Keep your eyes on the website throughout the week. At some point before the week’s end, we’ll post a link with your chance to grab a $60 three day passes. Quantities are limited, so keep mining the site and maybe you’ll strike it rich.

No, and I don't remember the ticket agency they used either as the lollapalooza site doesn't load on my work computer which really sucks and I can't upgrade the flash because I don't have administrative rights.

Anyone remember who they used last year?

I thought last year (im sure I'm wrong) they emailed you when and where to go for the presale.
I dunnoo...
Does this mean I have to check out the site every day to find out??
I'm not even sure I wanna go, but I mean c'mon...$60 for a 3 day festival that would at least have a mediocre lineup is pretty tempting...

And if the lineup sux, just sell the tickets to someone

Lollapalooza is a lot of fun. It's no Coachella but it's well worth it. And 3 days for the same price as a bag of chron? How can you lose? Not to mention when the lineup finally drops and you see Radiohead's name up at the top... :)

Congratulations guys, you deserve it...

Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails are expected to headline the fourth incarnation of Lollapalooza in Grant Park Aug. 1-3.

Promoters won’t make the lineup official for a few more weeks, but industry sources have confirmed that Radiohead has been booked as the centerpiece of the festival. The British quintet still raves about the experience they had in 2001 when they headlined a rare outdoor show at Hutchinson Field (Tribune file photo at left), on the South end of Grant Park. The band is expected to perform at the same location this year.

In addition, Nine Inch Nails will play its first Chicago show in several years, following the release of its 2007 album, “Year Zero,” and the four-volume “Ghosts,” made available a few days ago on the nin.com Web site.

At least one other major headliner and about 100 more artists and bands are expected to be announced for the three-day festival next month.

So, lets talk about the downsides to this fest.

It's in the middle of the god damned city so sound and noise is a HUGE factor.

No camping must stay in way overpriced hotels.

It's summer in chicago be prepared for 90 degrees and 90 percent hummidity it's one of the reasons I always chose Summerfest to the Taste of Chicago, a little cooler and less people.

Sponsors up the wazoo! Way to many to name, corporations everywhere.

The biggest complaint I hear is the sound and how much it sucks. Anyone else been and disagree and think the sound is good at Lolla?

JSam67
03-07-2008, 11:57 AM
No complaints about the sound. Only complaint is the 10:00 curfew. Weather is variable wherever you go, if you can last at Coachella, you can last at Lolla.

As far as sound bleed goes, Coachella is just as bad as Lolla.

And I've said it before, but if corporate sponsorship gets you all worked up, you might want to take a look around the world we live in........and then shut the fuck up, because it's everywhere.

I don't get the need to have a winner and a loser. I know this is America and we don't like tied games like those weird Europeans have, but, jeebus, who gives a fuck? Both festivals (all festivals) have their good points and bad points.

I was able to walk to my city center hotel instead of needing a rental car to get to my Palm Desert Hotel 7 miles away, so that was good.
There's no mountains or palm trees as backdrop, yet there's an incredible city skyline.
Sure, there are the occasional meathead douchenozzle fans at Lolla, but Coachella had Tool and Rage fans on consecutive years, so let's call it a wash!

I am too actually....considering no other US festival is getting Portishead and Roger Waters is Roger Waters...I don't think any US festival is going to have that kind of diversity or one offs in their line up...and don't forget Kraftwerk...

JSam67
03-08-2008, 07:55 AM
The diversity of Coachella this year is really great. The more it looks like it could be Portishead's only US show, the better it feels that I'll be there. And Waters will obviously be amazing too. But Lolla is a dream come true for me this year. I finally get my shot to see Radiohead, and it's at a festival I go to every year anyway. And I saw NIN a couple years ago on the "With Teeth" tour, but they were so awesome I can't wait to see them again. I don't care who the other headliner is, but when it isn't JJ, Lolla will look even better. But since I have both fests, I'm equally excited about both, but from totally different standpoints.

thelastgreatman
03-08-2008, 07:56 AM

A little bit ? When a stage headliner (Damon of TGTBATQ) comments on the racket from the next stage, yeah there is a problem.

I totally missed the sale by an hour. If rumored line up is true- I am so

I live in chicago and have never been to lolla. Is it true you can come and go the festival grounds?

What's wrong with you?!?!?!!?!? I live in Chicago and it's all I think about. How could you not have gone? Yeah, you can walk in and out, but unless you live right there, you're not gonna want to do that.

As awesome as Radiohead and NIN are as headliners, and depending on how the third one turns out, I still have to say I'm kinda glad that we got Portis and Waters if only for novelty's sake.

Nonethless, I better get some of those next-cheapest tickets so I can show ShyGuy how much his city's pizza sucks cock.

You better check yourself, son!

JJ so doesn't bother me at all considering it's going to mean I get to see Raconteurs > Verve > Breeders (Outdoor). Perfect, rocking my fucking balls off beginning to the weekend.

Ummm... I don't know if you heard, but there is a source that claims that Serj Tankian will be closing the outdoor theatre, not The Breeders. Of course, who knows how credible the source is, but you can view the article claiming this here. (http://www.marketwire.com/mw/release.do?id=828620) Just scroll down to the bottom.

Based on the accounts of some GV people I know, there is practically nothing established about who will play what stage until much, much closer to Coachella. Maybe they will put Serj on the Outdoor and leave us with an early Breeders main slot instead, but based on last year it seems like closing the Outdoor usually goes to an older act.

Justice isn't a headliner, though. I don't see headliners recycled in a 2 year span very often, and I hope Kanye isn't an exception to that. I don't see what would make him a great headliner. He was just there 2 years ago, he wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination, and he's doing Bonnaroo...

I guessed Radiohead correctly, but to have NIN as well was an awesome surprise. You're right, anything's possible. I mean, just 2 years ago, Death Cab was a Friday headliner. Now, even if they are on the bill this year, I seriously doubt they'd be a headliner. Perry has raised the bar a bit, starting last year with Daft, Muse and PJ, and it appears to be carrying over to this year, too.

I've been saying this for some time now. I had a feeling when the Coachella and Bonnaroo line ups came out. so I started hyping up my friends for Lolla, and now we are all traveling over there. I hope I am right about this though. It appears I was spot on about Radiohead. Funny thing is I lied to a friend and said yeah dude RATM are rumored, so they might be there(completely lying out of my ass). HA HA who knows now. they might just be there?

If Lolla has artists who haven't played America in about a decade and aren't playing any other festival on this continent this year, then you could make the argument. It seems awfully unlikely they'll top Portishead, Aphex Twin, Fatboy Slim, and the Verve, though, not to mention Kraftwerk, Roger Waters, The Streets, Goldfrapp, Spiritualized, and the sick-ass electronic music lineup Coachella's got.

Hard to get acts don't make a line up great. Are you telling me Radiohead NIN and Rage all at the same festival doesn't compete because of a few so called exclusive acts? COME ON.

You say hard to get acts so dismissively, one would think I wasn't throwing out names like Portishead, Kraftwerk, Aphex Twin, Fatboy Slim, Goldfrapp, and the Streets. Sure the three acts you mentioned make Lollapalooza compete because I really like all 3 (actually love the first 2 but don't feel so passionately about RATM), but festival exclusivity has to count for something. If I don't go to Lollapalooza, I can still see Radiohead at All Points West (for 2 nights) or Outside Lands, if not on their own headlining tour. It's cool to get to see them there and all, but it's not AS SPECIAL as seeing Portishead at Coachella (since that's the only place anyone in North America gets to see them without leaving the hemisphere this year). Rage did their whole reunion tour last year and I saw them at Coachella and Vegoose, while others saw them at Rock the Bells and Voodoo. Again, not as special as seeing Aphex Twin, who hasn't played America in 6 years. NIN is a big deal for me, as I haven't gotten a chance to see him since he toured in support of With Teeth back in '05, but I know he's probably going to be touring extensively later this year anyway.
I don't mean to rain on the parade here -- I got really excited when Radiohead and NIN were said to be headlining Lollapalooza and I considered going there instead of the fest in San Francisco, so obviously the headliners count for something. I just think that with the track record Goldenvoice has and Lollapalooza doesn't, to give the festival crown to Lolla when they've only announced their headliners (and is Rage even confirmed or just rumored?) is pretty damn myopic. Remember how people were saying Bonnaroo was going to mop the floor with Coachella this year because of who was rumored to be headlining their fest? How many peeps about that have you heard since their full lineup was announced? I'm just suggesting that people not get ahead of themselves.

faxman75
03-13-2008, 08:43 AM
I can't believe people are still excited about Rage. That show last year was not very "exciting". Minus his one rant, it was pretty much a standard set you would have heard them do any number of times before they broke up. They sure are milking this. We are going on 1 year since their first show back together and no new material. They can milk it because they are doing like 6 shows a year.

I'm excited for lolla, but I won't give Lolla the crown or Coachella until full line ups are released. Right now as far as rumors go Lolla is winning in the headliner department. Whenever you get the chance to see RAGE, NIN, and RADIOHEAD at the same festival it is pretty special, whether or not it's EXCLUSIVE. But hey who knows it might not even be these 3, nothing is confirmed yet.

6. Rage (since I just saw them last year)

I just got done watching some NIN clips from the tour on which I saw them. Unbelievable stuff. I remember thinking that was the best non-festival concert I'd ever seen, and these vids remind me why. And never having seen Radiohead, I don't think I could be more excited for Lolla. But Coachella with Portishead and Waters will be great too, and very different. Thus, I think Coachella and Lolla complement each other really well.
