Just finally downloaded it, now kicking myself for sleeping on it for these couple weeks. This shit is fantastic. God I love Dangermouse's cock.

probably not.

Pretty much every album you do end up claiming as the contenders at the end of the year are going to be 90 percent irredeemable tripe, Jared.

Randy, I do agree that the CD kicks ass. It's sick as hell, but top 10 sounds about right not top 3.

Fuck that. Good soul music is rarer than happy Native Americans. It gets automatic extra credit.

I like it, but St. Elsewhere is definately much better.

AGREED, top 5 of 2006. It was so original and fresh.

I actually never got too into most of St. Elsewhere. I may have to go back and listen to it all again, but only the singles seemed to interest me at the time. But with this one, by the time it gets to Going On I'm fucking amped and bending over for them.

The first time I heard Go-Go Gadget Gospel, I was hooked. There are no songs on The Odd Couple that grab me like Go-Go Gadget Gospel. Also, there are no tracks I skip on St. Elsewhere. On the Odd Couple I always skip Would Be Killer and No Time Soon, and I also usually skip Whatever. Don't get me wrong, I still really like the album. It's just... it's simply not as good as St. Elsewhere.
Going On, Run, Blind Mary and Neighbours are my favorite songs off of The Odd Couple.

This album is great. It doesn't come out and grab you by the balls, like Go-Go Gadget Gospel did on the first record, nor is it as eclectic, but it is still a damn good album. I like that they have a consistent sound and vibe on this record; St. Elsewhere is schizophrenic at times.

You said it. The album is good, but not as awesome as the first one. I don't know if this even makes it to the top 10. Maybe top 25.

i've never been able to listen to that song all the way through. i just hate it. the rest of the album is A-okay in my book.

i'm gonna listen to the new one now.

Jamie Lidell is NOT real soul.

yes. Lidell is. and this coming from one of the biggest critics of blue eyed soul.

now that's a good one, check out the track "Wait for Me".

Okay, so I went back and listened to St. Elsewhere, and you're all fucking nuts. This is way, way better than that. It's at least 70 percent really good tracks, which makes it a lock for top five of the year unless this turns out to be an unprecedentedly good year.

Charity Case
Who's Gonna Save My Soul (really great lyrics for my taste)
Going On
Run
Whatever
Surprise
No Time Soon
Blind Mary
Neighbors
and A Little Better is a perfect closer. The album's solid, and the world needs more of this.

So far the top three is MGMT, this, and Third (expecting the mastered release to be reasonably more incredible).

The thing that makes Gnarls Barkley so great is the fact that Cee-lo really is a pretty neurotic mess isn't he? and combine that with Danger Mouse's production and wow.

The Odd Couple may have 70% good tracks, but St. Elsewhere has 100% good tracks.

St. Elsewhere was a jumbled mess of tracks (which really was part of its charm) because each song kind of caught you by surprise, but I really do like the Odd Couple's darker tone.

Also, if Jamie Lidell's new album are the tracks on his myspace, you've annoyed the shit out of me yet again, Jared. Way to counter an awesome RnB, pop, soul album with a nerdy white boy's attempt at being Al Green. Goddammit, I knew it would have to suck since you recommended it--why do I bother?

rage patton

I just miss tracks like Go-Go Gaget Gospel and Transformer. I also really like the darker tracks on St. Elsewhere like Just a Thought and Necromancer. Next to Go-Go, I think Just A Thought may be my favorite Gnarls Barkley track. I also like how chaotic St. Elsewhere is. The Odd Couple is just, not as up beat and attention grabbing as St. Elsewhere. As I said, I do like the album. Just not as much as I would have hoped.

I can't be interested in even half of St. Elsewhere. You're all nuts. But no more arguing by me, I'm staying out of this.

You are the first person I have ever heard say they don't like Jamie Lidell. I mean, I don't love him, but I figured you would dig it... There's more soul in one bar of his songs than I have in a decade.

i really loved "St. Elsewhere", so that is why my disappointment with "The Odd Couple" hurts even more. other than "Run", "Who's Gonna Save My Soul" and "Open Book"(hot damn!), the rest of the album just floats by without leaving that much of an imprint.

This album blows St. Elsewhere away, you're all insane.

St Elsewhere is classic! No filler on that album (except Fung Shui (sp?)...i tend to skip that song most of the time).

But The Odd Couple has grown on me ALOT.

I have been playing "GOING ON" so many times the past few days. I love the video too.
Song of the year so far!

I like Gnarls Barkley, but I only really liked about half of St. Elsewhere. They were awesome at Coachella though.

Also, I think Jamie Lidell is better. I saw him in Austin once at the Parish with Four Tet and Koushik and it was pretty awesome except for some major sound problems. Jamie Lidell was able to make it work. Four Tet not so much.

a lot of BS comes out of your mouth, I mean A LOT, where I cant even pretend to agree with you :)
