What does Bronson have to say about Detour?

Boourns
05-15-2008, 10:53 PM
Yeah, really. I'm going with speculation since it's still five months away. Well, there's often a grain of truth to most rumors (except for fake posters). Like the My Bloody Valentine reunion at Coachella 2008. We know for a fact now that they were invited and it's possible that they actually agreed but dropped out.

You know a festival has really made it when a bunch of rumors go around and most of them end up not coming true. If it hadn't, nobody would care.

LA needs a Jarvis Cocker appearance. I don't care if it's at Detour or the Echoplex or the Troubadour or the Henry Fonda or the Mayan or the fucking Forum.

Detour should always have some solid LA/Southern CA representation. Silversun Pickups, Sandra Collins, Cold War Kids, Circle Jerks, Social Distortion, the Dickies, Jane's Addiction (that would be a great headliner), DJ Dan.....

I went the first year and saw QOTSA, Beck, Blonde Redhead, Of Montreal, Basement Jaxx, etc. It was an awesome day and right in the heart of downtown, with art installations, food vendors, the works. It was also cool because the DJ's were set up in the church, and I had never gotten my dance on in a church before!

I remember people making out in the confessional booths during Weird Science. But the first year was amazing. I missed most of QOTSA because of Beck/!!! conflicts but didn't like what I heard, anyway. I meant to check out Peeping Tom before Beck but spent that time hanging out with people I knew and finally ran into instead. Oh the sacrifices I make for ladies...:P

Detour was Fun. Teddybears killed it.

Ardentbiscuit
05-21-2008, 06:18 AM
The Teddybears were good but I thought they were better at Coachella.

Another thing is that they urged people to take the subway but some of the artists played past the last subway time so lots of people missed it. They should have the artists be more conscious of that if they are going to encourage people to take public transportation or at least post signs around saying, "LAST SUBWAY LEAVES AT THIS TIME, PLEASE PLAN YOUR TRIP ACCORDINGLY."

I can't wait for this year though.. :)

Boourns
05-22-2008, 12:39 AM
Yeah, the subway in LA is fucking shit. What's the point if it shuts down so fucking early? It should be required by law to run all night. And people wonder why everyone drives drunk, high, with suspended licenses, etc.

zenidogx
05-22-2008, 12:47 AM
detour sucked last year.
teddybears werent as good as their coachella show.
bloc party failed again.
justice was alright.
comedians of comedy were nowhere close to as awesome as coachella.
kinky, the aliens, and the shout out louds were decent.

i wish i'd been there in 06, but 07 was forgettable (except for Patton Oswalt and Brian Posehn signing my stomach).

08 better be better and the prices better not go up.

Boourns
05-22-2008, 01:00 AM
I've been debating on whether or not to post this, but what the hell. I don't know how reliable this source is, but someone at the Dresden Dolls told me some stuff about Detour:
1. NO to Weezer, but there is a Beck-league headliner. He wouldn't say who, just that the headliner will be fun, draw a big crowd, and is relatively affordable.
2. never heard of Robyn before
3. Jarvis Cocker is doing something in LA, could be Detour, could be another show elsewhere, or could be a speaking event or film project (better not be nothing at all)
4. More Ed Banger, probably Justice again

Ardentbiscuit
05-24-2008, 09:07 AM
Booking Justice for Detour would be crazy because they played 2 Coachellas in a row and the last Detour.

I can't imagine Goldenvoice would book the same artist for 4 large events in a row.....it's seems kind of lazy.

One of my concerns for Detour last year was that it seemed really empty. There were areas of the festival last year where I could stand and look around and I was almost completely alone.

Id take a troub appearance over all of the those, followed by the fonda.

Oh Damn YES! Let me count the ways I love LA!

Oh.. and Silversun Pickups SUCK ASS live. Just saying....

Their two troub shows were great! their coachella mainstage set, not so great...I still say peter bjorn and john should have been on mainstage and silversuns in mojave that year.

Beck is playing the Hollywood Bowl a month before, so don't count on him.

Beck lives around the corner so it wouldnt be a stretch for him...I'd love to see the hives there though.

Last years Detour really slumped in crowd size from its first year, lets hope the draw is greater. Its wonderful taking the subway from the valley to the fest and back! for once I dont have to worry about parking

Edit: I'd love for jaime lidell to make an appearance

Gogol Bordello is definitely a strong possibility because of this.

I'm still on the fence about Asobi Seksu. They will apparently be touring the US in the fall and will be in Illinoise a couple weeks beforehand, so a tour schedule would logically come to the west coast a week or two after that gig. I remember in 2006 they played the Echo the night before Detour. I'm hoping for a solo gig, so I can get a full set, but on the other hand, I know they would make Detour a must-attend and festivals are good times. Both would be nice, lulz.

See The Aquabats at the Glass House in August

That way everyone wins.

This is true; and I could just see Rancid the night after. Too bad MxPx is opening, because they suck.

i want to know already!
i researched some possibilities and could only get this:
-flogging molly has a gap in their schedule between anaheim and LA - very likely
- the racontuers tour ends 10/1, in ATL - maybe, prolly no
- gogol bordello, as previously mentioned - maybe, prolly yes

Boourns
06-23-2008, 08:17 PM
Gogol Bordello playing Hardly Strictly Bluegrass that weekend plus being total festival whores makes them very likely. As for Flogging Molly, I think bands with LA dates are less likely to play this. Raconteurs, yeah, prolly no.

Jarvis Cocker seriously owes us for having never played LA.

It's tricky to predict since so many bands come through LA around that time of year and not all of them have been announced yet.

That would be amazing. But not gonna happen. Well, it's possible because there is no date scheduled that day, but...

2008.09.30 the marquee, tempe
2008.10.01 copley, san diego
2008.10.02 los angeles, greek theatre
2008.10.03 berkeley, greek theatre
2008.10.05 benaroya hall seattle
2008.10.06 arlene schnitzer theatre, portland
2008.10.07 the chan centre, vancouver

It would mean coming back down to LA from SF and then up to Seattle the next morning. I wonder if they are flying or taking a tour bus. No way could a bus make it up there in time. And still, that would be 8 shows in 8 days without any rest.

shakermaker113
06-23-2008, 10:32 PM
not to mention that they already had an LA date two nights earlier... festival organizers usually try to get a slightly more exclusive headliner.

there will probably be some overlap with the bands playing the friday/sunday shows at love fest in SF as well. but without a love fest lineup thus far, that's not much help.

Ok, lets see here, pretty much you can count them out. Detour still has geographic restrictions like a lot of festivals when it comes playign close to the festival date. The only reason lets say Justice last year was doing both, was due to the fact that the Fonda is a Goldenvoice venue, so there were not going to lose anything with them playing a solo show. If Gogol was playing like the Fonda or soemthign right before, it could be more feasible... Ill say no for now, until they say something.

I think Orange County is good Mid-ground

they could definately pull off both without missing much

it all depends on who else is playing and how big their draw is
