In the first cycle of McDonaldland commercials beginning in 1971, Grimace was the "Evil Grimace", with two pairs of arms with which to steal milkshakes. After that first campaign, the character was revised to be one of the "good guys", and his number of arms was reduced to two.

According to McD

According to the McDonald's website:
“ Grimace is a big, loving, fuzzy purple fellow who is Ronald McDonald's best friend. He's sure Ronald is the world's ultimate authority on everything. While Grimace loves all McDonald's foods, he's absolutely crazy about milkshakes. Grimace is very enthusiastic and eager to try new things. His joyous spirit helps everyone overlook the fact he's a little slow and clumsy sometimes."

I don't know. All I do know is that I like Uncle O'Grimacey much better. That dude was the mind behind the Shamrock Shake.

Mint. They offer it around St Patty's Day. It is literally the only thing that I have purchased from McDonald's in the last 15 years.

In my McDonaldland Playset (c) that stayed in the basement at my grandparents house for when we went there, Grimace was a bad guy on the same team as the Hamburglar.

Holy shit, that brings back some memories! I loved that playground!

Flashback! My favorite playground ever was at the Burger King though. They unwisely lined the ground with pebbles. My friend and I when we were 5 thought it would be fun to take said pebbles and chuck them at cars that drove by. Some dude stopped and yelled at us after we tagged his car. No dessert that night.

It sucks that they switched to the ball/slide thing. The old playgrounds were EPIC. And don't tell me some kids don't do some f'd up stuff in the balls...

They should get one of the old playgrounds and put it at Coachella. The only thing is it might be too small for me now. : (

In all fairness, dessert was directly next door at Dairy Queen. I don't think BK had a wide selection back then.

Bullshit, Foi. You're maybe a couple years older than me tops. Maybe they just didn't have such luxuries in Ohio, though.

I am six years older than you and I grew up in Michigan. We've been over this. But this isn't about you, me, or state of origin; this is about McDonald's.

In my mind, this was one of those novelty chess sets, with Ronald as the white king and the Hamburgler as the black king. I guess the Fry Guys would be the black pawns.

Grimace, clearly a little swishy, would be the black queen.

Why hasn't this been posted yet...you guys are slacking.
