I saw NIN at The Forum. Not a good venue.

In any case, I'm waiting for an AZ date (or a couple AZ dates!) which will hopefully be in the fall.

amyzzz

Me too, but Red Rocks is the day after Labor Day, which there is not Earthly way I could get off work (unless my union was on strike, in which case I could not afford to go anyway).

No! Not happy about the Forum, but it's much better than the Nokia. I'd kind of like to actually see the show, and not the back of someone's head. Unlesss you're in a front row of a section, the Nokia kind of sucks. I will not see any shows there again most likely.

Hmm. Them playing Virgin Festival in Baltimore just became more likely. There are no tourdates for Baltimore or DC, and there is a gap in their schedule for Aug 9 and 10th. also, they will be on the east coast then. Seems likely if you ask me.

I would never have thought that I would have ever seen Peter Murphy riding Peaches on stage, let alone Peter singing Dead Souls w/ Trent.

I bet anything that Serj Tankian will be the opener. I know his myspace says he is playing Pemberton July 26th. But I don't believe it.

suprefan
03-28-2008, 12:31 AM
Trent picks acts he likes at the moment. I doubt he is going to pick Serj to open for him. Look at the list of openers in the past 3 years.

Dresden Dolls
Queens of The stone Age
Autolux
TV On The Radio
Death From Above 1979
Moving Units
Saul Williams
Peaches
Bauhuas
Ladytron

Take a deep breath, they're adding dates.

Supre, I know you're set in believing Radiohead is playing Lolla on Friday (and subsequently NIN on Sunday) but I still think it might be vice versa. Either way, it makes me happy to see tour dates that all but confirm them for Lolla. Playing to a huge outdoor crowd is something I always hoped to see NIN do,

I'm confident they'll add a Tucson date, I just hope they keep it this time. In 2005, they canceled the Tucson show (I think the drummer OD'd or something) but still made it to Phoenix the following night. WTF?

I think he is backpedaling a bit on this, Im guessing Allesandro is staying because he worked on Ghosts and hopefully he ropes Josh Freese back into this. Jeordie is out cause he is with Manson again. Whoever replaces Aaron North better be a badass. What reason woudl he be playing arenas if it was going to be like ''stripped down'' and everything? I hope this next production is on the level of the last.

I wonder if there will be a new proper album between now and when the tour starts. I can't see them touring in support of Ghosts... and Year Zero has been out for quite a while now, even though they haven't played any U.S. shows in support of it.

They will all have access to ticket pre sales and whatnot. This is lame, why did I pay for this for 2 years and now its gone? I wanted one last time to see if a meet and greet or soundcheck happend.

Alright update on pre sales, they are coming within the next week. More info on whats happening to prevent scalpers from getting the good tickets and whatnot.

Presales for the upcoming tour are about to begin. Presales for the Lexington, KY show will open on Wednesday, with many more shows starting up early next week. We've been working very hard to get the best tickets in the hands of the fans, bypassing scalpers, ticket resellers, and ticketing agencies... This has been a difficult process to bring together outside of The Spiral, and frankly, it's a work in progress. The presale system you'll be using for this tour does everything we set out to do, but as of right now ticket purchasing requires a few more steps than we'd prefer. You can expect a more streamlined system for future tours, but for now, here's what to expect:

First, you'll need to be a nin.com member to access presales. If you haven't already, register for free at remix.nin.com (click "register" once you're at the site), or log in with your Spiral username/password (Spiral members: If you've changed your Spiral password since November 2007, you may need to use your old password to login).

Then, subscribe to the news feed, or keep an eye on nin.com for presale announcements. The first announcement, regarding the Lexington show, will go up tomorrow.

When you purchase presale tickets, you'll need to enter your legal name exactly as it appears on your identification. When you arrive at the show, there will be a designated entrance for nin.com presale ticket holders. Present your ID at the entrance and you'll receive your personalized ticket, which will have your name on it (no tickets will be sent out in advance). You'll then have to enter the venue immediately. This process is an effort to ensure that our presale tickets are purchased only by fans who are attending the show, and are useless to scalpers and ticket brokers.

More specific presale information will be posted tomorrow and in the coming days.

P.S. - purchasing presale tickets from nin.com will generally be less expensive than from public outlets.

Nice, Deerhunter for L.A. And I checked to see how the presale was being handle, and its Musictoday. Not totally suprised since they did the last presales for fan club and stuff, just in a different manner. Lets hope the L.A. date goes on sale next week and not when Im in Texas.

They need to figure out some way to pay the bills once the Sonics bail for OK.

All tickets will be cheaper through nin.com vs. Ticketmaster, per Trent. However, the Detroit show is advertised as topping out at $89.50, so it'll be interesting to see how much cheaper nin.com/musictoday will be.

First of all I must say that Trent Reznor is one of my musical Heroes, but in saying that, FUCK TRENT.

Not only did he wait forevor to give us California dates, but this motherfucker is playing at one of the most herrendous venues in southern Cali, and with all the awesome opening bands he has for the tour, we get FUCKING DEERHUNTER? I want to vomit in my socks.

Pretty much, Trent said it was just them seeing what they would come up with on the fly. You cant really slam somebody so badly for just trying out stuff, and a lot feels unfinished, which it is... I want to see their rehearsal videos, which should be coming soon.

Justin Meldal-Johnsen joining NIN is great news. Recorded and toured with Beck for many years. I wonder why he is no longer in Beck's touring band.

Some tour news.

With his longtime graphics co-conspirator, Rob Sheridan, at his side and an e-mail memo on his Mac laptop screen, Mr. Reznor went through a prospective set list, song by song, with Moment Factory, explaining where three giant video screens would be and which disorienting effects he wanted from the programmers and hardware makers — like being able to move a video frame across a musician that also changed the sound of his guitar. “What I’m trying to do is use the stage as an interactive instrument,” Mr. Reznor said. “I’m in the world of science fiction now.”

A private dress rehearsal was last night at the Forum and was apparently a mammoth, must-have-been-seen-to-be-believed 30-song set:

Part 1:
999,999
1,000,000
Letting You
Discipline
March of the Pigs
Head Down
The Frail
The Wretched
Closer
Gave Up

Part 2:
The Warning
The Great Destroyer
1 Ghosts I
6 Ghosts I
Piggy
24 Ghosts III
The Greater Good

Part 3:
Pinion
Wish
Terrible Lie
The Big Come Down
Survivalism
31 Ghosts IV
Only
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like A Hole

Part 4:
Echoplex
The Good Soldier
The Beginning of the End
Hurt
--------------------

Fan account:
"Section A had minimal light stuff.
Discipline was a bit of a disappointment. Guitar didn't sound right and Justin's vocals made me laugh.

Section B was the good stuff
Warning and great destroyer was everyone minus Freese in front of the front cage
When the cage came up for the ghosts stuff, Freese was in the middle.
Finck to his right with a flute, Justin with a big stand up bass to his left. Trent off to the right with a large xylophone, Alessandro to the far left.
Visuals on the Ghosts stuff were utterly amazing. Rain effects and lots of stuff I cant describe or remember properly.
Ukelele on Piggy
Greater Good had an effect that reminded me of that new Radiohead video.

Section C was very intense lighting.
Roadie came out and cleaned the screen with a flashlight before Pinion
Big Come Down had those dangling lights inside both cages.
Survivalism had video screens in the back. Top left had a crowd cam.
Only has a new intro.

Section D
Think of the beginning of the reheasal video for echoplex. Then think a lot bigger, or think of wheel of fortune.
I think it was on good soldier, Trent tries to sing and play tamborine and play xylophone at the same time. He said afterward he apologized for not practicing and having a silly look on his face."

edit: description of the light show, and I guess they had a scavenger hunt to even get tickets to this thing.

The stage.

In the back is a wall of rotating lights. 7 squares of 4x4 lights. This thing goes up and down.
Behind it is a large video screen.

There's also 2 video cages. A front cage that curves and a rear cage that curves so they make like an oval.
They both go up and down.
Between the cages were these dangling lights.

Someone at ETS said there were only about 1000 people there, all friends/family of the band, contest winners and invites from the Google Earth scavenger hunt.

I for one would be just fine with a setlist made up of mostly Year Zero, Ghosts, and The Slip, being that he's released ALL of those things since his last U.S. tour. Not really too concerned with 'rare' stuff, though now that Robin's back in the band, maybe there's a better chance of older stuff somewhere down the line. But I'd really much rather have a special front to back performance of The Downward Spiral in its entirety than getting the same few songs from it every night.

Trent's always been more about putting on a production and working on giving a reliably kickass show every night, opposed to seeing how many different songs he can churn out on tour. His tours have never been a letdown in that regard and it's looking like this one will just continue to break the mold. Very interested in seeing what this stage setup is all about.

I don't really consider The fragile that obscure. It was the title track of one of his most popular albums. I've never seen them live though, so anything will be a great set. I do NEED to see Every Day is exactly the same though. One of my favorites ever.

Do, its not that amazing of a song live, you missed them playing it every night on the 2006 summer tour. And since you havent seen them live, stop making requests like its a long time ago.

Yeah I wish I was in on that google scavenger hunt. I guess pair of tickets ended up in a graveyard?

I would love to hear Reptile again, I thnk he played it 3 of the times I saw him. My fave suprise was ''Down In It'' at the Fresno show for the fall 2005 tour. Also at Fresno, the first show back he did ''Even Deeper'' everyone went nuts...

I saw NIN 4 times on the Downward Spiral tour. UIC Pavillion, twice at the Rosemont Horizon and The New World Music Theater with David Bowie.

I have not seen Trent since then. I had tickets to see him play the Marquee Theater in Phoenix. I paid $80 for 2. I was offered $550 and took the money. I don't regret it, the cash was needed.

Yeah, i'm as bad ass as Delta.

That is a pretty good setlist. It is missing some good songs... but what can ya do. I was really hoping to hear "We're In This Together" but what can ya do.

So what is with this light cage thing? Will it be at all of their shows this tour? Also, will they be doing the 4 part sets the whole tour and how long was the show?

apostle2
07-22-2008, 12:05 AM
Am I correct that they have never played "We're In This Together" on American soil? I think they played it like 4 times, all in Europe, and changed it around a lot.

suprefan
07-22-2008, 12:09 AM
No Josh, this was as stated a rehearsal. Tour production rehearsals like this happen for the main reason of seeing all possible songs that will be played on a tour and getting light and sound crew on the same page. They wont play 30 a night, like I had mentioned, cut 7 to 8 songs out and thats will be your set. and they shoudl have the full production the whole tour, there is no reason not to. It would be asking if Daft Punk is taking the Pyramid with them everywhere or not. Also, I mean, Radiohead did the same thing in Florida in May, so did they play 60 songs a night?

If the ''cage'' is what I think it is, it should look like this:

rage patton

07-23-2008, 12:32 PM
Its what they have worked on for the tour, the likelihood of you even getting any ''suprise'' is next to zero, you are the first show. Trent will be pretty straighforawrd and he will fiddle around a few shows in when hey get comfortable. And I think I know how that a,b,c, and d thing is going to affect the sets too. I am going to put together a list of songs I have seen, and you can see how much is missing from then to now in the course of 3 years.

Love Is Not Enough
You Know What You Are
March Of The Pigs
The Line Begins To Blur
Piggy
