I would be relitively interested to see all of these acts, some more than others, but impressive for a random festival in BC, kinda looks like they are going for a european festival kind of vibe.

WTF it is at the Tempe Beach Park? Welcome to the sunny shores of Tempe!

It's actually a pretty decent place to see a show. It's only a couple of blocks from downtown...go over the bridge and you're right at the edge of the lake. Manmade lake...and a freeway on the other side of it, but still a decent little park. Saw Jimmy Eat World there a few years back...The Killers opened.

It's a really good idea, but whoever's doing this isn't even trying. The Friday show is basically everyone on the MCR tour with Puddle Of Mudd showhorned in. Saturday is Fergie and a few local bands which have nothing in common with Fergie. What a joke. I hope people go though, maybe they can turn it into something that makes sense.

Considering The Edge radio station actually manages to put together a decent little one day fest every year with more/better acts at half the price, I can't imagine this thing will get much heat.

I really really want camping to be like Sasquatch where you have your car right there with you. Plus just the savings of paying per car would be stellar.

I'm assuming camping will be between $40 and $55 per night just based on Coachella and Sasquatch prices.

I'm eccstatic DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist will be there. Now I don't feel so bad about missing them at The Commodore.

paulb
03-13-2008, 10:27 PM
me too.

But, since there will be no single day passes for the concert...it for sure will just be a set price for Camping...like 100 bucks a car for the 3 days.... I think that would work out perfectly...

It said over 50 bands will play. As of right now, there are 43 bands. I say somewhere between 5-15 more acts are going to be anounced.
Since Ler is playing with Serj... I say why not invite Les Claypool and Tim Alexander up as well. I dunno. It's just a though. (Please!?)

APW has no more adds, tollet just stated that today in another story on Billboard. Its the ''Vegoose curse'', putting all the money in the headliners and then not investing more in the undercard. Not to say that its not worth it to go, but still.

Also, the official website says the festival will feature over 50 bands. Right now we have 42. So we are looking at around 10 more additions. Common Gogol and Primus!
Also, when is Gnarls Barkleys date at the hollywood bowl? Gnarls Barkley would put this line up over the top.

This is fucked up. Check out how the parking works for camping:

CAR PARKING
Long-term Parking (for Campers only)

* Min. 3 people per vehicle
* Price = $50.00 CDN plus service charges / vehicle (For 5 days - from Thursday, July 24 thru Monday, July 28)
* No refunds or exchanges / Rain or Shine
* FREE Parking if you have 4+ people per vehicle

No in/out privileges:
* Vehicles will only be permitted to leave and return in the case of an emergency.
* If you leave for non-emergency purposes you will forfeit your parking.
*Campers can use the Loop Shuttle to get to and from the Parking Lots, the Pemberton Village and the Festival Site.

So you're not allowed to park your car unless you have 3+ people in the car???

chiapet
03-14-2008, 12:09 PM
and you have to pay for parking on top of camping fees?

rage patton
03-14-2008, 12:13 PM
So if your car has 3 people... you have to pay $50? But if your car has 4 people... it's free? THAT is fucked up. It's all because they want to make it a "greener" festival and get everyone to carpool. The parking is kind of bullshit.

But check this out. Festival hours...

Festival Village
Opens at 11:00 AM and closes at 2:00 AM daily

B-Stage
Open from 2:00 PM through 7:15 PM daily

Main Stage
Open from 4:15 PM through 11:00 PM daily

Dance Tent
Open from 11:00 AM through 2:00 AM daily

So, there will be 3 hours of nothing but dance music before the B-stage starts. And then after the mainstage ends, there will be nothing but 3 more hours of dance music. Also, the dance tent will be 19+ only.

Also... Gnarls Barkley play the Hollywood Bowl July 27. I could see Gnarls Barkley playing Friday at Pemberton.

magmazing
03-14-2008, 12:21 PM
If you're renting a condo in a hotel, parking at the venue is $30 per day! Free if you have 4+ people in the car.

Some of these rules are just lame or just plain weird...
- RV noise curfew is 11pm - 7am (so basically we can't make noise from the minute we leave the concert each night? WTF?)

- Under the "Recommended items for teh festival site. "Cigarettes". (What? This festival is actually PROMOTING SMOKING! BWAHAHAHAHA)

I'm just most upset that the camping isn't Sasquatch style. I want my car and all my crap beside me and secure damn it!

But Gogol would make me extremely happy too.

Global Warming= BULLSHIT.

Somebody's got their head buried in the sand. Try this one on for size, have you heard of ocean acidification? This is the process of the world's oceans absorbing so much carbon (pollution) that it's ph levels start to kill off the phytoplankton, which make up the basic building blocks of the food chain (the world's fisheries are fore casted to collapse in 30-40 years). If that isn't bad enough, where do you think the majority of the world's oxygen production occurs...trees? Guess again, its phytoplankton. So we should totally put the blinders on and go for broke.

They have 14 dance acts. But I agree. For the first 3 hours, after gates open, there is only dance music. And after the headliners finish at 11, there is 3 more hours of dance music. 14 acts is hardly enough to sustain 15 hours of dance music a day, for a total of 45 hours of dance music. The top 3 billed electronic acts are Crytal Method, DJ Shadow + Cut Chemist and Booka Shade. Booka Shade seems to stand out to me, as not being as big as Crystal Method or DJ Shadow. I am thinking they add another "big"ish type electronic act. I don't know how big, but Im guessing one more is comming. In my dream world, it would be The Prodigy, as they have a two week gap in their schedule at the end of July and beginning of August. But that is just me dreaming...

ITEMS RECOMMENDED FOR THE FESTIVAL SITE

· Backpacks (medium)
· Hats
· Sun Block
· Cell Phones
· Sunglasses
· Small Beach Towel
· All Ages Welcome
· Ages 7 & Under Free
· Fanny Packs
· Digital Cameras (Non-Pro)
· Disposable Cameras
· Film Cameras (Non-Pro)

Note: There will be an area provided at the Festival Entrance to leave your bicycle

Please check back before you leave for more information on what to bring and what not to bring

So they are recommending you bring someone 7 and under so they can get in for free??!??

Also this, when I go to a festival I try to destroy the local eco system by starting my own vegetable farm to save on food costs..

NO ROOT VEG ON SITE - WE'RE SERIOUS!

No Root Vegetables will be permitted on site:

"Entering Pemberton Seed Potato Control Area, planting of potatoes is restricted."

So reads the sign at virtually every entrance to the Pemberton area, leaving many to wonder… why? Pemberton was given this designation in 1947 because of its unique geography. The narrow valley with the surrounding mountains is ideal for keeping many potato viruses out of the area thus enabling the growers to produce high quality seed for shipment to potato farms all over North America.

The Pemberton seed potato growers use The Elite Seed Potato program to produce their seed. This is a flush through system that uses a four year cycle, starting with tissue culture plants and ending in the fourth year with hundreds of tons of potatoes leaving the farm gate.

To ensure the seed potato industry thrives the growers have been working with local gardeners and nurseries to minimize threats to the industry.

Controlling pests in the garden so that diseases and insects do not spread to neighboring fields and buying only local seed potatoes for planting go a long way to helping the local farmers to keep their Seed Potato Control area clean and virus free for many generations to come.

All patrons subject to search.

Also, this, it's a cool idea but will someone really have time to do this?

PEMBERTON ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES

There will be representatives on site from all of the great adventures that Pemberton has to offer:

Hiking
White Water Rafting
Soaring
Horse Back Riding
Jet Boating
Golfing
Mountain Bike Riding
Swimming in one of the many lakes
Zip Trek Tours
Canoe Trips

Pick your trip and your adventure guides will pick you up and return you to the Festival Site.

One thing though, I noticed they are going to have artisans like Coachella. Was Coachella the first festival to have arts at their festival?? I don't recall any festivals having this and then other festivals followed like Bonnaroo.

And yeah, you can only park your car at Pemberton if you have a minimum of 3 people in the car. Even then, it $50 a night. Or maybe it's $30. Either way, its expensive. But if you hae 4 or more people in the car, parking is free. Bastards.

Here is what I have heard regarding the main stage, since the Main Stage only goes from 4:15 to 11pm.

There will be 5 Main Stage acts per night

I am curious as to what the set times will look like on Saturday. Tom Petty will definately get 2 hours. If The Hip and The Flaming Lips play Saturday, then that is where it will get complicated. Both bands play sets that usually clock in over 2 hours. I have seen The Hip once, and they played for around 2 and half hours. Maybe more. 3 encores as well. Also, I think the Flaming Lips play a 3 hour set at Bonnaroo last year. Or maybe it was two hours. Either way, I dont see how they would give The Hip and the Flaming Lips only an hour. Maybe Serj Tankian will play Saturday. It wouldn't really make sense when it comes to the the style of bands, but from a set times point of view, it would make a lot more sense.
Also, for any of you down in the states, I will be refering to The Tragically Hip as The Hip. No Canadian actually calls them The Tragically Hip. You just need to say "The Hip" and everyone will know what you are talking about. Just an FYI.

You don't need half hour of set up time between every band. They could easily cut it down to 20 or even 25 minutes. And giving the subheadliner an hour is rediculous.
I would imagine they looked like this...

4:15-5:00 first performer
20 minutes
5:20-6:05 second performer
20 minutes
6:25-7:20 third performer
25 minutes
7:45 - 8:55 fourth performer
25 minutes
9:20-11:00 headliner.

Then again, as I said, an act like Serj Tankian wouldn't need an hour or longer, but if he plays Friday, he will play right before NIN. Perhaps each days set times will very, and it wont be like Lolla or ACL where it the same slots every day, just with different bands.

Im Canadian and I call The Tragically Hip, the Tragically Hip...its cause Im not really a fan, so I dont call them by their nickname, like Im tight or anything...

Although, ive seen the Hip, lol, once a Sasquatch and they were excellent. I used to really hate on them though.... Toronto vs Ottawa rivalry perhaps.

When I talk to people, and I say The Hip, they know exactly what I am talking about. I guess it depends on the situation though. Sometimes I say The Tragically Hip, sometimes I say The Hip. I will say The Hip here, because it saves on typing.
And I completely agree with what you say about them live. I actually got free tickets to the show I went to, if I hadn't of gotten those I probably wouldn't have gone. However, I am so glad I went. They are a really, really good live act. I thoroughly enjoyed them. I don't even know what it is. Their music is OK on album, but it is completely captivating live.

Now the question is will it be the Hip before Petty or the Lips before Petty... At Sasquatch 2 years ago it was originally Hip a couple of acts before the Lips... Maybe this time The Hip get home stage advantage?

They have to give the bigger acts more set up time. This isnt about how fast you can tear down and set up, its about getting things done right and not making this look ridiculous with 20 minute turn arounds.

I knew the Hip and the Flaming Lips would be playing Saturday. My bet is, on Saturday, there are only 4 mainstage acts...

4:15-5:00 - Sam Robets
5:30-6:45 - The Flaming Lips
7:15-8:30 - The Tragically Hip
9:00-11:00 - Tom Petty

So will they introduce Jay-Z as Jay-Zed?

oh how clever...

I was just lookin up random artists websites to see if they specific dates on their site as to what date they are playing and I saw on Death Cab's website it says

July 27th, 2008....so Sunday.

Serj Tankians Myspace says July 26th, 2008... so Saturday. Thats weird.

paulb
03-18-2008, 01:03 PM
So from Crystal Methods official site:

Pemberton Festival in Pemberton (near Vancouver), BC on July 27 http://www.pembertonfestival.com/. These are AMAZING festivals with OUTRAGEOUS lineups! Buy your tickets NOW!

So, Sunday... awesome...

rage patton
03-18-2008, 02:41 PM
Wait... so The Hip, The Lips (yes thats right), and Serj Tankian and Sam Roberts are all playing Saturday? That does make any sense whatsoever...
I knew Deatch cab were going to play Sunday. It just makes too much sense having them play the same day as Coldplay. Also Crytstal Method on Sunday is going to be awesome. I wonder if they will conflict with Coldplay or just close the dance tent? Hmmm...

paulb
03-18-2008, 02:45 PM
Jay Z--Coldplay---Crystal Method...thats gonna be excellent.

But, Serj doesnt fit in well with the Sat mix.... mainstage must be,

4:15 - 5:00 Sam Roberts Band
30 minute setup time
5:30 - 6:15 Serj Tankian
30 minute setup time
6:45 - 7:30 The Flaming Lips
30 minute setup time
8:00 - 9:00 The Tragically Hip
30 minute setup time
9:30 - 11:00 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

A short Lips set wont go over well... but, hey, how long was their 4 song Coachella set anyways?

Interpol's myspace says they're going to be on the 26th too. I'm assuming whoever does their myspace messed up the date.

magmazing
03-18-2008, 03:12 PM
No wait... Interpol's official website says July 26 as well. WTF?

Unless Serj Tankian's on the second stage for some reason I don't see how you cram 6 acts in the allotted time span of the main stage unless you shorten sets and put the break times at 20 mins. And that kind of leaves holes for the other two nights main stage-wise.

rage patton
03-18-2008, 03:18 PM
But the Pemberton website says Interpol is playing Friday...

It guessing it will be around 30 celcius for Pemberton. Which, for you heathens, is roughly 80-90.

I am not sure if I can do Pemberton and OLF. Due to money and the time off work I would need. I think, I am going to buy Pemberton tickets, then when I start my job in the summer, I will ask if I can have the time for OLF off too. If I can't well, that solves that problem. If I can, I will try to figure out the money issues...
