Floyd was creative and original and time has taught us that Zeppelin was not very creative and original. I also prefer the music lyrics and guitars but that is all subjective so to keep it real. Floyds work was always Floyds work. Zeppelin's work caused them to be sued later in their career and ultimately lost writing credits and such for many of their big tunes.

Floyd wins.

Floyd have better epic songs...but Led Zepp can sure rock out.... tie... or perhaps slighty Floyd has the upper hand.

I don't ordinarily have any difficulty voting in polls like this, but I think both these bands are amazing. Both kicked off with some of their best work, had good runs of several incredible albums in a row, then disappointed me by going on too long (Pink Floyd's The Wall is one of my all-time least favorite albums, while Led Zeppelin's In Through the Out Door has two songs I can listen to without wanting to shove pencils through my eardrums).

I don't mind that Led Zeppelin were derivative (or less graciously, thieves). Likewise, I don't hold the popular opinion that Pink Floyd's only valid work was done with Syd Barrett.

That's a really tough choice. I voted for Pink Floyd, because they are such a big part of my childhood memories. As was Led Zeppelin, but Floyd seemed to have more of an impact on me. Although seeing Zeppelin live in their day would have been incredible.

, I don't hold the popular opinion that Pink Floyd's only valid work was done with Syd Barrett.

That's a popular opinion? I thought the opinion was simply Barrett's impact on all the future work from an inspired standpoint. There are people would really take the first two floyd albums over the entire rest of the catalog?

I certainly don't think those audiofiles are in the majority otherwise the Wall and Dark Side wouldn't be two of the best selling albums of all time.

That was really hard. I went with Floyd but it was tough

they are so different.

but obviously its the floyd. i can listen to pink floyd any time, anywhere, in any mood and its always a satisfying selection. i always love listening to zeppelin but i have to be in the right state of mind to even consider putting it on.

I hear it all the time. It's similar to people retroactively loving Revolver, but saying Sgt. Pepper was shit. I don't happen to agree with any of the opinions, whether they're legitimate or herd mentality.

being a drummer. zeppelin by a fucking milestone. floyd never hit me. floyd. zeppelin will always be my favorite classic rock band. the social stigma surrounding floyd has always put me off about them.

thelastgreatman
04-06-2008, 04:55 PM
What social stigma? Huh? And what assholes seriously claim Barrett's Floyd was the better era? Where all these douchebags so I can snuff them?

Zeppelin did completely steal their first album. I agree with the drumming point though--Bonham can't be denied. It's Floyd all the way, though. I even actually prefer Gilmour's singing to Plant. Zeppelin never did it for me the way it does for a lot of people.

Also, people who claim Revolver is the best Beatles album are fucking assholes. I hate that shit. It's not even their second best non-Sgt album, for fuck's sake.

NoizeSelektor
04-06-2008, 05:32 PM
the stigma i mention might be a bit personal but i have witnessed it and experienced it. i had known pink floyds work before their music. visually and bits of songs. and the whole "change your life" music thing and visually amazing "trippy" stuff. it just always put me off about it. seemed to me really cheesy. when i had finally decided to listen to it i was to say the least incredibly underwhelmed. now let me say its not that i dont like them they're good SONG writers but in comparison to musical skill they're nowhere close to zeppelin. dif styles granted. but still. floyd was to me was like hearing about a bad ass movie (300) and watching it way later after all the hype and realize it kinda sucks.
