Greetings from Denmark,

First off, I have to take my hat off for the line-up of this year’s Coachella, I am simply amazed.
I will be going to Roskilde Festival (A big Danish music festival), and so far they have only confirmed Björk and RCHP, but I’m crossing my fingers for just half the bands of Coachella.

This spring(late april --> late june) I am going for a little roadtrip with my friend, we’ll be driving all over the Canadian and American west coast, but unfortunately we just can’t make it to Coachella.
So. I was hoping if some of you could advice me in some concerts/gigs/bars etc, for a couple of music loving guys(21 and 20 – if it makes any difference), looking for some of the same bands/genres that are playing Coachella…

It would be these bands that have the most interest:
Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, Gogol Bordello, the Arcade Fire, the Good, The Bad and The Queen, Teddybears, Klaxons, CSS, the Roots, Air, Rage Against The Machine, Ghostface Killah, Hot Chip, Kings Of Leon, Gotan Project, the Rapture, LCD Soundsystem

Thanks in advance.

Peace.

Check out the Pitchfork music fest July 14th-15th. Last year's lineup was awesome, and it's dirt cheap. Something like $35 for a two-day pass. It's in Chicago, so I don't know if that's too far away.

sasquatch festival is at the gorge in seattle, normally takes place in may.

Pollstar (http://www.pollstar.com) would be a good place to look into artist/city schedules. They will have most most non-local shows (along with plenty of local ones.)

Also keep in mind that many venues (especially the smaller ones) do not book/announce shows more than a couple months in advance so there will be even more shows than what Pollstar lists now.

The big festival in Seattle, WA. is Bumbershoot, but that's later than when you'll be traveling around here (it's the end of August/beginning of September).
For small venues/bars that have concerts in Seattle, look up places like El Corazon, Showbox, Neumos, The Phoenix, Paramount. This place here, www.MikeThrasherPresents.com, gives a kind of update of shows going on from Seattle to Portland, Oregon and Eugene, Oregon. =)

Have fun & sorry you can't make it to Coachella!

I was just going to make another post, because I left out Sasquatch Festival! Nothing's been announced yet for this year... but it'll probably be worth your while. (It's at the Gorge, in a town called George, Washington. It's tiny!) But I imagine that Indio is somewhat like it, because it's beautiful there, with awesome acoustics. Anyhow, I've never been to Sasquatch Festival, but they've had some good lineups... =)

If you stop in San Francisco, the Great American Music Hall and the Fillmore are my two favorite venues.

In LA my favorite is the Troubadour. The Fonda is another good smallish venue and the Wiltern is nice for bigger shows.

There should be some good bands playing those cities while you're around. Most shows are all ages but some are 21+ so just check. Things tend to sell out ahead of time, especially in LA, so you might want to try to get tickets a few weeks before the show. If tickets are sold out through Ticketmaster, you can see if anyone is selling them on craigslist.org.

Or you could just suck it up and buy a 3-day pass.

I think England has the best music festivals besides Coachella. Some major cities like Los Angeles have concerts that are Coachella type bands almost ever night. Probably the folks in Barstow, Sphincter Montana and even Boise Idaho have less options.
