Could've swore I heard another Kraftwerk song in there other than Numbers but I can't find it now.

Anyways, good so far. Not as good as Night Ripper though.

wow. they offer 320 kbps mp3s, but forget to add track names to the mp3 tags.

Track names for Girl Talk songs are kinda irrelevant.

it's not bad...but i think 'night ripper' was a bit better.

This is the route I took also. It's not "Night Ripper", but it's growing on me.

to those choosing to pay, please don't overlook the additional cost of your reputation and soul. Apparently those are worth less than your money at the moment but they'd be better spent on something like a venereal disease.

It really upsets me that most of you will never hear International Player's Anthem except over a Unicorns song.

Fuck Girl Talk.

very half ass. just sounds like my itunes being put on shuffle. night ripper was pretty enjoyable at times but this is just boring. he should move on and do some actual remixes, he'd most likely be halfway decent at it

It was worthless before the album came out, so it can't depreciate any further.

He should focus on remixes or actual collaborations with living, breathing artists. I have listened to the new album twice, and it could have been easily tacked onto Night Ripper.

The question that keeps coming up for me and this may have already been discussed, but why hasn't anybody sued the shit out of Illegal Art and Girl Talk. It seems like a no-brainer.

A lot of this sounds awfully familiar, like what he spun in Phoenix last October. Did anyone else see him last year? Was his set basically the same thing as this mix?

Trick Loves The Kids
06-20-2008, 09:10 PM
Yeah, when I saw him he played [rap acapella] over [slightly cheesy 80s jam], and that same mash-up is on the new album.

i believe if the sample is less than 8-10 seconds then there is no infringement that can be claimed.

because girl talk and illegal art don't have that much money. you get sued when you have a number one single with a recognizable sample that you didn't clear, not when you're making mixtapes or mash-up albums for the internet.

sometimes they do. danger mouse got sued for the grey album.

that's because he used samples from The Beatles, Jay-Z didn't care and was honored to have his music mixed with The Beatles, but The Beatles reps definitely cared and took legal action.

Trick Loves The Kids

Gray Album was higher profile than anything Girl Talk has done. My MOTHER asked me about the Gray album when it was still news. That and he used Beatles music exclusively. Either way, look at what it did for his career, his band is headlining the Hollywood Bowl now.

And I listened to some of the Girl Talk thing again and I just don't understand how people could like this. I really don't. For every good blend there are several more that just sound like shit, like he's just throwing things together for the hell of it. People who love this and think it's the best shit, answer a couple questions for me.

In terms of your self-described musical tastes and preferences
1) Do you like dance music?
2) Do you like rap?

And I mean "I am thoroughly into this genre" not "I sometimes listen to a Juvenile song when I'm drunk with my friends"

1. yes
2. no

and I say 'no' in the sense that I am not thoroughly into the genre.

girl talk isn't the godsend some make him out to be, but I think his music is a lot of fun. certain parts of the new album I find very very good, others quite passable.

06-23-2008, 11:12 PM
Danger Mouse got a Cease and Desist. They didn't sue him, because he wasn't selling the album. That's the problem that Gillis will definitely run into at some point. They have the Creative Commons licensing argument, but it's not a hard fast sort of thing, so they can't be sure it'll stand in court, as it's never been argued yet. And, Gillis was mentioned in a congressional hearing, so he's known outside the indie circle.

I finally listened to this a few times, and it's cool. I mean for me I take this as something not meant to be taken serious, it's just something you play at a party, or club and dance. It's dance music, don't fucking take this as anything more because then you are failing at having a good time.
