Oh come on now, Vulnerable wasn't thaaat bad. It grew on me a lot. It's tough to please folks when your debut is a masterpiece.

The new song sounds like were getting the gritty paranoid Tricky back...which is def a good thing.

:bump

went to see Tricky in Dallas the other night and he did not dissapoint, seeming completely reinvigorated and playing for more than two hours including an amazing extended version of "Vent". It was by far the best Tricky show that I've seen. The female vocalist did a great job with her parts as well.

During the last song, he jumped down off the stage and ended up walking all around the venue signing autographs, taking pictures and talking with fans..even walking out to the patio on the street...very cool to get to meet Tricky.

he'll be at SXSW the next couple of days and then the West coast next week, so go see him.

this is one of those cases where I just don't get the attraction. I have never heard a tricky song, but went to the show the other night. Extremely underwhelmed. He sings in half the songs, and you usually only hear murmurs from him unless he's yelling into the mic which hardly happened. So basically it was a backing band with very very very soft vocals that I had no way to really listen to. It didn't feel like trip - hop at all, it was more of a fusion jazz show. 1 of 4 stars.

He sure acts like he's the second coming though. He constantly puts his fist in the air and looks away from the crowd like he's getting ready for a boxing match. then he closes his eyes, clenches the mic like it's going to fly out of his hands, and whispers.

I've been a solid Tricky fan for some years, but he is just one of those artists I never got around to seeing. I just came upon free tickets to his show tomorrow at the House of Blues in Anaheim.
How is this guy's performance (yes I read Garrett's take on it, but I'd rather hear a review from someone who had actually heard of Tricky prior to the show)
Also, I imagine his set will be mostly comprised of Knowle West Boy?

Garrett is spot on.

Not at all.

Seriously. I know tricky very well, going back to his Massive days. I've seen him a handful of times as well. Some good - some downright awful.

His recent Knowles tour shows have also been very hit or miss... it all depends how much weed he smokes. Too much for him is a bad thing, although he thinks differently. His setlists are always improved from a group of tunes he picks out right before the show, he says he gets a vibe and decides what to play as the show goes on, he'll play 90% of a printed setlist.

(from SF) he didn't play veronica or school gates.

Awesome man, thanks for the info. I'm still looking forward to this, but at least my expectations won't ruin it for me, I'll be going into it knowing full well what you said.
