I'll post more details when I have them. But the gist of it is:

-Our very own Bmack86 is putting this on, so you know it will be well-run, have impeccable music, and will surely sport cool facial hair.

-The show is at UCLA.

-It is on this Thursday. June 5th.

-The incredibly awesome psychedelic blues band that goes by the name of the Entrance Band is headlining. We are playing before them. Another group is playing before us, but I don't know their name.

Here is Entrance's website:

www.myspace.com/entrancerecords

-It will cost you $0 at the door. Yes, it is free. FREE.

ALSO:

One of the three tracks from our first EP/real demo is posted on our Myspace. It is free to dl. I will post a high quality download of the entire EP when it is finished. Check the tune out anyway and let me know what you think.

I will be bumping this thread daily to annoy you all. Be prepared. Come to the show. That is all.

Andrew, let us know when/if you'll be playing shows in late June-August. I can probably make one.

The phrase "psychedelic blues band" reminds me of this:

We will tour someday. We have no fan base and no money, so touring now would be foolish.

Please listen to our new song at:

This is a song from the gig we played a couple weeks ago. The vid quality sucks because of the conversion, but the audio quality is decent, considering the volume and that it was recorded on a video camera.

The venue is Kerckhoff Grand Salon. The best place to park would be Lot 6, which is the closest lot to the center of campus. To get to this parking lot from the 405, you'll take the Wilshire exit and head east. From Wilshire, turn left onto Westwood Blvd (heading north). Drive up Westwood and you'll get to campus after about 1 mile of driving. There will be a parking kiosk in the center of the street. They sell parking passes for $8(ripoff, I know). Ask for lot 6, and also ask for directions to Kerckhoff Grand Salon. They'll have campus maps.

Here is a map of campus w/directions
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/bmack86/Directions.jpg?t=1212619962

From lot 6, you'll walk east to Ackerman Union, follow the main walkway east, and turn right when you get to the stairs. Kerckhoff will be the courtyard that you encounter when you go up the stairs, and the venue will be obviously marked. There should be signs up in the student union if you get lost. Also, if you want more help, PM me and I'll get you my phone number so you can call me tomorrow for more specific instructions.

Nice Ghost World clip. I forgot about that hilarious scene. What a great movie.

How long will you guys and the Entrance Band be playing?

I have class until 9:30 in Santa Monica but I'm down. I could bring tons of people with me but I'm sure you guys aren't going to be playing for more than an hour. Fucking Finals!

bmack86
06-04-2008, 04:44 PM
They'll have a 40-50 minute set. Entrance will be around 1-1:30, depending on what they want to do pretty much.

Backwater
06-04-2008, 04:56 PM
I'll be there for Entrance then. Tet Holiday sounds good though, especially considering you don't have a fanbase yet. I'll have to see you guys sometime. I like the Zep at the end. What covers do you play? What bars do you play at?

bballarl
06-04-2008, 08:36 PM
Cool, you will really dig the Entrance Band. They are awesome live.

We can't play at bars cause I'm almost 20, drummer is 18 and bass player turns 15 later this year. So we rely on shows with friends' bands and stuff. We do a few different covers but the sets are mostly originals.

Most of the reason we don't have a fanbase is that we haven't played very many shows. That one in the video is our third show. This will be our fourth.

I just got back. The Entrance weren't too bad but I expected them to be older, they were great considering how young they are though. Do they really call themselves blues? That definitely was NOT blues music. Psychedelic - sure why not, Blues - not really even close. It was just some good old hard rockin. It sounded like an amateur MMJ, which is a good thing because I love MMJ, but they really mislabel themselves. I guess their lyrics are kind of bluesy but their song structures and overall style of instrumentation is just rock and roll.

Bryan you were so pimp tonight.

Andrew was really good. He is such a front man it's not even funny. And his band sounded great. I took some pics which I'll put up tomorrow. The room they played in looked like, in Chris's words, the Hogwarts dining room. More bands should play there.

I'm graduating next week, and I book concerts with a student group.

Yeah, it was a cool room. I would like to play there.

Who do I talk to about booking UCLA shows?

We've started using that room in earnest now because our other venue is under construction. The first show I saw there was Colin Meloy solo, and I've since seen Grizzly Bear, Minus the Bear, Health, Islands and a few more.

The Talking Heads played their first show in LA in that room, and I'm fairly certain that Martin Luther King spoke there in 64. That room has history.

If it's a student group and you're no longer a student then nevermind about booking but click on that link and listen for a few minutes. I'm sure you'll dig it considering those three bands you mentioned that you saw at Kerkhoff, especially minus the bear. I wish I could have gotten there in time you see guys, but I had a final in santa monica.

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=2775672If

This is my band Repeater, I play the drums. Click on that link from the post two above this one if that doesn't work. I'm bad with computers so I posted a link that didn't work twice in the "the best show ever that I bet nobody was at" thread. If you like what you hear on Repeater's myspace page you guys should see us at the Moscow. I'm sure you will like a band called Minor Canon as well. Take care.

Last show? Son of a bitch. Now I can chalk up this one up along with missing Daft Punk in the tent.

I was on Santa Monica last night around 6:30PM. It took me 30 minutes to drive from Federal to the 405. I was too pissed to even pass by Stans at that point.

tessalasset

It took me 30 minutes to drive from Federal to the 405.

hahaha oh my god. i fucking hate that stretch. i take san vicente east to that intersection in the morning to go to work, and it will literally take 1/3 of my drive time just waiting to get onto the freeway. so almost a year ago I said fuck it, and now I drive through the VA and end up at the 405 south entrance. Waiting for the day I get pulled over for using it like that.

fatbastard
06-06-2008, 11:38 AM
I did the same thing the other day. I looked to make sure there wasn't a cop under the bridge then went around those orange poles.

tessalasset
06-06-2008, 02:23 PM
ive seen so many people get pulled over that way.

one time i was going about 50 through the VA on my way home (speed limit is 20) and i fly by a cop and he screams "PULL OVER!!!!!" out his window. I thought i was so busted, but instead of parking behind me he pulls up to the side of my car and just goes "YOU NEED TO SLOW DOWN! Veterans can't get out of the way fast enough if you are coming towards them!" and then drives off. I can't BELIEVE I didn't get a ticket for that.
