so it's basically a sure thing that blues traveler will be added as a subheadliner for friday night, it should be announced in the next couple days. this is what friday needed, a little rock, a little guitar. i'm very excited, hopefully this will please the people looking for something a little heavier at coachella.

Did they also tell you Jerry Garcia is going to be added?... How about L Ron Hubbard?...

Seriously.

C'mon guys L Ron Hubbard would rock the Sahara, at least until Anonymous showed up then it'd be an all out brawl best thing since sliced cheese.

Anonymous would kick ass with it's Duke Nukem remix of "YOU LOST THE GAME" and send L Ron and DJ Tom Cruise running for their lives.

isnt john popper, or whatever his name is, dead?

if not, how has he survived at 5,000lbs?

and no, i dont think this would satisfy anyone's desire for more "rock" - lol

i like blues traveler fine, i guess - and by like, i mean i know that one "run around" song with the wizard of oz inspired video - oh and some other song about a heart bringing you back, or something.

however, i do blame them for the existence of garbage like O.A.R. (ps. lamest name ever) and dispatch

He lost a lot of weight a few years ago. They played here a few months ago, and based on what my friend told me about his onstage behavior, he probably lost the weight with a little chemical help.

Tad Kinchla and Ben Wilson joined the band following the death of original bassist Bobby Sheehan in 1999 of a drug overdose in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Live's been touring with Counting Crows...cross your fingers for a two-fer. :rolleyes

I have a promo of that album that had "Lightning Crashes"...I always thought it was decent, but hated that song. It was like the 4th single...I remember thinking "why THIS one?" Now it's the only one anyone knows.

Blues Traveler, who will be playing the Riverside County Fair in Indio Feb. 18th, will officially be added to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival within the next few days.

"We're really excited to have the opportunity to play at such a globally recognized festival", said John Popper. "Goldenvoice is definitely heading their festival in the right direction, with bands like us, Jack Johnson, and Roger Waters, to keep all different kinds of music fans buying tickets every year."

Obviously bullshit.

The first quote - ..., says John Popper". Nobody quotes people like this in the press. It is either "lead singer, John Popper", or "frontman, John Popper". A quote after that would likely just be "says Popper".

Blues Traveler would have to play Sunday. Their website says they're in Inglewood, CA, on the 25th and Scottsdale, AZ, on the 26th.

Having said that, I'd like to add this: Dear Christ, don't let them play.

I heard that Blues Traveler was going to be playing behind a curtain while Jack Johnson and friends performed with no sound. Similar to this Blues Traveler video:

I saw Danielle Dax once, and it was clear that one of the guitarists was faking. There was another guitarist in a wheelchair way over on the side of the stage, we figured out he was doing all the work.

Who are Blues Traveler?

M Sparks

Who are Blues Traveler?

Since you are Canadian, I'll take this as a real question.

Blues Traveler got quite a bit of cred as a legit blues band in the early 90s. David Letterman was a fan and used to pimp them on his show a lot. They founded a hippie version of Lollapalooza called HORDE that ran through most of the 90s. Around 94 or 95, they had a couple massive pop hits that they coasted on through the late 90s.

Then, the lead singer, John Popper- who weighed about 400 pounds- had a heart attack, and the bassist ODed. Popper got healthier and they got a new bassist, but they never really recovered. They are still a big draw on the jam circuit, but as shown in this thread, a lot of people still confuse the two stories and assume Popper is dead.

Their new album is acoustic versions of their hits, which is usually not a good sign.

Hey, sorry to bump an idiotic old thread, but I just saw an ad that made me think of this thread and crack up.

That Scottsdale show on the 26th is the "McDowell Mountain Music Festival", where they are, indeed, subheadliners...

BELOW John Butler Trio...

Which would put them about 25th on Friday's lineup :D

I also noticed that John Butler was listed very low on the Coachella lineup. In Australia (yes, their home land) they are the biggest act on any fest. John Butler also is significantly billed on many US fests.

I'd guess that they will draw a decent crowd at Coachella.
