This is my first Coachella, and just wondered if people could enlighten me as to how many different stages there are, and what each stage's particular style of music usually is?

The genres aren't really dictated by the stages. Bigger acts get bigger stages.

the sahara is the DJ tent...other two are random

Smaller bands play the smaller tents - Mojave and Gobi. Bigger bands play the Coachella (main stage) Stage and the Outdoor stage, although headliners always play the Coachella Stage. DJ/Dance in the Sahara tent.

Coachella Stage = different genre + Headliner (biggest stage)
Outdoor Theater = different genres
Gobi & Mojave Tent = typically (smaller) bands
Sahara Tent = dance (mostly trance dj's)
