Does anyway know if it's legal to sleep in cars? We (me and some friends) can't find any places to camp and we don't wanna camp at the onsite camp.. therefore we'll probably sleep in our car, but is it legal?

Best regards - David.

Where are you planing on sleeping in your car. If you have been drinking even if your keys are in the trunk and you are in the backseat its considered drunk driving in CA.

You will be hard pressed to find an officer who will take you in on a DUI charge under these conditions. The main reason is that it will be hard to prosecute the offender under the circumstances described by the OP, and it would be much easier to require them to leave the vehicle and then charge them with being drunk in public.

This is an interesting read on the subject and the arguments used here are those that most defense attorneys use in cases with similar circumstances.

Now, from my personal experiences with this situation, if you are up front with the officer, and are willing to cooperate with them, they will usually call a tow trunk to take you and your car home, or even take you there themselves--if you are close enough. This has always been the case for me, and not once have I been take in on DUI, or public intoxication charges.

Just something to keep in mind.

I know quite a few people arrested for this who have spent a week in LA county for it.

Baaaaaaddd idea. I slept in my car last year and didn't sleep at all because there was a bunch of ravers playing techno allll night.

Horrible idea man. Unless you pass out drunk.
