Stereolab Announce North American Tour

When we spoke with Stereolab's Tim Gane a few weeks back about the veteran group's forthcoming album Chemical Chords, he mentioned a North American tour the band were plotting around September. Let it never be said Mr. Gane is not a man of his word.

Plans for Stereolab to wind their way across the continent are presently in place, with the dates kicking off September 20 in Costa Mesa, California. Openers for the first leg of the tour are still up in the air, but Laetitia Sadier will play double duty on the second leg, as her side project Monade is scheduled to take the stage before Stereolab.

Chemical Chords is due August 18 worldwide and August 19 in the U.S. via Duophonic UHF Disks/4AD.

Detroit Bar is a small lil place. If you never been there you will like it. Stereolab played there about 5 yrs ago

Have you been to this place?

I enjoy the Fonda and the food within the surrounding.

No, but Ill take the smaller venue to start a tour, than a bigger place to end one. Then again, you might not be able to go. Same day as Beck....

Are you SERIOUS? It was only 3 weeks ago that the only concert in motion was The Cure now there are conflicts in September? Uhm man.

Fall tour conflicts are a bitch.. The Fonda show will be fine if thats what you go to. Detroit Bar conflicts, but if you go to Pomona, it wouldnt. Just pray nothing more amazing than MBV happens those same days they play here.

I sort of just discovered this band, really enjoy what I hear so far. Planning on getting tickets Monday for their show at the Vic in October. Album recommendations?

Aside from Radiohead playing The Troubadour or Daft Punk playing The Mayan, what on earth would conflict with MBV?

Stereolab was one of the best sets I've seen at Coachella, and are great in smaller venues. Just a very cool band in general.

I saw Stereolab back at ATP in 2002...fantastic set...didn't one of the singers die in a bike accident though?

Yesss! Looks like another drive to Austin for me.

I'm going to go listen to Dots and Loops.

Edit: SHIT, The Austin show is two days before ACL. I should just move to Austin..

AAAUUUGHHHH!

No Phoenix dates. What a surprise. Looks like I'll be going to visit San Francisco in October, then.

I was listening to Cobra and Phases this week and almost started a groop appreciation thread. BEST BAND EVAR.

Sadly, bassist Mary Hansen was killed in a bike accident several years ago. She was an incredibly talented musician and her voice will never be replaced. :(

Indeed.

I will be attending the Seattle show, which may very well be my first show in Seattle after moving there from the SF Bay Area.

Any idea as to when this tour goes on sale?

Soon - LA tickets are on sale next week, and SF ones go on sale I think 5/18. I'd guess Seattle is on sale 5/18 or the following week.

Is the Fillmore a big venue? Assigned seating?

Just realized this is smack in the middle of the fookin' week. Please jeebus, don't let it sell out before this weekend. Gotsta get paid.

The Fillmore is mediocre size.. I am actually surprised it isn't sold out yet and am praying just as you are it isn't until the end of this weekend.

One example of the size of the fillmore is back when Smashing Pumpkins had their residency there (I think like 11 shows) all 11 shows sold out in 15 minutes (roughly).

The Fillmore is all GA and is my favorite indoor venue in the Bay Area. Almost all of the artists who play there are familiar with the Venue's history and are overjoyed to be apart of its history.

Their Chicago date is perfect. Hopefully I'll be catching MMJ on that Thurs night at the Chicago Theatre, then catch Stereolab at the Vic the next night. October might not suck.

Fillmore is ~1200 capacity and is all GA. There is a very limited amount of table space in the balcony (mezzanine?). Longish bar along the side of the ground level, a bar in the balcony and another limited bar upstairs. There is a reasonably high stage, so it's pretty easy to see from most points.

It's pretty easy to get close to the stage there, people tend to mill around and not show up very early. Even at the most crowded show I've been to there, it was still easy to get up front.

Yeah I love the fillmore.. Anybody else been backstage? It's super overrated..probably the worst thing about the fillmore actually (if u can actually get into the backstage).
