OK, I'm sure this will be a polarizing band on this message board, but they are releasing a new album and will be touring this summer in support of it. They aren't my favorite band, but I saw them at Warped Tour in 2005 and enjoyed the experience. Anyone know their booking agent and can find out if it is a possibility?

Fall Out Boy haters unite! I'm still trying to understand the Coachella cool vs burn-a-mule criteria:

a) Is it anti-pop music? No, witness Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Bjork as headliners.
b) Is it a Pitchfork 7.2 or higher rating? Obviously not.
c) Is it some arbitrary zeitgeist that sways in the wind like a flag on a windy Chicago day? Ding, ding, ding! I think I found a winner.

Sorry for insulting anyone's intelligence for mentioning a trendy pop-punk band at a Southern California music festival. What could I have been thinking?

maybe because they're this MTV soaked pop-"punk" band and would draw the wrong kind of crowd to coachella. Fallout Boy also are not very unique. They're one of a long line of shitty pop-"punk" bands. Almost every act that does coachella, even in the dance tent, are unique in some way.

The wrong kind of crowd? Talk about a slippery slope counter point. Next thing you know, GV will have to hire door men to make sure you're the "right kind of crowd". LOL. Your last line is also a gross overstatement - GV doesn't always pick em right.

Fall Out Boy stole their sound and image from post-hardcore/punk bands like Lifetime, Texas is the Reason, Gameface, Bouncing Souls, etc. Then they wrote cheesy emo lyrics about crap, got a stylist and added lighter and poppier choruses.

This band represents everything that sucks in music...seriously...

Well - you are so very wrong. No opinion needed. They belong to most horrid piece of shit music scene ever created, and I'm including Euro-trash-country-techno in this assessment, yes, they are worse than those idiots who did Cotton-Eyed Joe.

Them, MCR, All American Rejects, Panic at the shitco, Yellowcard, Hawthorn Heights,...

They are shit, shit that's eating some shit, while taking a shit and becoming even more shit, it really is amazing. Them not fitting in with Coachella has nothing to do with "cooler scene and a holier than thou" attitude you are alluding to. Coachella trys to pick artists, not just bands. Artists with talent that have something to offer, your boys in designer eyeliner have nothing to offer, other than the uber helpful advise on where to buy expensive jeans and hair product.

One day your will realize I speak the truth, C DUB has spoken words of wisdom, he has given you pearls here, you should listen. Today's Fall Out boy were yesterday's New Kids On the Block. Get some musical taste bub, you'll thank me later, when you get into 8th grade maybe.

One day, I was walking down the street. It was a warm, sunny day. Simply beautiful. When all of a sudden, I heard something in the distance...

It was the upmost ear-screeching sound that gives me chills everytime I hear it. I thought at first it might be the combination of a 7-year old french girl screaming as she is raped, an innocent puppy crying as he dies of a gunshot wound, nails scratching against a chalkboard, and many other horrific sounds.

But I was wrong - I ran into the distance, and saw that it was a small boom-box playing a terrifying mix of Fall Out Boy, MCR, Underoath, Relient K, and Story of the Year.

Now that, my friends, was scary.

Okay,

This is my first post so bear with me. You are all endlessly complaining about how shitty fall-out boy is, which is understandable, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I'm kind of on the fence with FOB. I don't like em but I don't hate them, even though I can't stand the EMO bullshit (OH GOD I'M SO EMPTY INSIDE, I HOPE THIS EMPTINESS CAN FILL MY RICE KRISPIES WITH MILK THIS MORNING)...

Everyone here has to remember how bad music was even 3 years ago.

Lets reminisce...

Flipping through the radio, naturally you'll hit nothing but top-40 garbage, however back then it was exponentially worse than it is now:

nickelback
three doors down
seether
creed

the list goes on and on...think of who you would rather have. I understand FOB is a bunch of posers, with they're make-up and the douchebag tattooed arm guy who dates nicole richie; however, they are still worlds better than what they could be.

Exactly MrSheen! If you don't like a band, don't buy their record or go to their concert. Ripping on a band doesn't make you cooler, despite how witty you think you are.

BTW, it's why I didn't go to Coachella last year - I don't like Tool, Kanye West, or Madonna.

We flame Fall Out Boy because we can, sometimes it's funny, and it's nice to share similar opinions once in a while. Don't take it personally, and if you're tired of reading all of it...then don't read it :)

Then again I like Panic!, I like them a hell of alot more than I like Fall Out Boy (who are talentless), it's just asking for trouble to bring up a group like them on a forum like this, not because you'll only get pops for mentioning Underworld, Boards of Canada, and Portishead in size 36 all caps and nothing else, but because you're either encouring people to chide you or expecting the kind of reaction that will just never, ever come... Sorry.

That being said, pop-punk/emo bands just really aren't festival bands, they don't cater to a huge cult audience (they cater to a huge audience, but generally not the type that can afford to go to said festivals, per se), they may put a spin or two on something and be slightly original, but they're the mode right now. Basically, what I'm trying to say here is, if FOB were added to the Coachella bill, great, but I hope something I actually want to see is playing at the same time. If not, I'd witness Patrick Stump being leveled by Coachella-goers' feces. Just saying.

Them, MCR, All American Rejects, Panic at the shitco, Yellowcard, Hawthorn Heights,...

That's awesome; you've just named some of the leading bands for the downfall of Western civilization. They really are unoriginal, with ridiculous lyrics (for the most part). I like certain "pop" music (more like Brit-pop, i.e. Blur Modern Life era, early Oasis, etc..), but their's enters into that bullshit, MTV, 14 year-old kid loving music. It's pretty despicable.

But, I will say this...it would suck to have them at Coachella, but, if by some act of nature they did show up, it would just leave one less conflict. I would still keep my ticket and ignore the port-o-potties for 45 minutes, where they would be playing. :)

I suppose it goes about how you classify things, and I for one don't toss Green Day in with the same lot.

Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, ...The Academy Is, My Chemical Romance, Yellowcard - Pretty Damn Emo/Pop-Punk

Green Day, The Offspring, Blink 182 - Old Emo/Pop-Punk, but not as old as The Cure

It's funny that Coachella festival goers, at least the ones who post here, can't get it through their fucking heads that just because a band is playing, doesn't mean that you have to listen to them. You hate FOB so much, DON'T WATCH THEM PLAY when they take the stage. Don't like Jack's Mannequin? DON'T WATCH THEM PLAY when they take the stage. Etc.

It's not that simple, mister $250 camping tickets. A shit band like Fall Out Boy would probably have second billing, a slot that is supposed to go to reunions like Pixies, The Stooges, Bauhaus, or bands that are actually good like Arcade Fire.

What makes paying $100 a day for festival entry forgivable is adding up what it would cost to see each band seen individually. And it should be less to go to Coachella, which is less likely to happen with a shit headlineror second-billed act that only mindless MTV-drone 16 year old girls enjoy like Fall Out Boy.

And that's another thing, Fall Out Boy fans aren't old enough to go to Coachella. How many parents are going to let their children go out in the desert unsupervised to a music festival full of drugs and fun?

Its demonized because it's sad that such a horrible band can be so popular that we have to see them everywhere we turn: verizon commercials, magazine covers, etc. yes, we have to deal with looking at those fags on every magazine on the shelf and every time we turn on the tv.

and yes, its only this way because a lot of people like them. the problem is that most of those people are kids. it is a fact that most kids dont know shit. they like almost anything that is put in front of them (which in this case is what they see on mtv) because they dont know any better. they dont know what real music has to offer.

example: i saw "howard the duck" when i was a little kid and thought it was awesome. now that i am more experienced in what cinema can offer, i realize that that movie is a big ball of steaming shit. Does anybody besides George Lucas and some little kid disagree with me? I seriously doubt it. and if howard the duck got as much praise as FOB, I'm sure everybody in the movie industry would be a little annoyed too.

the fact that this so called genre has "punk" in the name is a giant insult to punk music.

dont worry, like all bad music, it is a phase that will eventually pass. when it is done, you will look back and be embarrassed that you were defending fall out girl. just like people who used to wear those mc hammer pants. pop-punk, just like boy bands, and all the other crappy pop music that has come and gone, will dissapear and nobody will notice.

bands like led zeppelin, the beatles, or radiohead, who actually put out quality music will be remembered for being great, talented bands, not for being a passing fad. their albums will be handed down from parent to child, or from older sibling to younger sibling, and they will be talked about by generations to come for making music that mattered.

im predicting that in 15 years, the only time somebody will be mentioning fall out girl will be on some vh1 show about embarrassing fads of the past, squished between kris kross and n sync. shit, i bet you dont even know what im talking about since you were probably 3 years old when kris kross had the same mtv crowd (sheep) wearing their clothes backwards.

You think Radiohead hasn't had the ability to do that? They don't sell themselves out to make the most money, they play because they are superior artists who will be remembered for their uniqueness and brilliance. I know that Tool turned down a 15 million dollar endorsment deal for Pepsi because they were dedicated to message and not to the money. Any band can read lyrics written by a major record label and call it music, but it's when the artists don't cater to the impressionable and write and compose deep and outstanding works by THEMSELVES do they last on past their careers. Fall out boy will be expended like a used condom into MTV's bottomless trashcan and will only be remember for how many records they sold, not their music. And yes we are subjective in this forum, but buck up sweety, your defending the poster child of commercialism.

P.S. A little factoid, the vocalist of F.O.B. wasn't as "attractive" as their Guitarist, so they put the guitarist up front to attract all the little teeny-bopper girls and boost ratings.

I never wanted FOB to play at coachella, they would obviously not fit in with the kind of music that coachella is all about. But uniqueness does not equal amazing music. And as for talent, i beleive they do have it, you obviously do not feel that way, but its my opinion that they have innovative and well choreographed music. Their chord progression and melodies are quite different than any other "pop-punk" band around and their lyrics, although trite and cliche, are far from being written by a record company. All lyrics do not have to be deeply profound. On a summer day when im on my way to the beach i dont exactly want to be listening to radiohead or the arcade fire. Its fast and upbeat and i like that. congratulations, you read 200 words and missed the whole point. i dont hate them cuz they are commercial whores. i hate them cuz their music sucks. i dont hate bands just cuz they are successful or sellouts. yes, there are plenty of elitist music snobs on this board that do, but i dont give a shit if a band is popular or not. i like plenty of bands that sell their songs or get endorsements or whatever. i dont quite respect them as much as bands who arent sell outs, but still, i dont base my musical opinion of them on their need to have more money.

oh, and if you might remember, the beatles were also a pop-culture phenomenon whos fans were almost ALL teenage girls.....

yea, and they sucked during that time. i dont like the beatles early stuff when they made bubble gum songs for the girls like "i wanna hold your hand". gimme a fuckin break. you think the beatles would be as legendary of a band if they hadnt started experimenting with drugs and making creative music? i doubt it.

and the beatles had a giant fanbase of all ages. fallout girl does not. my point of the teenage girls argument was that if they were really talented, they would be liked by all demographics, like radiohead. i know young kids that like radiohead, my parents like radiohead. only teenage girls like fallout girl.

"you fucking idiot.." you really know how to close out your arguments, dont you...the depth of your writing is equivalent to a fall out girl song.

yes, you're right, they wouldnt fit, cuz coachlla is about GOOD music...artistically credible music. if you want fast and upbeat, there are plenty of other bands you can listen to that have more talent in their chodes than fall out girl have in their whole bodies.

i dont think you know what the adjectives you are using really mean:

innovative? its anything but. its a carbon copy of every other pop punk band that is riding the wave that blink-182 created. they all look and sound the same. it really is sad. no originality or creativity.

well choreographed? they dance too? i hope they are better dancers than song writers.

Fall out Boy are not the most original pop band, but they certainly aren't an American Idol-created phenomonen or some transparent fabrication like O-town.

They write their own songs. They play their own instruments. They paid their dues by doing van tours and playing Knights of Columbus halls.

Considering these guys are as Average Joe looking as they come, I have no idea why any of them would be considered Tiger Beat pin-up material. As Patrick Stump said in Rolling Stone, "I'm fat, why would anyone say I'm boy band material?"

Wentz writes very ironic, tongue-in-cheek stuff, which to the band's detractors comes across as smarmy, sugar-coated "emo" crap. Atleast he didn't have the Matrix write it for him!

I agree that the band is being overplayed and over-commercialized to their detriment. The music industry is all about the bottom-line - Fall out Boy is a meal ticket for Island records right now and they will ride their popularity till its dried up and they are forgotten.

As psychic friend pointed out early in the thread, Fall out Boy skew too young for Coachella and they are doing their own tour, so they won't be at the festival. But I am not ashamed to say I enjoy Under a Cork Tree and Infinity on High. You jaded cynics need to take the rhetoric down 10 notches and quit hating.

My problem with Fall Out Boy and other artists of the same genre as that their music all sounds the same. I cant pick out the difference between them and all of the other popular MTV pop/punk/emo bands that do draw a fanbase of high school freshmen and middle schoolers.

And yes - people who are in middle school will do whatever is popular. If MTV plays Fall Out Boy, kids will listen to it and like it. Don't argue, it's a fact. For instance, i'm into dance/electronic music. Whenever I throw on a tune by The Chemical Brothers or someone else, all they say is "eww what the hell are we listening to", and hearing that drove me crazy; like the garbage you listen to on MUSE is more creative?

Face it, it's an American way. Reject international or talented music, and listen to whatever is on MTV. I too was a brainwashed kid at one point, but then I opened my mind, and listened to other artists who had something real to offer. And then I look back at what I used to listen to, and I laugh at it.

Here is the main idea of what we're trying to say here: We dont like Fall Out Boy because they aren't original. Their style of music is pretty much recycled from every band that is popular to ignorant middle schoolers.

Every artist at Coachella is unique/original in their own way, that's why they are here.

just my 2 cents

They write their own songs. They play their own instruments. They paid their dues by doing van tours and playing Knights of Columbus halls.

Wentz writes very ironic, tongue-in-cheek stuff,

.

I agree with you on this which is why for the most point I don't really bash anybody. Some bands suck at life so bad but I don't think F.O.B. is one of those bands even if I'm not a fan, I'll respect that they're making music that people like.
There is one thing though that absolutely does drive me crazy about them. I saw them perform on SNL once and Jimmy Kimmel and their guitar and bass players jump around like fucking retards on coke. Its horrible to watch, I had to turn away.

FOB's theatrics can be overdone. But it fits the kind of music they play. I love the Jesus and Mary Chain, but wait till you see their stage antics. Mummy-like might be an overstatement.

And regarding The Chemical Brothers comment from above, I love their sound and own three of their albums, but they sold out big time by allowing their song "Galvanize" to be used by the evil Anheiser Busch company to pimp shitty Budweiser beer. And don't get me started on other electronic acts that sell their songs for corporate abuse (Moby!).

Fall out Boy may be may least favorite band ever....or most hated. They are commercial crap that is shovede down the throats of teenagers by MTV. I don't hate them cuz they are popular, there are plenty of horrible bands that are huge (i.e. CREED), but this is a new low for pop music it is shallow meaningless and completely unoriginal.

To take a little from airguitarvet

Worst Band Ever.

My problem with Fall Out Boy and other artists of the same genre as that their music all sounds the same. I cant pick out the difference between them and all of the other popular MTV pop/punk/emo bands that do draw a fanbase of high school freshmen and middle schoolers.

Dude, I've been listening to so much indie shite of late that sounds so much more monotonous than any 'emo' music. I am really trying to have a greater appreciation of the music that so many people on this board worship and I just find it crap! It might be clever as all hell, but what's the point if I am in no way entertained. I'm sure these are great bands and artists but they're not doing it for me - Not their fault, or their fan's fault but you don't see me jumping up and down about how shit they are!...

Bottom line 'Fall out boy' though a band who is very good at what they do, should NOT be at Coachella! Not because they suck and as you said Coachella is about unique artists (Fall out boy would certainly be unique along side the other acts here). They won't be there for teh same reason the good the bad and the queen won't be at the next Vans.

The video for 'Cry me a river' was possibly the best 'go fuck yourself' to your ex video ever made.
Being that rock and alternative is my personal taste I don't listen to JT but if you can't admit how good he is then you sound completely ignorant to other kinds of music. He has as much if not more musical talent than almost every band at coachella.

Underworld
The Chemical Brothers
