its pretty much centered around old town..if you look at the stages on the site it gives maps of each stage.

Old Town on a Saturday can be brutal. There's a gold line stop close by, so that helps. I'm unwilling to pull a Kroqen and arrive while the stage is being built.

Um can someone explain the metro system and what-not? I might just park somewhere outside of the event area and take public trans around.

Also, how far are the stages from one another? I don't want to leave Nortec Collective early to see all of Autolux.

I've never felt more lucky that I have good friends in Pasadena. We're all getting wasted and walking the short distance to get there. I'm really psyched for Kinky but what's with the 4 PM conflict? That's a really tough choice for me. You'd think with 20 stages they would find a way to avoid that conflict.

It also shows Sasha playing at 2:00PM. Is it really Sasha? I'm hoping it's not some peruvian flute playing group that shows up and introduces themselves as Sasha.

Son of A bitch! It was scorching yesterday.

DJ Sasha
Arrived around 2:30PM to see if the artist listed as Sasha was the real thing. I checked his MySpace page. He just played Paris on the 19th and is suppose to play Ibiza on the 25th. The possibility was strong since DJ Antipop was being sponsored by French Cultural Services and that Air France is government subsidized. It landed up being 3 guys playing acoustic guitars! Assholes.

Lunch
Walked across the street to Ill Fornaio for lunch. Noticed that a small stage had been set up along the restaurant’s patio. Started with a rustichella (oven baked flatbread with goat cheese, tomatoes, and olives) then had the Pollo Toscano: ˝ a chicken with veggies and mashies. Adele Jacques came in with some 50 something guy and harassed a group of 4 cackling housewives who were sitting next to us. “Wee ar plaeeying outside weeth DJ Antipop…….” Such an arrogant asshole. Anyways, finished up lunch with the Crema al doppio gusto (combination of custard and chocolate mousse).

DJ Antipop (AKA DJ A.D.D.)
I’ll be brief. He looked like a refined Kroqen. The music he was playing was to die for. None of that swill that Steve Aoki or The Ed Banger kicks out. It was almost regal sounding. He started out with slower paced ambient song. Adele jumped on the mike to introduce DJ Antipop to the crowd, which resembled a group of seniors in a retirement home. They had 30 patio umbrellas and tables set up facing the front of the stage. Everyone sat there looking miserable from the heat. The ambient song played for what seemed like a 60 seconds, then he started playing a Daft Punk remix of Around the World. It was kind of a quick change but the song sounded great. I noticed that 3 girls in front of us were tapping their feet to the song. Before anyone could get into the song, he mixed in another song. From there, that motherfucker never let a song play for more than 60 seconds! It was beyond torture. To hear the beginning of all these beautiful songs, only to have him mix in another song after a short time was killing me. I walked away frustrated.

Autolux
They went on late, which worked out for me. The stage was on the middle of the street. The sun was totally beating down on my back. People were standing in the shade along the curb. I found a spot on the curb next to the stage and stood there for like 10 seconds then left. The alley that was next to the stage had Porto potties that reeked of hot rotten fruit. I couldn’t handle the stench and can’t understand who could. Autolux was very good. Their sound was just as good, if not better than the CD. I have Future Perfect but don’t have all of the songs memorized. Eugene made the comment “I hope I’m not mistaken for MCHammer” as he wiped the sweat off his face with a towel. Again, their set was quite good but you could tell that the heat had an effect on their performance.

The Raveonettes
Oh good lord. This band may the whole trip worthwhile. Where Autolux allowed the heat to affect their performance, it seemed like the heat make The Raveonettes kick up their performance. Their sound reminded me of the jesus and mary chain, the everly brothers, and the cramps, all rolled up into one. They are a great sounding group of musicians. I loved hearing and watching each of them interacts with one another. Sune, you son of a bitch! Man, can this guy play a guitar. Great performance. Left me wanting more.

Fro and entourage...it was a pleasure.

I got there very early 11:30.

I saw the plasticines, the special guests, division day, little ones, autolux and the ravonettes.

The Special Guests were The Switches from the UK.

I didn't stay for Kinky because at that point I had been in the heat so long I thought I was going to die. I love kinky but I have seem them 5 + times and good lord the weather was killing me.

I also thought it was crazy that stage 4 (music from around the world) was about 1.5 miles from the other stages.

And there were so many impromptu stages (I'd say about 15). There was a random stage in the urban outfitters, a stage in the park (when I went by the band was playing jazzy versions of the Jetsons and the Flintstones themes) and many other stages all over the place. I didn't really know many of the artists at the impromptu stages.

I enjoyed the Ravonettes but was disappointed that Sharin's sister was filling in for her.

But all in all I had a good day.

I was at Divison Day. My friends and g/f were waiting in that same damn line for T-Shirts. I had to opt for the shade on that one... No T-Shirt is worth an hour wait in 100 degree weather. Not even a free one. ;)

I came at around 4, when I thought the heat would subside. No dice. I only saw Autolux and the Raveonettes. Kinky's set did kick all kinds of ass but the best live band out there right now? I hope you're kidding. Ever hear of Radiohead or Sigur Ros?

The band you didn't know were The Switches from the UK. They were listed as special guest on the schedule.

They are currently on tour with She Wants Revenge, Be your own Pet, the Virgins and others on that Nylon magazine tour.

And yes they were good!

And like I said in a previous post I was disappointed about the Ravonettes line up change up but it was still lots of fun.

Pretty good. Not my kind of music but she sounded fine.
