E
I went yesterday. I'm waiting for the antibiotics to kick in. That's why I didn't post yesterday. I had to take my dog to the vet for digestion problems, and I had to take myself to the doctor for ear problems.
And on a different note, while I was at the doctor, somebody reported to animal control that my dogs were barking "24 hours a day" (not true), so animal control left a note on my door. My basset hound does bark very loudly if I leave him outside for ANY length of time, so I usually bring him in on the first bark and he's quiet in his kennel. However, my new little Shih Tzu has taken to high-pitched barking when we leave him in his kennel, so I'm not sure which dog the neighbor complained about. *sigh*

You should listen to Odessey and Oracle. It's one of their two albums, and it's a classic of 60s pop. It has really awesome, intricate melodies and some really great arrangements.
There are so many people on here who know their shit when it comes to music. I'm constantly learning and expanding horizons. I credit the board with getting me into Elephant 6, Soul, Funk and Electronic Dance Music, and expanding my Jazz horizons.

i have been told repeatedly that this song is about young illicit gay puerto rican love. can this be true? discuss.
not that there's anything WRONG with that of course. some of my best friends are young illicit gay puerto ricans.
speaking of disclaimers, exactly when do we reach the tipping point with the gay thing? i mean as mass critical consensus. no one actually still says "some of my best friends are black". do they?
Courtney
03-05-2007, 04:08 PM
I've heard that, but I haven't really given it much thought. The song is catchy, it has a good hook, but I'm not looking for any sort of deep meaning in it.

Right now I'm listening to the closing credits of "Syriana", which I just finished watching. Haunting stuff...
Vincent Gallo
03-07-2007, 12:56 AM
The movie was too complicated. It took me two times through to even understand most of the plot, but I'm still not sure that I got everything.
I don't remember what the score was like.

03-07-2007, 12:59 AM
Yes, the different subplots make it difficult to fully comprehend on first watch. I assure you it gets profoundly better with each viewing. Then again, certain people that have cinematic tastes that i respect actually hate it. They find it too convoluted and indulgent.
Vincent Gallo
03-07-2007, 01:03 AM
Obscurity for the sake of obscurity annoys me.
If you consider a film like Memento or most stuff by David Lynch, it's difficult to understand, but there's a reason for that level of complexity. For Syriana, it could have gotten across the exact same message without being nearly so incomprehensible. I think that's obnoxious.
Vincent Gallo
03-07-2007, 01:05 AM
Anyway, why does there have to be a plot at all? I'm all about the dead air time and empty footage.
See: The Brown Bunny.

Their set was actually fairly free from sound problems. And they owned. So hard. No other set that day could stand up to them. No one was even close.

I don't know about that. Didn't Bill Doss' microphone stop working for like an entire verse? Also the Sleater-Kinney set was pretty tight.
Let's fight about it.
