OK, so obviously there are conflicts and there are logistical problems that make half of this a moot point, but for argument's sake, here's my tentative
schedule in dreamland. I have no clue if we'll be able to make it to any or all of these:
Bold means no fucking way I miss it

Wednesday:
A Place to Bury Strangers 4
Akron/Family 4:30
(Dinner/Drinks)
Van Morrison 7
These New Puritans 9
Times New Viking 9:30
Lightspeed Champion 10
Okkervil & Roky Erickson 11
REM 12
Shearwater 1AM

Now, if Okkervil and Roky play until 2, then I'm missing REM and Shearwater. That said, Sheff should be around or Shearwater, so I'm counting on Okkervil and Shearwater. I'm fucking speechless about Roky playing with Okkervil.

Thursday:
Body of War 7
Spoon 8/Islands 8/Jens Lekman 8/Lil Cap N Travis 8
Yo La Tengo 9:30
Man Man 10
Jay Reatard 10:30
Bon Iver 11/My Morning Jacket 11
Islands 12/Jens Lekman 12
Old 97's 12:30/ The Raveonettes 12:30
Serj Tankian 12.45
Black Mountain 1
NOFX 1
Times new Viking 1:20

OK, so there are obvious conflict problems on Thursday. For starters, Islands and Jens both play twice, I've seen MMJ and Spoon plenty of times, I used to absolutely love NOFX, Black Mountain is intriguing and Bon Iver, Jens and Black Mountain are all playing the same venue. BUT... I must see Jay Reatard and either Old 97's or the Raveonettes so looks like I'm missing the jagjaguar party. Damn.

Friday:

The Lovely Sparrows 8/Billy Harvey 8
Crystal Castles 8:30
Santogold 9
X 10/ Grand Archives 10/Liam Finn 10/Rogue Wave 10/ The Submarines 10
Vampire Weekend 11/ Shout Out Louds 11
Helio Sequence 11:30
Headlights 12/ J Mascis 12/ A Place to Bury Strangers 12/ Man Man 12:10
Thurston Moore 12:45/ Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltzin 12:45
Constantines 1/ Blitzen Trapper 1/ Destroyer 1/ Atlas Sound 1

Wow! Friday is loaded. I'm torn between X and The Submarines at 10, leaning towards Shout Out Louds at 11 then bailing quickly to catch Helio Sequence (plus VW will be one of the hottest tickets in town and I like to avoid that whenever possible--like Louis XIV a few years back). Midnight is totally fucked. I could make a strong case for all 4, though if I see A Place to Bury strangers earlier, then they could be ruled out. SSLYBY will conflict with Destroyer, which sucks. then again, that 1AM slot is also loaded.

Saturday:
Talib Kweli 5:30
Ice Cube 8
David Bazan 9/ M Ward 9
Raveonettes 10/ Jim James 10/ Guy Forsyth 10
Neva Dinova 11/Jason Collett 11/ This Will Destroy You 11
Why? 12/ Los Campesinos! 12/ A Place to Bury strangers 12
X 12:30/ Film School 12:25
British Sea Power 1

Probably my most set day. I'll probably choose M Ward at 9, then Raveonettes at 10, then head to the Collett/ Los Campesinos! shows at the same venue. Sucks to miss This Will destroy You and Why? but oh well... Depending on whether or not I see X earlier (and depending on proximity) then I'd hit them up for a little bit, then closing out with British Sea Power (what a way to close out, by the way).

Wait... Roky Erickson is playing w/ Okkervil River as his back up band?

I'll probably make it to about 40% of the stuff I listed. That's the biggest problem with SXSW.

Wait... Roky Erickson is playing w/ Okkervil River as his back up band?

Yup. i think it's more of a collaborative effort though. Per Austin Chronicle:
"In what's already been dubbed "Rokkervil," Okkervil River (pictured) are headlining the 2007-08 Austin Music Awards, scheduled for Wednesday, March 12, at the Austin Music Hall, alongside Roky Erickson. With Roky hot to guest with Will Sheff's crew, it should be the wildest collaboration since Mudhoney and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Credit former Chronicle music newsman Chris Gray with the brainstorm. "Will Sheff was really into the idea," relays AMA director Margaret Moser, "though I have no idea what songs they're going to do." Here's hoping the Black Sheep Boys tackle "I Walked With a Zombie." Also confirmed for the evening is a Gary Clark Jr. showcase and a six-string salute to Walter Hyatt led by David Ball of Uncle Walt's Band. Stay tuned."

I've just REALLY, REALLY wanted to see the Submarines for some time now... I think that I'll be able to see Grand Archives soon enough as they seem to be touring quite a bit. Who knows? Throw in X and that slot is a cluster fuck. Probably going to depend on which venue is the closest. I really want to see all 3 (and Rogue Wave--but I caught them at SXSW a couple years ago playing at like 2AM).

WooHoo! Thank you.

Keeping fingers crossed. But really, isn't that the absolute perfect gap? And they haven't played Coach since 2005??? Perfect setup.

Here's mine (http://sched.org/sxsw2008/safecracker)

If I go. Maybe flying in Thursday or Friday. I am still trying to whittle these down too. It's hard. You can't see everything, but if I am able to catch even a quarter of this, I think that would be a pretty satisfactory weekend. I'd be satisfied anyway.

Yeah, you probably will... Since they're doing ONLY 21+ shows... Goddamnit.

1. Spending cash that might be better used elsewhere.

2. Just to say I was THERE man. Plus VW's not so bad. I was going to try to catch an earlier set on Thursday, I think it was, but it conflicted with something else. Plus, Nothingman's right, that late slot will be filled with drunk annoying hipsters and that's always my kind of crowd. I'm hoping for a semi naked snapshot with an indie celebutard or two. Pledges of lifelong friendship from Scott Stereogum, Perez, Maura from Idolator (who's really nice in person), Diablo, Ellen Page, etc. You know, whomever. I'm not there for the fucking band.

3. I'm seeing Zooey and Matt, in case you didn't catch that. Does that not redeem this at all?

What are you, new? Eat less, spend more on music. You might die if you don't eat, but at least the last thing you'll hear is Britt.

Mrs. Nothingman is also going. I imagine disgustipated is going. Insane lineup but the logistics just boggle the mind. Ah well, it's only one of the best times in one of the most fun cities in the U.S. Nothing much being missed.

If we werent' so swamped at work I'd leave tomorrow and just go. Nothingman your schedule is great. If you haven't seen X live they're definitely worth it. I saw them in 1982 and in 2003 and I swear the 03 was the better set.

X is a must-see, especially since they're playing twice. Also RSVP'd to a couple of parties where BSP are playing, so looks like I'll be catching them twice (or thrice) during the festivities.

No such thing as an easy-to-understand schedule at SXSW. Just go with the flow, brotha. Like I said, I'm sure I'll see roughly 40% of my planned schedule. Once the night hits and drinks start flowing, all bets are off...

Whoever is going to SXSW make sure you check out The Sword! They have billed themselves as "Zombie Eaters." If you are a FNM fan, you will get the reference. They will be playing Faith No More covers at their set. I wish I could go, if for no other reason then this. (http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2008/03/the_sword_is_pl.html)
