In 2004, I saw Phantom Planet instead of Kraftwerk. I also should have seen Scissor Sisters instead of Tool in '06.

Damn I was dumb.

Last year was my first year, and i almost went in 2006. I didn't really have the money, and didn't recognize most of the names so i decieded to save my money. In hindsight i should have gone. I now know that it really doesn't matter if i only recognize 20% of the names the first time i look at the poster, because i get to discover new music. I was stupid.

I missed Lupe Fiasco because a friend lost his sunday ticket. left it sitting in the grass. We had to search for someone who was selling one. I got a second chance though I'm going to see him soon.

-missing Kraftwerk in 2004
-attempting to see Madonna instead of hauling ass to outdoor immediately after YYYs for Mogwai
-attempting to see Ladytron in 2006 (lost my good main stage spot)
-not seeing The Chemical Brothers in 2005
-wasting time watching Bright Eyes in 2005
-getting my phone stolen last year
-camping out to get up front for Air and then having to leave 10 minutes into their set from exhaustion
-having to give up my spot against the back rail for Daft Punk during "One More Time" because I was dehydrated and blacking out. apparently my magic cookie had enough "magic" for four or more frequent users

Leaving LCD a few minutes early is a bit of a regret, but unavoidable. Damn diarrhea.

My biggest regret was not going in 06. I didn't go in 2005 because I wasn't feeling the lineup. I debated going in 06 but waited too long to buy my tickets and they were sold out by the time I had the money to go. So therefore I wound up missing Daft Punk.

My only other regret was wasting any time at Happy Mondays before going over to the Teddybears last year.

I am a dumbass for not going in 2004, 2005, and 2006 just because my friends didn't want to go. Especially since in 2004, a coworker was ready to drive down with me. Only regrets last year are that I stayed in the campgrounds kind of late each day instead of checking out the earlier sets.

Collapsing out of exhaustion, rather than going to see Gogol Bordello, as I had planned to do all day. In my defense, I didn't not expect to dance my fucking ass off at Stephen Marley as I did earlier in the day when the sun was at its peak.

I wish I had gone to New Pornographers. I saw a little bit of Travis, Nightwatchman and Peter, Bjorn and John. Totally dissapointed by PB and J. MSTRKRFT was awesome but some chick puked at our feet so me and the group I was with left. Travis was pretty good.

Edit: Jarvis Cocker was awesome

Only seeing part of Lucent Dossier's 2006 show

2001:
Missing Squarepusher's set..

2002:
Getting to Bjork late and getting squeezed all the way to the back...
(no big screens back then...all I could see was a tiny dot)

2003:
Leaving a prime spot for The White Stripes to see Primal Scream and being very disappointed with their set...
Missing Underworld

2004:
Missing Kraftwerk and the beginning of Air's set..
Leaving early for the Cure's set...all because I was tired..

2005:
Missing Four Tet and Mercury Rev

2006:
Leaving midway through Depeche Mode to find other in my group.
Missing Daft Punk, because I thought it would be a DJ set and being tired..
Deciding to see Madonna instead of Mogwai or The YYY's, or camping at the main stage for a good spot to see Massive Attack and Tool..
Missing Gnarls Barkley and Deerhoof
(2006 was my worst year...)

2007:
Missing Jarvis Cocker (But I was up at the rail for Bjork so this evened out)...also missing DJ Shadow due to conflict with Bjork..
Missing Rodrigo Y Gabriela
Missing Justice

also missing decemberists for good spot for arcade fire

getting the good spot for arcade fire was the biggest mistake by far though, It was very very crazy up front, I made it to a couple people from the rail and the pressure was unreal. I got out of there thinking i was gonna die from exhaustion.

Anyways so I ran from arcade fire to justice and passed out on the ground as soon as I got there. So ya missing justice cause I was dead tired was the biggest regret.

My biggest regret was missing last year. I had such a fun time in '06, but I was jobless, strapped for cash, and starting orientation for a new job the morning after the 'fest ended (there was no flexibility on when I could start orientation) all the way back in MPLS, MN. So financially and logistically it didn't make much sense to go... but I still shoulda gone anyway.

Also, I regretted having a rock-star spot while shakin' my tailfeather to Carl Cox in the dance tent, and then leaving. If I stay, I have a really nice spot for Daft in the tent, but I left because I was too tired and overheated. By the time I got back people were spilling out of the tent.

The best advice ever given to me about Coachella was to wait until the sun goes down to start drinking. My biggest regret is that I've rarely followed this advice, and boy did it take a toll last year on Sunday. To the hundreds of people that I stepped on or stumbled into at the main stage during Manu Chao, my deepest apologies. To the many people who picked me up when I got knocked down during Rage, my sincere thanks. I'll try and do better this year. :)

Really? I have seen them 3 times without being disappointed....

I thought their sunset set (that just sounds weird) was phenomenal. Last year I only caught the last three songs (which happened to be my three favorites) of their set, and was still highly impressed by Mr. Butler and Co.

I actually snuck back into the festival grounds from the campsite after leaving early to catch SWR. Watched their whole set from halfway across the polo field, wondering what the flashing lights in the dance tent were all about, then left after SWR finished while Daft were still going.

Hard to beat.

Oh, and combine that with the fact that the next night I scampered off from our prime spot at the main stage right before Massive Attack because I was on too many drugs and hadn't had any water, missed what would have been a front row Massive Attack set during the best hallucinogenic peak of my life because my friends are lousy whores and didn't bring waters back like I told them to.

The Fantomas were fucking amazing. Mike Patton, Dave Lombardo, and Buzz (I'm sorry, I forget bassist's name) laying down some of the most wonderfully schizophrenic songs I have ever heard.

Fantomas and M.I.A. were my favorite small-tent acts from 2005.

I seen Fantomas too. That was my first year going. I got Dave Lombardos Drumstick after their set. His wife was so nice.

The lesson I learned from the sole acid freakout of my life at Coach 06 is twofold: one, don't count on anyone else to make sure you have plenty of water if you're planning on candyflipping really hard in the desert--buy like six bottles before the pills and tabs kick in, keep them in your backpack; two, before you run all the way from the main stage to the furthest corner of the polo fields PAST the fucking Sahara Tent because you're tripping too hard to read the WATER signs and you lost a contact so your vision is REALLY fucked... remember that you have a bunch of xanax in your pocket and if you just took one when you started freaking you would have been completely fine. Instead I remembered after like an hour plus, at the very end of Massive Attack's set. Took two 1 mg, felt absolutely fine within three minutes, ran back for Tool.

I guess the other key point is to always have some xanax, valium, or other psychoactive-combatant tranquilizer on hand.

Every year thinking I can make it through the day in jeans, only to get heat stroke around noon the first day. If you don't own shorts, buy some at thrift store. How was it? How the fuck do you think it was? Actually, that night I wasn't tripping that hard by the time I ran back to Tool. Once I realized I had the Xanax in my pocket I gobbled down one more than I probably should have, sobering me up quite a bit. But it was a good call because I was able to haul ass back to near the front from the other end of the park, and still buzzed enough to be really ecstatic about the show.

On other occasions though, I can testify that Tool are among the absolute best bands for hallucinogens. Haven't gotten to see them on a decent amount of acid yet, but lots of ecstasy, and their music plays with the energy in your body like it might as well be fucking you.

Coldplay was alright, but I just felt miserable the whole time because I was freezing and didn't have a sweatshirt, so after a while I finally got enough energy to get up and walk over to the booth before I went back to my tent and buy a sweatshirt. $45!

But anyway, after listening to the Chems boot from that year, I just really regret not staying. That was pretty much the end of Coachella year one. But ive been to Coachella every year since except for the one day!...typical me .

Second regret? ..not seeing Kruder and Dorfmister in 99.. who was i watching instead...Janes addiction? was it St Germain...? Cant remember but im a big K&D fan and the never played since that im aware of..At least in So Cal, but i could be wrong...

Not really a regret, but each year, I have researched the artists and been better prepared. Thanks to the group, I make a spreadsheet, which I share with our group, so we can see our common interests.

In 2004, we got through the gates late and missed some great acts. My biggest regret was leaving Beck's set early for a water run (it was 106 degrees, and it was my turn, dammit!), and my wife's regret was having to ditch Radiohead early to walk a girl from our group to her car (she considered letting her go alone).

In 2005, my wife was seven months pregnant, so tent shows were not agreeing with her, and we left the Prodigy set early for Bright Eyes.

In 2006, I committed the cardinal sin: SWR, not Daft Punk. We had just seen DM, and it was closer. Our group was split between the two sets, and clearly DP's set was legendary.

Last year was flawless with two exceptions: (1.) not having any water for our extended Main Stage run (Silversun Pickups, Arctic Monkeys, and JAMC) and (2.) letting my best friend hang back for Interpol when he could have joined me for Sonic Youth.

i met buzz at the melvins and jello biafra show in seattle (i really went to see adam jones from tool but i do love my melvins) and ended up talkin to buzz for a while before the show and after that whenever he was in town we'd just stop by before hand and have a chat. and yeah i met mike at that fantomas show. he was super nice and super humble

Oh man... I found out about the Melvin w/ Jello show a couple days after it happened here in Vancouver. I was so choked. I like The Melvins, and Becky is a HUGE Dead Kennedy's fan. And I am so jelous about you meeting Mike Patton. Super humble eh? Thats cool. In interviews I have seen with him, sometimes he seems that way, other times he seems like he has a HUGE ego. And other times he just turns the interview into a joke...

missing depeche mode in 06

don't feel too bad. it was a nice, chill, downtempo set that was really relaxing, but it wasn't what i wanted to hear. don't get me wrong, i enjoyed it, but i enjoyed the tour performance more. and i wanted to hear more stuff like "new dress" that they weren't playing on the tour.

though, getting to makeout with a friend from new york with depeche mode as background music was pretty sweet, personally ;)

i thought their set was really good. but i think because of the time constraint they couldn't do the full set from the tour (which was amazing) and pretty much stuck to stuff off of Playing the Angel. AND since this is the "regret" thread...i think i do regret sticking around to see all of DM's set and not leaving towards the end with my friend and his girlfriend to go get a spot for daft punk. they ended up right in front of pyramid...sadly, the rest of us didn't even make it into the tent.

Not knowing who the Evens were in 2004.

Last year, I didn't have breakfast on one of the days, and so I got real hungry on the way and asked if we could just stop at some random store just to get some quick bites. By the time we got there the Chuck Dukowski Sextet finished. Rrrrghhh. I should've sucked it up.

Also, it wasn't my fault at all, but in 2004 a bunch of people who were supposed to carpool in the transporter van we were taking all decided to cancel last minute, making us an hour late. I missed !!! and Hometown Hero because of it. I've seen !!! since but I have no idea if HH is even around anymore.

Last year was my first year and I made the mistake of sneaking a whole lot of rum into the camp area and getting really wasted on the first day from the time the sun woke me up until the gates opened. It pretty much killed the entire weekend. All day Friday I was half alive, sobering up in the desert sun with barely any money to buy food and water to replenish myself. Most of the acts I caught that day involved me laying down. Not realizing my mattress had hole that couldn't be fixed and drum circles in the camping area until 4 am every night made sure I never got the rest to recover from that first day. I ended up being so tired and broke and dirty that I sold my Sunday ticket for like half ticket price because I was too exhausted to care. Although, I think all of these things taught me valuable lessons, leaving me in better shape for this year, which is such a better line up than last year. Also, I need to find better substances to abuse. Alcohol just isn't made for long days in the desert. And at least my friends dragged me away from the last half of Arcade Fire for some Ed Banger. When in doubt, go with Ed Banger.

No kidding. We got pulled over for speeding on our way back to pick up the tickets. We weren't cited for speeding, but the cop thought he would have a little fun with us and give us bad directions for a "shortcut". That motherfucker. We spent over six hours driving back and forth before we finally made it into the venue. Luckily, Radiohead were just starting their set.

The next day, my friend passed out in the crowd just before the Cure came on. He hadn't had a drink of alcohol in 6 months, and decided to have four or five beers in an effort to quench his dehydration. Couple that with standing in the sweltering heat with little to eat and jumping around to hit balloons during the Flaming Lips set, and I guess it was just too much. I had to drag this 220 lb. man to the medic tent and watch the Cure from a considerable distance.

There was plenty more hardship for us that year, mainly due to us having entirely no idea what to expect.

If a newb can take anything away from my experience, it's to not be a dumb ass and be prepared.

I had the money, I had the ride, I even had a friend who wanted to go with me.

What stopped me. My mom. My Dad was out of town and she would've been left alone if I had gone. She asked me not to go. So I didn't. I am a Mommy's boy. The female persuasion is strong in this man.

'01... I saw Jane's Addiction over Sigur Ros. (BAD IDEA) It was sigur ros's first time ever playing in the US. I only caught the first 10 minutes then we had to go over to the main stage only to wait for 45 MINUTES!! for Jane's Addiction to even come on the fucking stage. Then they put on the most half ass set I had heard of any band in a long time. Needless to say I was kicking myself...hard... in the testicles.

biggest regret: 2004, only going sunday, standing in the outdoor stage all day, sitting through cursive and bright eyes with a horrible headache and a closed mind thus unable to enjoy them (i got over that eventually), having my dreams crushed by brmc (the reason i sat through cursive and bright eyes) and most devastatingly, leaving the front row of basement jaxx to see the flaming lips and the cure. wayne almost redeemed me with the yoshimi sing along, and i finally made it to about 90% with the cure's encore.

2nd biggest: letting one of my friends debbie down me during daft punk thus killing all enthusiasm, losing the other one.

3rd: crapping through mogwai fear satan.

whynotsmile99
04-22-2008, 04:31 PM
why in the name of all that is holy would you wait that long for BRMC?

They play all the time, play small venues and are like 15 bucks. and you could just bum rush the stage after bright eyes and would have gotten a fine view.

My biggest regret is not going in 06. I didn't go in 05 cause I wasn't really into the lineup that year. I had just seen Depeche Mode at the Staples Center with floor seats, so that wasn't that much of a draw. Then in 2006, I was short of cash and couldn't go. So basically missing Daft Punk in 06 is my biggest regret.

I went yesterday for the first time. I don't have huge regrets, but these two are a bit annoying.

When we first got there, I was surprised with VIP passes. Yeah, Yay!!

However, during both the Rocanteurs and The Verve, they were cleaning the bathrooms and the line was long, slow and annoying. I spent half of both band's sets there.

But, they were not what made me want to go to Coachella yesterday, so still had an awesome time.
