I never imagined Rage would ever play Coachella. Don't get me wrong, i'm a huge fan, but they never seemed like a 'Coachella' band, even though they have played before.

I'm a huge System of a Down fan, and have known them since before their first album. In fact, they went to my high school, i've personally met them a bunch of times, and have seen them live more than 12 times. But I laugh at the thought of them ever playing Coachella.

Is it possible for them to ever play at a Coachella? Maybe a few years down the line? Especially since they are now sorta 'broken up', just like Rage had been?
Maybe a reunion Coachella show in a few years? any thoughts on this?

I heard they broke up.

They never said they were breaking up, they just wanted to stop for a while and do their own things/projects. Serj has his record label and I know Daron has lots of other things he is involved in. You try and keep going after touring/recording nonstop for like 8 years.

i_like_cake530
05-28-2007, 06:54 PM
They didn't break up...they are just all taking a break from each other. But they will return, according to Serj(the singer). Sadly, the reason he and Daron got in an arguement, is that Daron wanted to sing more. Which is ridiculous, cause all the songs that he sings in suck (i.e. the two new albums) he should just focus on his guitar playing. i've heard that they are all doing there own thing right now... all i know is that the drummer has opened an online comic book store. which is hella funny. leave it to the drummer to open a comic book store.

System of a down show is a must see.

I've seen them 5 or 6 times and its always killer. By the 3rd song I always feel like I'm gonna die. But always go nuts to the end. Its gonna be sick when they start touring again. Not any time soon. But its gonna happen eventually.

Rage broke up over creative differences that stemmed as far back as Evil Empire among other things. System needs the break so they can come back to the band with a fresh perspective.

yeah it is pretty bad. I saw Deftones there and you coulndt really hear his voice, the band was way louder than him. It is a closed venue too i would have thought it was going to sound pretty decent. What I heard is Darron is working on a solo project. Its apparently an electronica/industrial type of thing. It will be interesting to hear.
Shavo is, apparently, producing the new Wu-Tang Clan album. Shavo is also a resident DJ at an LA club. (Dont ask me which one.)
Serj right now, as far as I know, isnt working on any musical projects. Instead he is focusing on being a political activist.
What I would love during this System break... is a new SerArt album. Even better, would be SerArt at Coachella next year.

Yeah if they dont run out of tickets, but this kills the whole idea because its all GA. So when everyone wants to get good seats or pit they wont because it will be reserved for the people that paid and thats a tad unfair.

I think the Self-Titled was better than Toxicity. Also, many people dont like Steal This album, and considering its all out takes from various points in the bands carrer, its a very solid album. I also like both of Systems new albums. It would be nice if Darron did lead vocals a little less.
However, when singing together, Darron has the perfect voice to complement Serj. They just work so well together, when Serj is singing lead. Darron should stick to back up.

i hope he doesn't plan on singing. i cringe every time i hear his voice. why do so many people who can't sing insist on singing? i guess his mom probly tells him he has a good voice or something.

First off, I am unclear on what type of music Darron is working on. I have heard from some it is an electronica project, like techno/house/trance type of thing. I have heard from others he is working with an industrial band. If its a techno type thing, im betting he wont be singing. If he does, it will be minimal. However, if its an industrial band, I will bet there is a 100% chance he will be doing lead vocals.

their first album was their worst. Crazy kids. They have been steadily improving. Steal this album! was their best, and the two newest albums after that. The guitarist singing is great on the album and I would miss it if he didn't. Obviously alot of people feel very different about SOAD. Oh Well.

They're on a Europe festival circuit later this year (2011)..
If they're getting active on playing festivals for special reunion purposes,
I feel like they'd have a good chance of possibly playing Coachella.

I never would have thought this, but once I saw that all they were playing were festivals on their upcoming Euro-tour, I got thinking.

They also have no US dates but a few of kind of random European dates if it is indeed their comeback. This would be kind of like a less-exciting version of Rage reuniting in 07.

I didn't say hard music can't headline Coachella, and I also never remember anyone saying System would have to headline, they'd be an awesome sub. Those statements are what YOU took out of it and put words into my mouth. (rolls eyes)

Personally I do not like nu-metal but Tool and System I think are both good bands, and I would totally be down to see them so I'm not "dissing" them at all by saying that. I've even seen System at a 500 person venue and seen Scars on Broadway at the Troubador, so again, I like System.

But are they really a Coachella-style headliner? Scars and Serj both were not even that high up on the bill, so Coachella does not mind having them on a second stage somewhere. Tool and Rage have headlined plenty of festivals before but System I think only Ozzfest and Download. So Tool and Rage have cross-over appeal while System does not.

I think my statement still stands, and I still say I hope they DO play. I'd like to see them there.

I would pass. These last few shows reminded me how much I can't stand the last 2 records.

In Chula Vista, it definitely wasn't as packed on the lawn as I thought it'd be. But that's probably because I'm a cheapass and had to get lawn while everyone else bought orchestra and loge.

That being said, SOAD are huge in Europe and are headlining the Download Festival this Saturday.
I'm a huge SOAD fan and personally, I can see them doing the Muse thing and headlining before a big DJ act like Daft Punk for next year.

Well regardless if they do the Muse thing or not, Muse was billed as the top headliner that day...SOAD will never be billed at the top of a day for Coachella.

Uh, they're certainly not subheadliners, so...

Then they are a...

Third-line act.

When it comes to Coachella they're just outcasts. They would have to really want to play the festival and accept sub/third line and a meager paycheck compared to what they are used to.

They are not capable of headlining.

Third-line act.

they won't headline but saying they are a third line act is ridiculous. EASY sub.

They could definitely sub-headline. The last 20 minutes of that show were pure magic.

Why not? We have had Faith No More and I really enjoyed it. Sure, they're different generations but they both influenced and revolutionized mainstream metal imo

Saw SERJ at the 2008 Pemberton festival around suppertime and there was lots of disinterest.
