View Full Version : Something Very Strange is Afoot on Pollstar

I was just looking at Pollstar today, searching for new additions to the lineup and suddenly there are no bands listed for Sunday anymore and all of the Sunday bands have moved to Friday. Check it out here: http://www.pollstar.com/tour/searchall.pl?By=City&Content=CA_Indio&PSKey=Y&Sort=Date&Date_From=&Date_To=02-18-2010&Market=N&Market=N&Page=1

Not sure what this is about, but Pollstar is a pretty reputable source for these types of things. What on earth is going on?

Exactly, I just checked last night and it was not like this, and today all of the Sunday bands are listed on Friday.

They're not going to shrink it down to a 2-day festival, but perhaps this signals plans for a massive re-arrangement. Maybe Roger Waters and Jack Johnson will both play Friday and they'll add a new Sunday headliner?

betao
02-19-2008, 10:34 AM
or even better, Roger Waters will murder Jack Johnson and take his spot.

I doubt they would move all the bands to friday, make Roger Waters the headliner over Jack Johnson and then add all new bands and a headliner on Sunday. That's completely psychotic and would completely screw people who already bought 1 day tickets.

PierogiHead
02-19-2008, 10:39 AM
I don't think they would consolidate down to a 2-day festival, either. If they did, wouldn't you think they would take Saturday and Sunday as days to hold it over rather than Friday and Saturday? Also that would cause many to become upset about paying for a 3-day pass (Although technically the same amount of bands would be playing... Amid presumedly mass amounts of conflict set times.) A massive rearrangement would disappoint quite a few people who already are holding tickets -- Especially single day buyers. Confusion continues, but maybe Pollstar needs to just get their facts straight. We have not heard anything official from Coachella themselves regarding supposed day switches by Black Mountain, Black Kids, Yeasayer being added, etc.

Honestly, I wouldn't get too worked up about this. Pollstar really is a reputable source, but I check the site all the time, and they do bounce things around like this very often.

Keep an eye out but don't freak.

that is the kind of mind-fuck that i would welcome with open skull. especially since i bought a 3day pass

I'd like to point out that this kind of rampant speculation is one of the things that led so many people to be disappointed with the initial lineup. The rumors (My Bloody Valentine, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, etc.) were taken so seriously by so many that when the real lineup was unveiled, it was only natural that people felt a sense of anticlimax.

Doing the same thing now (thinking this means massive rearrangement, added headliners, etc.) – based on, let's face it, not much – is a bad idea. Let it play out, and stop pinning your hopes on wishful thinking.

I thought this was a joke but I went to Pollstar and sure enough there red everywhere. Hmmm...????

betao
02-19-2008, 10:46 AM
It would be completely stupid for them to narrow it down to a 2 day festival. That would not only mean switching bands around, but giving refunds out to those who bought 3 day/single day tickets. That alone would be quite a mess. Not to mention it would make GV seem very unorganized this year.

I can already see the conspiracy theories brewing that the reason Paul stopped selling single day tickets so fast wasn't because of the speed of sales but because of his master plan to rearrange everything and just make it an easier transition thus being the TRICKS UP HIS SLEEVE.

Sorry, I've been reading this board too long. :)

Agreed. Of course Roger is still playing on Sunday for sure. It would be nice if Jack Johnson moved to Sunday to play at sunset time and a new headliner is presented for Friday, uh??

I hate Pollstar this year. I have never used it other than to keep track of the Coachella line-up over the past years, and its always been on-spot. When I saw a change, it would show up on Coachella's announcements or poster within a day. This year, nothing they report seems to be following in line with the line-up.

Also, this thread is now in the Rumors/Gossip/Wish List. Does the thread creator do that, or does an admin do that? If the latter, it sounds like a hint to assume Pollstar is glitching.

I think you are right. The Polo fields could easily handle 75 bands on one day.

It's a technical error.

Modest Mouse and Kraftwerk wrongly being shown as playing at Vegoose was not posted by Pollstar.

It was several CBS affiliate stations that posted an incorrect online flyer.

If something is changing (highly doubtful) then we will probably be the last ones to be informed.

Paul/Goldenvoice will probably go to Canada and annouce it at a candian hockey game over a minor candian sports radio station as it is being covered by some paper/magazine we have never heard of. And then as a final note he will announce a new music festival in Montana with the rumored headliners to be My Bloody Valentine, Bowie and Jack Johnson.

Yeah, I am going to have to say that unless its a name never before seen on this year's line-up or something, there is no reason to raise an eyebrow about Pollstar. I always found it useful, but I just checked and it looks like there are bands highlighted in red and blue who they have always had listed and on the days they originally listed them on. I can just imagine there is some snide 20something year old sitting behind the controls of that page on their end getting a good laugh at people taking their word to heart everytime he decides to make an empty-meaning update, he he.
