View Full Version : Your Bands of the Moment

luckyface

Who are your "bands of the moment"? What bands are you currently not able to get enough of lately? Who have you been listening to repeatedly?

I have a few that have been listening to many times a week for the last month or so. They are:

1) God is an Astronaut
2) Hammock
3) Casino vs Japan
4) Slowdive

Your turn.

(Sorry if this replicates a different thread. I am hoping it serves as a band recommendation thread)

Dude I thought of them as soon as I read this thread. I bunch of my friends who are in love with shoegaze are getting me into it, and gave me a CD by them. Its excellent, loving it greatly.

Also, because I just saw them live, Radiohead has been rocking out in my stereo.

M83 is another one, because in June i'm seeing them. I still need to get their new album, come to think of it.

also, Aphex Twin has been taking up stereo time as well. Between "We Are The Music Makers" (one of my favorite songs ever) and his Coachella boot, I can't get enough of it.

Just a band.

Nice.

I agree, on a side note, with almost all the bands he references in that song. However:
The Beatles were just a band. False. They also, unwittingly, were architects of a social movement.

Crass , just a band. False. They were a small but very active political force, to the point that the music can be seen as a secondary to the cause in many cases, and that's how they would have wanted it.

Minor Threat , just a band. Unfortunately, false. They started a social movement (straight edge) that still has ramifications to this day, whether or not they have any interest in being a part of it.

But this isn't about me.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

How much crack do you smoke on a dailey basis? Or do you just know nothing at all about metal?

As a long time huge metalhead I can say with complete confidence that you are absolutely wrong on this one.

They had one decent album with Number of the Beast. Bruce Dickinson sounds like a dying cat, he always has.

Have you seen Maiden live? They blow.

They are without a doubt the most overrated metal band ever. The U2 of metal.

Do yourself a favor and listen to Chaos A.D. from Sepultura. Now that's metal!

Granted they are not Metallica or Slayer... but if you put 80s Metallica and Slayer as the standard... no one would met that. Bands like Iron Maiden paved the way for Metallica and Slayer. So Iron Maiden are definately metal.

no way. Iron Maiden did not pave the way for Metallica. Kill em all came out in 83, 3 years after Iron Maidens debut. If anything I would say the hardcore punk bands like black flag, minor threat, etc. Paved the way for thrash metal.

yeah, but black flag formed in 1977 in southern california, the same place as metallica. You know lars and james were going to Black Flag shows when they decided to start a band. too deny Kill em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for All are good metal albums voids your argument.

That shit sucks, Kreutz. Sorry. I'll give them One--that's not a bad track. Everything else is fucking tripe. The 80s didn't make any decent metal, it started in 90 with Cowboys From Hell, you pussies.

yeah, but black flag formed in 1977 in southern california, the same place as metallica. You know lars and james were going to Black Flag shows when they decided to start a band. Iron Maiden were playing shows in europe in 1977 and lest you forget it was not as easy to hear about music 30 years ago as it is now.

True. I am not saying the hardcore/punk scene didn't have an influence on them, I am sure it did. In fact, I know it did. Look up any pictures of Cliff Burton, I met in 90% of them he will be wearing a Misfits shirt.
I guess Iron Maiden didn't have a direct influence on Metallica's music, but in a way it got the world ready for Metallica. People thought Iron Maiden were heavy, then Metallica and Slayer came and kicked everyones asses.

iron maiden isn't metal? anybody who says this does not know a fucking thing about metal. i've seen biographies, documentaries, Rock in Rio, and saw them in concert with motorhead and dio opening for them, and I can without a doubt say they put on the second to best show I have ever seen in my life (only second to Waters set). and anyone who says they didn't influence slayer, think again. slayer started out with playing judas priest and iron maiden covers. get your shit straight, listen to Number of the Beast, they were groundbreaking with their "metal" riffs. they weren't black sabbath or led zeppelin that were highly blues influenced - they actually created a sinister, brooding style of riffing (along with judas priest) that would be come known as metal. perfect example is "hallowed be thy name" off of Number of the Beast. Iron Maiden, early Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Slayer, and Motorhead are all significant and have their place in metal and rock history. Randy's a fucking moron for discrediting any of these bands. I'm not saying he has to like or listen to them, I'm just saying it makes him sound like a fucking foolish prick to deny their impact on the world of music

no way. Iron Maiden did not pave the way for Metallica. Kill em all came out in 83, 3 years after Iron Maidens debut. If anything I would say the hardcore punk bands like black flag, minor threat, etc. Paved the way for thrash metal.

Dude, serious? Lars Ulrich always claimed that the reason he got into metal music as opposed to tennis is because the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, which was led by Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. He would mail order records from Europe, and James met him because of his record collection. James and Lars might backedit and say they went to lots of punk shows, but they never claim that in any of their interviews. They always say that Cliff Burton loved hardcore, and they humored him, but those guys were all into old school english metal.

The stuff that paved the way for them was Diamondhead, Motorhead, and Mercyful Fate. Weird 70s and early 80s shit.
