It's a pain in the ass to wash clothes without machine, it's not hard to dry without one.

Definitely the washing machine.

ivankay

damn, i picked dryer without checking out what the rest of you had to say. When i voted and saw the results, my initial thought was a bunch of girls liked the shake of an overloaded machine. How wrong was i about the ease provided by the washer and how easy it is to hang clothes.

i picked the dryer first because of that joy on a cold day when you take freshly dried clothes out and get to hold all that warmth. That is one of the greatest things ever, but i would like to change my vote to avoid having to beat my clothes on a rock.

Wow, Washing Machine is stomping face in this Poll....

Hannahrain
05-12-2008, 06:34 PM
I am torn. While the washing machine is absolutely all it's cracked up to be, I feel that the dryer deserves more credit than it's been given. First, what Ivankay said about the clothes on a cold day. Absolutely that. But also, for slovenly individuals like myself who sometimes neglect folding clothes and leave them on the floor instead, the dryer can be a lifesaver in making something look presentable at the last minute.

MissingPerson
05-12-2008, 06:37 PM
I think it says everything you need to know about us here that this poll is, and will be, a more intense and eloquently argued discussion than anything about politics, world events or climate change.

Also, Washing Machine FTW!

Hannahrain
05-12-2008, 06:41 PM
I think I might be more likely to instantly declare the washing machine as my favorite if I had a front-loading one where I could watch the clothing spin. But as things are, it's just a big white box that I put clothes in and then I close it and then it grumbles. I can't trust it. How do I know it's really washing anything? I don't. There could be like a tiny person in there that does all the work and the machine is taking all the credit. Until either machine proves to me that it's worthy of my loyalty, I will not vote.

I'm now torn again. This time, not between appliances, but in deciding whether this post should be about the topic at hand or whether it should be blatant lobbying for you to be my best friend. I guess I will meet myself halfway and post this.

We can be washer-dryer buddies! And we'll be so happy! Because we can be both sparkly clean and cosy warm!

And people will look on us in wonder - for we are the future.

I voted before I read this thread, and I am beside myself. The dryer is so clearly, so, so clearly superior. It makes things WARM and SOFT. Thousands of generations cleaned clothes without washing machines, what SEPARATES us from the past is the POWER to dry a bedspread, a sleeping bag, fuck it, your COAT in 45 minutes. People. Please. Get it together. Civilization.

This is a very good point. Your dryer can also serve as an emergency ironer when it comes to freshening up your clothes at the last minute.

Very convincing argument. Also, it doesn't rain in Southern California, so if I didn't have a dryer, I could probably hang my laundry on a clothesline somehow.

Washing Machine ftw.

I've got one of those fancy Japanese washer/dryer combos. In go the clothes and a few hours later the whole thing is done. So, for me, there is no separation of the devices.

Actually yes. I compared its Energy Star rating to other models of the same size and it has one of the best ratings. It cycles on and off and somehow it dries without ventilation. It's a mystery to me how it all works but I dare not ask for fear of angering the laundry gods.

i think that the Washing Machine is better because it can clean stuff that u cant hand wash and if you live in a state like Fl its always hot so you can let it air dry

half of my clothes never see the dryer, so i vote washing machine.

BUT, i've never seen anyone squeeze themselves into a washing machine like i have a dryer, so the dryer kinda has that going for it. but with those new front loaders, it may have some "human stuffing" competition now.

Don't they have to label the human stuffing capacity on the front of the machines when they're sold?

My dryer has been broken for the past month or so. I've been hang-drying everything. It sucks, but I can do that a lot better than I can hand wash all the clothes.

:rotfl you rock :)

and amy, i totally feel your pain. i hang dry like half of my clothes cause they're all delicates. it's annoying as hell. i can't even put them on our patio because we have this tree that gets these little fuzzy things all over your clothes if you leave them out there. i'm lucky to have a strong shower rod, lol.
