i know most users could give a fuck about KFMA Day, as usually theres only one or two good bands that play, but does anyone whose interested in going have any predictions to whose playing? I know they fucked up on mettalica, which I'm glad for

Where's it being held at? If it's as cheap as the Fall Ball was last year, I'll be there.

I don't listen to KFMA anymore, but I still go to the shows if they have good acts (Muse, the Pumpkins).

What happened with Metallica?

karma_guy

mettalica backed out because the press leaked the fact that they were playing

this year's KFMA day is supposed to be help May 16th (a Friday) and initial tix were round 25-30 dollars at first. However, this was all when Mettalica was headlining, but since that has changed, idk how it will go.

PS-i agree, KFMA plays shit music, but I go to see that one or two good bands (ie silversun pickups, smashing pumpkins, muse etc)

anyone got a prediction for a headliner?

basically one of those radio sponsored, one day music days. Features 5-7 bands, etc.

I'm hoping KFMA will lay off of the shitty, emo/screamo this year, and while I'm wishing, I wish My Morning Jacket would play rofl

I love 94.9fm in SD, the indy jam, hootenanny, and birthday bashes are some of the BEST radio sponsored fest by far. They have never sold themselves out. Played a lot of local music, BUT THERE IS NEVER ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

karma_guy
03-15-2008, 05:27 PM
well there is nothing wrong with that, but I mean last year's lineup was:
The Used
Chris Cornell
Chevelle
Sum 41
The Bravery
Silversun Pickups
Authority Zero

So I basically paid 20$ to see silversun pickups, the bravery, and yes I did want to hear Chris Cornell play some Soundgarden/Audioslave

I didn't go to that and if this year's lineup is similar, I won't go to it again. I guess I only went to the show in September because of the Smashing Pumpkins. And of course it started to rain and instead of them soldiering on and having it be awesome, they stopped for, like, half an hour, and instead of coming out and playing their hits, they played a bunch of new stuff that Billy could guitar solo-masturbate to for 15 minutes.

Man, I'm in a shit mood tonight.

lol naw i feel ya on the pumpkins

at the end i was like "why the fuck didn't i hear Cherub Rock"

Yeah, except I'd wish they'd stop with the "let's support a TON of 21+ shows and maybe... 1 or 2 all age shows" crap.

I hope Indy Jam this year is as good, or better, than the last. They'll probably nab Death Cab as a headliner (or at least 1-2 Coachella bands going by last year's lineup).

Any idea on when they will post the lineup? I've never been to KFMA day, but I guess I should try if there is a good band or two.

Do they even play MGMT on air?

You can usually tell by which bands get airplay a lot. Interpol, Spoon and KoL, who played last year, got a fair share of airplay.

Sushov23
03-17-2008, 12:16 AM
they might put Grand Ole Party on the main stage now because of the exposure

karma_guy
03-17-2008, 11:07 PM
i saw GOP with rilo kiley last fall and they were amazing

but back to KFMA Day
they were supposed to announce the lineup 2 or 3 weeks ago but idk
I just figured since the coachella board is so good at predicting other music events, somebody would have some guesses to the lineup

pinguinotonto
03-17-2008, 11:09 PM
Yeah I have no idea, I don't listen to KFMA ever. I don't listen to the Radio.

Sushov23

usually radio fest announce the same bands playing in May, with the exception of the headliner, and give or take a few bands. well 94.9fm is the only one that is'nt lazy about it. You gotta give it a few more weeks. I would say about 2 to 3 more weeks. I remember 91x announced their show around mid april.

PassiveTheory

Again, Sushov, are they playing MGMT on FM94/9 now?

I went to the KFMA fest when the station was located in the Phoenix area (with that call sign) in the early 90's. The Sugarcubes played it, but I can't remember who else.

Jonathon L moved from KUKQ to KFMA shortly thereafter. That doesn't mean that he didn't bring them back for KFMA, I just don't remember it. Though, it seems like by then, the Sugarcubes were broken up.

For the SD guys in here...

91 Xfest has a prominent band playing Rock am Ring...
A band that sounds like one playing residencies in SoCal...
And a prominent band playing Bamboozle Left...

Just listen to the radio and you'll realize they are playing the first one ALOT, and it's somebody that you're like why are they playing them so much and it's because they are playing xfest...oh and they beat IndyJam as far as different venues...

I hate 91x so i could care less about this but hopefully IndyJam will be good this year...i'm hoping for DCFC and Raconteurs since they aren't hitting SD and are playing Coachella...

I don't think I would've gone to that one unless there were more bands that I liked. I only kinda liked 2 bands on that list.
It was at Desert Sky though. I dunno.

Why don't you just start a separate thread for this shit? This here is obviously an Arizona-centric thread, being that the show in question takes place in Tucson. Fuckin' hell.

Yeah, I had gone to three in a row and this was the first one I had skipped. It didn't help that Social Distortion and Material Issue had been there before, and Dramarama had been there TWICE. Plus, the last three had been two days, and not at stupid Desert Sky.

Still, I wish I had gone for the Sugarcubes.

I didn't know South Dakota was such a happenin' place.

Oh, actually, they probably don't. He said something a while back that made me pretty much explode on him. I never get angry online, even when I'm arguing with complete idiots, usually just laughing. But I was physically angry at whatever it was. So I put him on ignore for the sake of my sanity.

There are a few people around here that are on a lot of ignore lists, but probably not him. I always thought he was a basically a good kid until this incident.

Considering I can't remember the details, I should probably take him off.

Am I the only one who dislikes that stupid Flobots song?

KFMA is a terrible station, but unfortunately, there aren't many options in Tucson. KFMA just has one CD that they loop all day, and that CD includes:

Flobots' shitty single
Foo Fighters' new shitty single
Apocalyptica and their average single
Ashes Divide and their shitty single
Serj Tankian and his two shitty singles
Flogging Molly and their shitty new single

mixed in with some random Sublime, Beastie Boys, and, when they want to get really edgy, acoustic Alice in Chains.

Bad, bad bad...

KFMA does suck. But they give us a metallica concert for $30, I won't complain. i just never listen to it.
