On the one hand it's usually the last weekend in April, so the 24th-26th makes sense... but that's one day earlier than it's ever started.

Thus on the other hand, May 1st-3rd doesn't seem out of play (2004 was May 1st-2nd).

Who's got a hunch?

I don't want it to be the first Sat in May. That's Kentucky Derby weekend. For oan odd-ball like me that's 2 biggest passions in life are music and horse racing (no joke), it would suck to have those 2 weekends clash. But let me state for the record that Coachella would win out over the Kentucky Derby for my cameos that weekend.

I would like to by plane tickets as early as possible... when do they usually announce the dates?

Uhhh... last year I think they anounced the dates late November.

Anyone remember if I am right?

Funny this got bumped...I just went ahead and reserved a room for the 23-27th. Motel 6 doesn't even show rooms available for this weekend; they must be holding out to see what the dates are too. I also called Hilton and asked what their airline rates are for their numerous properties in the area...she said that weekend is blocked out from special fares...so who knows.

I ended up booking at the Travelodge in Cathedral City....$514 total for four nights. Last year I got so sick if sitting in traffic...maybe if they have that onsite camping thing where your tents are all set up and stuff again I'll change my mind and camp.

We booked our rooms for the same weekend. What we did this year is we still had a camping pass so that we could party in the campgrounds and sleep off the alcohol, then woke up around 7 am and drove to the hotel for further sleep and showers. It worked out great.

Have you been to the Derby?
I went in '94 & it was one of the funnest weekends of my life!
I follow the race closely every year too & would also hate for it to clash.
But yes, Coachella would win for me too.

motel 6 doesn't have any dates available in april because they don't book that far in advance, just wait a bit longer.

Last year, I had my room booked in May at the Motel 6. Maybe they changed their policy.

I hear that a lot of the artists stay at those pricey hotels in the area (like the Esmerelda). If that's the case, the organizers would need to block out those rooms pretty far in advance. I wonder if someone in the group sales department could tell us.
