on the design and making of the thing. I mean hell, its 3 in the morning and I'm taking a break from sanding. I'm not happy unless the wood resembles plastic.

Ohio is 5th in the country in number of scouts. Hmmmm, must be all the rural areas.

Ok the event happened last night - there were about 40 cars - some really cool designs - (even a tray of sushi)

(I ended up taking home the gold in speed and a 2nd in race car design)

Check out the killer trophies (hot-rodded out old mice)

From a graphic standpoint that typemobile was pretty cool. Yours turned out pretty sweet.

That black one that looked like a hot rod is money.

The paint job is classy. Not to mention the art deco and modernism. It looks like a lot of work went into the trophies too.
