So is Promiscous Boy by Nelly Furtado. Granted she pretty much sucks, but if Timbaland touches it, it turns to gold. That guy pretty much shits out singles these days. Her other single Say It Right has a great hook in the chorus. Glad to see that pop music is getting a little more consistant.

Oh man...I have a friend that likes them. He easily has the worst taste in music out of all my friends. But yeah...this one time i was reading this book by the guy that wrote fight club. And I told him about this clever quote "The only difference between suicide and martyrdom is press coverage" and he said that's not clever, that's stupid, its not true at all blah blah blah. 3 months later we are in a record store and he goes to buy the panic at the disco cd and i'm like i can't believe you like that trash i think i said something about them not being very creative and he says look how clever their song titles are "the only difference between suicide and martyrdom is press coverage" that's clever. And I just sit there and stare at him and I go "Fuck You! You're fucking with me right? (realized he wasn't) Fuck You!"

I'll admit to it in any company, I don't give a fuck, they made some awesome songs. I just always end up thinking though of the one Simpsons episode where they have Mr. Burns childhood teddy bear Bobo and Burns has tanks outside their house ready to siege, and he tells Smithers to put in the "tape." Smithes puts in a cassette type, which starts to blare Ride of the Valkyries but after a couple seconds switches to Waterloo. Smithers apologizes, saying he must have recorded over it, but they do the whole sequence of storming the Simpson house with tanks and soldiers and everything with Waterloo blasting... so, so, so good. God I miss when that show was still The Simpsons.

suprefan
04-08-2007, 07:12 PM
Hahaha Ride of The Valkyries. Speaking of that they need to make a good Viking movie, since you know they need to tap into a new ancient group of soldiers, why not them right? Sadly they are releasing a movie called "Pathfinder" which has cool looking Vikings in it but the story sucks.

Strictly Ballroom is a classic. It's directed by Baz Luhrman who did Moulin Rouge and Romeo & Juliet. It's sort of a bit off it's rocker, but utterly charming. One of my favorite movies of all time actually.

Strictly Ballroom is absolutely a must-see. It's my favorite Baz Luhrmann film.

As far as guilty pleasures go, I'll fess up to owning (and loving) the complete works of Marillion; the latter-day catalog of Simple Minds; and Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. At least I can no longer find my cassette of the Falco album containing "Rock Me Amadeus."

See, I have her album of covers, and I was disappointed in what she did to the song. It's like she took all the emotion out. But I applaud her for making it her own. It bothers me when covers sound exactly like the original. If you're gonna bother doing a cover, at least put your own stamp on it.

I totally love Chicago. My friend and I saw them in St. Louis a few years back. We even made t-shirts for it...mine said "Mrs. Cetera" and hers said "Peter Cetera Is My Inspiration". Unfortunately we didn't realize Peter Cetera had long left the group. sigh

My favorite is "If You Leave Me Now".

I have sadly never seen them live. They played the Arizona State Fair when I was 10-ish, and even though we went right after school, the place was already too filled up, and we couldn't get in! :( (admission to the show was free with fair admission). We went on the fair rides instead.

eh.. not my favorite piece by them.. they can do better I think. Linkin Park's music is just way too overplayed - like i'd probably like that song better if I hadnt heard the original "numb" every 4 seconds after it came out. I'd also probably like it better if I liked jay Z at all too, but what can you do.

i love that song. except for that weird alien voice that says "cuz i got you, babe". it's like they used a vocoder to make a guy's voice sound feminine. i don't know why they didn't just have a girl sing that part. it's not hard. i volunteer if they want to re-record it. i'll do it for free.

There's a bar in Chicago called Exit - nominally a punk/biker bar, but one of their best nights is "No Shame Wednesdays." The all-girl staff (including the hot l'il DJ) dress up in zebra-print spandex and the like, PBR on special, and all the bad hair metal and cock-rock from the 80's gets a spin. Everything from Journey to Ratt with even the occasional Heart tune thrown in. Chicks dance on the bar. There's even a stripper pole towards the back. Guilty pleasures abound.

I'm really digging that Gym Class Heroes song. The one with the chorus that's like "Take a look at my girlfriend, she's the only I got (ba ba da da...)

You do realize that they "borrowed" that hook (even more than that really...) from a Supertramp song called "Breakfast in America" right? The weird thing is that you'd think people know this but it doesn't seem like they do...

they didn't borrow the hook. They sampled from the song. I mean, it has the Supertramp singer and everything.

Lovefool - The Cardigans

Dear, I fear we're facing a problem,
You love me no longer I know and,
Maybe there is nothing that I can do to make you do.
Mama tells me I shouldn't bother,
That I ought to stick to another man,
A man that surely deserves me.
But I think you do.

So, I cry and I pray and I beg,
Love me, love me, say that you love me,
Fool me, fool me, go on and fool me,
Love me, love me, pretend that you love me,
Lead me, lead me, just say that you need me,
So I cry and I beg for you to
Love me, love me, say that you love me,
Lead me, lead me, just say that you need me,
I can't care about anything but you,
Lately, I had desperately pondered,
Spent my nights awake and I wondered,
What I could have done in another way to make you stay,
Reason will not teach a solution,
I will end up lost in confusion,
I don't care if you really care as long as you don't go,

So, I cry and I pray and I beg,
Love me, love me, say that you love me,
Fool me, fool me, go on and fool me.
Love me, love me, pretend that you love me,
Lead me, lead me, just say that you need me,
So I cry and I beg for you to
Love me, love me, say that you love me,
Lead me, lead me, just say that you need me,
I can't care about anything but you,
Anything but you,
Love me, love me,
Say that you love me,
Fool me, fool me,
Go on and fool me,
Love me, love me,
I know that you need me,
I can't care about anything, but you.

Bad reality tv... and yes I am almost peeing my pants with excitement for the new season of so you think you can dance as well. is it wrong to admit I have a huge crush on shane sparks?

DVR has ruined my life, it use to be the only show I watched religiously was LOST but now I have a full lineup of shows and I feel mighty guilty about that. When I got back from Coachella my damn DVR was at 98% capacity and I spent 4 days cleaning that crap out.

Music.. cheesy 80's rap, I loved the song white lines, and of course I like big butts, actually walking into coachella this year there was a group of young folk walking in behind me and my sister who decided to seranade us with that song. Apparently being a white girl with a big ole booty makes us unique.

I also love copa cabana by barry manilow, sweet caroline by niel diamond, Rapture by blondie and dancing queen by abba.

OK my list is apparently endless so I am going to stop there.

I would pay if Justice would also back Madonna for her set. I would actually probably pay a good amount for that...haha.

That'd be wild. It'd be like seeing her early in her career, dealing with an act that is at least as wild as her. Now she can hire bands that do whatever she says, but I doubt Justice would, which would make for a cool, if uneven, show.

Hair Metal, awesome pop, prog almost-metal, hair metal

That was an explanation, band by band.

In other words, ELO is good.

And, Justin Timberlake isn't a guilty pleasure for me. I proudly drive around listening to his stuff. Or, I did for awhile. Not so much recently.

Here's a guilty pleasure. It might have something to do with the fact that I grew up with the shit, but I find myself increasingly wanting to listen to modern country. And, furthermore, finding that Toby Keith, despite the Jingoism, is a damn good songwriter when it comes right down to it. He does stuff that has a tradition rooted in the 70s Bakersfield guys, and he experiments with his sound quite a bit on his later albums. Also, I read a bizarre interview with him, where he talked about how he's really excited to vote for Obama and is a registered Democrat. Who knew.

Bump because it's been more than two years since anybody's been in here and it'd be interesting to see what people fess up to now.

My main guilty pleasure: T.I. (yeah, I know)

Dire Straits. Springsteen became cool again, but I'm not sure this ever will.

The album I'm probably most guilty of enjoying is Kid Rock's Devil Without A Cause. I have no excuse other than I think it sounds cool. I don't like how he's become country-fied lately, he was better when he was rapping about women, drugs, alcohol, etc.

And out of the current pop stars, I like Kelly Clarkson and Lady Gaga.

Oh, Cocky is where he started getting too country for my tastes. It had a few good tunes, but I got rid of it soon after I bought it.

Yesterday at the tanning salon, the mystery music channel I chose for my session played the following tunes in succession: NSYNC's "Tearin' Up My Heart," Mumford & Sons' "Little Lion Man," John Mayer's "Bigger Than My Body," and Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me." I was happy to hear all of them. Especially NSYNC. I love NSYNC. Correction: *NSYNC.

I spent the first Christmas break of college listening to this song repeatedly and sobbing.
