Hayre said he didn't try to help Torres because "people could see that he was conscious."

"I'm not skilled enough when it comes to blood flowing or I would have helped him," Hayre said.

We've had 2 pedestrians killed on our freeways in Phoenix the past week. Two separate incidents. Who knows why they were walking around on the freeway.

The video is misleading. The sheriff's department said they received at least 4 911 calls within a minute of the accident. People who you see look at him and then walk away may have been trying to get to a phone. The people just standing there are probably waiting for the ambulance. I'm not saying that some people didn't care, but that video doesn't really tell the story, I don't think.

I'd be worried about moving the guy if he had a neck break or something.

one time a bunch of us were crossing South Main in Houston late at night, down by the med center, and this VW went past and i reached out and slapped the fender real hard and screamed OH MY GOD. the driver slammed onhis breaks and was a little upset when we ran off behind the hedges.

I read the whole thing. I was speaking on the guy who didn't want to get involved and the fact that someone would hit a guy and run away from the scene. Didn't get enough time to fully write out what I was thinking because I got interrupted by a phone call.

If his injuries were life threatening at least he felt some comfort from someone before he expired. Would i be able to do it if I were in that situation?
I would hope so.

I saw an accident here where I live. It was pretty fucking bad. Drunk driver went in to the other lane and went head on with this other car. !& and 19 yr old kids. One of them is pretty much a not there. I don't remember if he died or not. We ran out and called 911. Most people there were just looking. I looked for possible fuel leaks and such, but there was no way to move them if there was. It was not cool. At least people stopped and called.

Another accident I saw, I helped the guy out of the car. i thought he just hit the light post, it happened so fast. He's all dazed and bleeding, "No no, there was another car.." It was like 100 feet away. Fucking nuts. So basically, I would stop. Definitely call as well.

there was a nasty accident near my place one time. i was watching a kings playoff hockey game on tv and it had just ended. all of a sudden i heard an enormous impact. went and looked over the wall a couple minutes later and saw where a motorcycle had just t-boned a car. i was way too drunk to even think of getting involved. this dumbass on his crotch rocket was speeding up a hill with a blind curve and i guess there was a yellow light ahead of him. the car going in the opposite direction was turning left in front of him to clear the intersection before the red. this guy nailed the car so hard that his motorcycle ended up 100 yards past the accident scene while his body stayed in the intersection. my neighbors ran out right after it happened and came up on the guy laying in the road. his helmet was about 15 feet away and inside it was one of his eyes. the guy had to have died on impact. i feel bad for the guy who he hit, who was doing nothing wrong, but now is probably scarred for life by being involved in this thing. overall, i am glad i didn't make my way up to the site, because there is no way in hell i would have wanted to see that shit up close.

06-06-2008, 07:03 PM
dude, seeing a helmet with only an eyeball in it might actually be pretty cool...

and yes, i would have run over to the guy to check on him, and its pretty sad that nobody else did. i have no medical skills, but at least talk to the guy and tell him help is on the way, shit. im glad that chief publicized the video and called everybody out.

Maybe they didn't want to be involved in some frivolous lawsuit. I remember watching "Life Goes On" and the dad saved a customer from choking and ends up being sued by the person he saved because he broke a rib while saving her.

I've hit so many people in the street while driving in GTAIV and have driven off. Does that make me inhuman?

Funny thing is that the pedestrians do the same things in the game, as they did in that video.

All That I Am

We were on our way to Las Vegas when we saw a cloud of dust up ahead and everyone started slowing down.
When the dust cleared there was a greeen S.U.V. upside down with people crawling out of it. It had hit a ford taurus head on on the passenger side and caved in only half of the car. An old lady was pinned inside and we tried to help the driver out. He told us to get back that he wasn't getting out until his wife was out. We tried to pry open the door, the lady was half concious with blood running from her mouth, i looked in to see if we could pull her out but her legs were trapped inside of the car. Her forearm was broken in two places and was bent backward and forward like the letter z. this all happened in seconds and when i saw she was pinned i turned and shouted to my friend to call 911. Someone else was already on the phone and he was yelling at them to send a helicopter, because they said it would be about 30 minutes until they could get there. The 911 operator told him that the helicopter doesn't fly out that far and that we would have to wait. The girls we were with began to cry. By then there were at least 30 of us trying to help. We went over to check on the people in the S.U.V. they were doing ok.
There was nothing we could do.
We just decided to leave. Ten minutes later the ambulance passed us going the oposite direction.
If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have stopped.

I guess there isn't really a guage to determine who'll help and those reluctant to aid. For me, it is because of a situation where I some guy tried to mug me for my pager and $20. He managed to slice below my eye with a pocket knife and I managed to fight back and break his nose. I was in pretty bad shape with my face bleeding profusely and not one person in the strip mall parking lot offered to help. I mean, not one call for an ambulance nor one paper towel. I was only 15 at the time so you can imagine how freaked out I was.

So, after no one coming to at least ask if I was alright, I passed out in front of a local Chuck E. Cheese franchise and came to when a mountain of a Samoan man was trying to help stop the bleeding. This guy was 6'6 and 300+ lbs and he gave me a rag to apply pressure to the wound. Also, he offered me some pizza and an opportunity to jump in his ride and chase the perp. I declined both and waited for the ambulance/police to arrive. Well, to my dismay they too were not worth a damn and made it seem like it was my fault for walking to a Warehous to buy a cd.

Suffice to say, my pops picked me up and took me to the local hospital where the doctors used 20 stitches to sew me up. The craziest thing was that the doctor said about 3 inches higher and I would've lost my right eye.

Perhaps I shouldn't hold on to the grudge I hold on all those who just stared at me that day, but it is hard. Ever since then I do the opposite and if someone needs help, I try my hardest to provide it.
