I voted no because if I'm going to give someone money, it's probably either going to be someone I personally know or a charitable organization that I believe in.

You can't blame her for trying. She's cool people and one of the first people who I started talking to on this message board.

Mozbilly54. I'm now in for 20.00 bucks. Don't let the negativity get to you. There are plenty of OG's out there that have your back. You only gonna need either 40 people giving you 10 bucks or 80 people giving you 5 bucks.

Come on everyone. This is one of our peeps. A person well respected and liked on this board.

Look, we need to take a break from our sponsers at this time. When we come back from break, PF from Goldenvoice is going to come up and make a presentation.

Still to come....Marilyn Manson with Frank Sinatra Jr, and many many more!!!

this really is a valiant effort...however i can't help but feel a little bit irritated...like when i go to kmart...and the same dude asks me every time to donate to some cause i've never heard of, and is putting the money in a coffee can.

its like, look man...i already came here to spend money...don't ask me to spend any more.

that being said, i would kick in 5 just for the coachella karma points.

Welcome back everyone. We are in our 8th hour of the Mozbilly54 Coachella Telethon. How about that performance of Dope Show with Marilyn Manson and Frank Sinatra Jr.? Frank Sr. would have loved to meet that kooky kid.

Wait a minute everyone. I’d like to have Ed and Jerry take a look at our tote board. As of 12:10AM, our new total is….drum roll………….

http://www.mda.org/publications/images/q54jled218.jpg

$36.00
1 Bennigans gift card, street value of $11.00
1 popsicle
Some marbles
1 drunken promise to donate money

Hey now! Let's keep the love coming everyone.

And now a story from 11 year old Virginia.

"Hi Everyone. My name is Virginia and I live in Santa Rosa, California. I have loved music all of my life. I have never been to a concert because I was born without any eyes. I can only hear music and imagine what performances would look like. My mom surfs on the internet for me and shares all of the things she sees. She mentioned to me earlier tonight that she was on the Coachella message board and read about how Mozbilly54 was unable to attend Coachella because she did not have enough money this year. Nothing would make me happier than to hear that Mozbilly54 was able to attend this year because all of the happy Coachella people were able to give her a little bit of their money. I am asking each any every one of you to help Mozbilly's dream come true. Unlike me, I wouldn't enjoy the concert as much as I know she will. I ask everyone to remember that every dollar you donate is for not only Mozbilly54 but for me. A little girl who will never be able to enjoy a concert like most of you can. Please make me happy. Give Mozbilly54 her dream. Thank you.

Auplause......

Thank you Virginia. We hear you loud and clear.

When we return....Dorothy Hamil......Kenny Chesney.......Jack Hanna......and many many more........

That really sucks. I said I'd chip in $10 but before I do I need some info:
Are you in school? If so where?
Do you have a job? If so where do you work/ what position?
How much money do you need to get to Coachella?
How much do you already have saved up specifically to go to Coachella?

Heres the deal. If you were able to hitch a ride with someone from the board and camp you could attend for far less $$. Though I don't know you, I know what Coachella means to me and I'd be heartbroken in your shoes so I want to help. On the other hand I don't want to throw money into the pot and you end up not attending anyway, thus I piss away $10+.

I'm not mocking here, but how will you pay us back? I don't give out handouts, but I'd gladly help with a loan. Perhaps interest free would be reasonable (although the loan term would have to be relatively short).

Conversely, If you are a US citizen, and I assume you are making less than $75,000 (otherwise fuck you for asking for money), and you file tax returns, and you paid more than $3,000 in taxes (along with a few other restrictions) guess what? You will be getting approximately $600 by Uncle Sam in May (see the following link to make sure: http://www.consumerismcommentary.com/2008/01/28/economic-stimulus-tax-rebate-calculator/). Therefore, as a CPA in the State of California, I give you the following advice:

Assuming your credit isn't total garbage, or assuming you have a credit card, buy your ticket right before the event (hopefully it doesn't sell out) and charge it on a new CC or on an existing one. You may be able to time your billing cycle so that you don't pay interest on your purchase if you pay it off by your next statement. Conversely, you may have to pay interest if you go through a few billing cycles, but worst case scenario APR is 18% (assuming you haven't defaulted on the card), therefore you'll be paying about 1.5% per month, thus you'll be on the hook for about $4.50 in interest per month until you can pay it off (ignoring compounding interest).

Your $600 in May will more than cover the ticket (and potential interest).

Are you in school? If so where? YES. College of Southern Nevada
Do you have a job? If so where do you work/ what position? I write for a magazine and as an administrative assistant.
How much money do you need to get to Coachella? I need enough to cover my ticket as I'll just sleep in my car in the Tacobell parking lot. (I'll have my car fixed and ready to go by then.)
How much do you already have saved up specifically to go to Coachella? By the time Coachella comes around, I will have some food and gas money saved.

I don't have credit cards. I only have my WAMU debit card. I do not plan on getting credit cards any time soon. And the $600 I get in May is going to my parents to pay them back for a medical bill.

I have several questions/concerns:

1. Let's say you raise $350 for 3 day and camping passes...now what? What will you eat? What will you drink? How will you get there? How will you pay for gas? You need at least $500.

2. Why do you have to pay your parents back? As a father, I can tell you that it's their job and responsibility to help out their kids. I'm not talking about giving you $500 to rave in the desert for 3 days, but $600 to help with medical costs is more than reasonable, and even money to help with your car is not out of the question. Honestly, I'm not sure what kind of parents would expect their kid to pay them back for medical expenses. I'm not trying to speak negatively about your parents, but I cannot imagine a situation in which I would ask my daughter to pay me back for medical expenses.

3. How close are you? How much money have you raised (either yourself or from the message boards)? Again, you need at least $500.

fatbastard
02-21-2008, 10:53 AM
I have several comments/remarks:

1. I can appreciate your fatherly concern. Specifically, what does having enough money for food and gas have to do with your donation? We do not know if she has friends that she will meet there or if she decides to go to Taco Bell for all 3 days and spend a total of 20 dollars on food. Is your donation contingent based on information? If so, how much information will need to be given for a sizable donation? This a charity telethon. Your money is needed in order for us to make our goal. Mozbilly54 may decide to donate all monies over the goal to starving children in Slovenia. Not sure if this is an actual country but my mother use to refer to this country when I wouldn't eat something she made.

2. Mozbilly's reasoning appears self explanatory. She borrowed money from her parents. She owed someone money, hence the phrase borrowed. I'm surprised, based on your sign name, that the paganman family would have such a loving and giving heart. More surprisingly is how someone with such a servant's heart is asking this fine young Coachella citizen to justify her reasoning on why she feels obligated to re-pay her parents. You may not have read this in previous postings, MOZBILLY54 DOES HAVE MONEY TO ATTEND COACHELLA THIS YEAR. Don't you understand sir, most of us are all just one pay check away form missing Coachella! I once worked with a woman who had accidentally dropped nail polish on a 10,000 dollar rug when she was in high school living at home. Her mother made her re-pay the entire amount back over the years. I hope this telethon demonstrates the importance of family values and responsibility. If so, you can be assured that your money is not going to some flake who is asking for free money, but for someone who is responsible and a great admirer of the Coachella Music Festival.

3. Your recommendation is much appreciated. Mozbilly54 is coming from the wonderful state of Arizona (I believe). It's difficult to understand why such a low amount has been raised so far. The telethon forecasts that a larger amount could potentially be raised if everyone were to pitch in to this dire situation. We are anticipating the roll out of another campaign later this week that may make it more tempting for members of the board. For now, we wait and hope that people, just like yourself, open their wallets, purses or holy socks to help a girl in dire need.

We have people manning the phone and the PayPal account. Your dollars matter. Let's help make the impossible possible!

Hey there. I'm from Nevada actually.

I've only made $10 from the boards thanks to the generosity of NiceArthur32.

Someone said that they were mailing me $10 because they didn't like paypal.

No one else has helped out which is perfectly fine as I'm not trying to "panhandle" but any nice gestures would be greatly appreciated and be repaid in cupcakes at coachella. I owe NiceArthur32 double chocolate cupcakes as of now.

As for paganman....i'm being a responsible daughter to my parents to pay them back. Afterall, I'm on my own and they are retired and didn't have much of the $600 to help in the first place. My family isn't as well off as yours I guess.

Main Entry: pa·gan

2: one who has little or no religion and who delights in sensual pleasures and material goods : an irreligious or hedonistic person3: neo-pagan

Thanks for the definition. I had no idea that, as a pagan/atheist, I was supposed to be materialistic, hedonistic, and...how did you put it...not have a giving heart.

I always delight in people's misperceptions based solely on lack of perspective.

Mozabilly:

I have genuine sympathy for your situation. Although I am currently financially stable, I grew up very poor with a single mother and was homeless at the age of 7. I can truly feel your pain. I want to help, I really do...you can count me in. I'll send you something via paypal today (cupcakes are not necessary, but if I see you at Coachella, a hug will suffice).

Where are you girl? I am going to update my Paypal password tomorrow. I will be donating 54 dollars but need your help. Don't mean to sound like an idiot but I need instruction on how one goes about charging money on their Paypal account to another person. I'm in the midst of closing out multiple credit card accounts and changing banks and whatnot and I usually use my new bank card and then take off my profile since my ex still has access and I want to be safe. Not that you all needed hear that or that my $5 would have even made a big difference but shit, that comment sure did annoy the fuck out of me. Charity is what it is. Wouldn't it be smart to just not say anything and hope I would catch it or even say "hey faxman, not to be jerk or pest or anything but your payment got reversed". Hell anything polite would have worked.

Anyway, I doubt my $5 will be missed. I just don't dig on rude comments from strangers.

This is incorrect. Your money is missed Faxman75. I'm about to post a detailed posting to get this campaign going again. It appears like Mozbilly54 might have been insinuating that you might have intentially withdrew the transaction as a prank. Please reconsider sending your 5.00 dollars over again.

I could not agree with you more. This was the reason she orignally posted that she wasn't going to attend. It was my suggestion that she ask for the money via donations on this message board. How about 5.oo dollars GPS? Seriously, 5.00 bucks is like nothing in your world. Example.

Product - 5.00 bucks buys 25% of Tom Ford's soap on a rope

Music - 5.00 bucks buys 30% of the newest Jack Johnson CD

CONTRIBUTIONS TO DATE-$149.00 (46%)
Total funds donated to date to help Mozbilly54 purchase tickets for the 2008 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.

ABOUT THE TELETHON
Mozbilly54 is a message board regular that became a victim of circumstances this year (car problems). Though it may seem like a scam or act of begging, it’s not. She is not related to me and we have never chatted via IM or any other vehicle of communication. Why Mozbilly54? Why not? Seriously, this person mentioned that they wanted to attend but could not afford to attend. I am on this board all day so why not try to make something positive come out of it. It’s a goal that is totally achievable if people step up and participate. Your reward from this is that your donation, regardless of the size, helped pay for someone to attend the concert.

DONATION LEVELS
President’s Circle - $100.00
President’s Circle donors, in addition to receiving all of the benefits mentioned below, also receive the opportunity to enjoy lunch or dinner, at your cost, with Mozbilly54 and one of the food tents area.

Supporter - $50.00
Supporters, in addition to receiving a special thank you message from Mozbilly54 and a chocolate cupcake made personally by Mozbilly54, receives the recipe for the chocolate cupcake.

Patron - $20.00
Patrons enjoy the benefit of receiving a special thank you message personally from Mozbilly54. Patrons are also entitled to a chocolate cupcake made personally by Mozbilly54.

Board Member - $10.00
Board members receive a special thank you message personally from Mozbilly54.

Student - $5.00
Your donation helps Mozbilly54 attend this year’s Coachella. Feel confident that you helped the cause.

Coming up…

Wait, how is it not begging again?

It's a suggested donation level. Those of us who are fortunate enough to have an extra 10.00 or 20.00 dollars in their pocket may consider making a donation to this cause. This person is just like me and you. They have bills to pay and love music. Sometimes the two don't always coincide. By making a donation we're helping a fellow admirer of music make it to Coachella this year. Your support, rather than your questioning to the cause, is greatly needed.

I cannot stress this enough, the phones are manned and Mozbilly54's PayPal account is up and running. It's getting close. You can remain anonymous if you wish or if you want the public pat on the back, that is available at various donation levels. Thank you Coachella!!! Thank you for helping make a girl's request come true.

Thank you Fatbastard for believing in me. I will get there dammit!

And everything that he has said is true, he is a full support of me and we have never even chatted or met! He's just one awesome person that believes in good human actions. It was not my call to ask for donations, it was his idea and I just said, fuck it...couldn't hurt.

To Faxman: I didn't mean to be rude. I did think you did it on purpose and I'm sorry that that wasn't the case. Also sorry to hear that you are going through problems as well right now. You didn't have to donate but I thank you for the gesture.

This is not a scam. This would be my 5th year to the festival and I can't go. I'm almost there and as for food and gas as many of you are asking about...how would I pay for it? Well the answer is that my friends were feeding me for the weekend and I'm carpooling there and sleeping in the car.

Why can't you save up the money between now and then? Do you work?

fatbastard
03-15-2008, 04:31 AM
Again, these questions are not helping with the campaign. They only show how important money is in making someone's dream come true. We can ask all questions all day but it doesn't answer the thread's question. We need money faxman75. We need it sooner than later. Coachella is right around the corner. By reading the previous posts, you can be assured that this is a responsible person. In that, I mean that she is saving money for parts of the trip, gas, food, etc. but she will be unable to save enough between now and then to purchase tickets to the actual event. How about faxman75? I know your heart is in the right spot or you would not have made the original donation. Due to technical difficulties, it did not go through. Just donate the money again and feel confident that you helped her get there. 5 bucks, or even 10 bucks for that matter, is a small price to pay for an experience. I've spent way more for a lot less in my years walking this world. Opportunities come by very seldom. You have to jump on them when you can or live with regret for the rest of your life. Judy Romeko in the 6th grade as an example, I could have made my move. She was practically throwing her bra off to me but my self talk said to me, "your gonna get her pregnant and your parents will disown you for getting her pregnant in a church". I never made that move and to this day and I regret it to this day. There are hundreds of examples I could give but trust me, this is your opportunity.

For everyone one else, the phones are currently down. We just purchased our own T1's and were installing them this morning. However, Mozbilly54's PayPal account is ready to receive your donation today. Why not upgrade your donation today and get a cupcake? How cool would it be to stand in line to get in while eating a cupcake from someone you helped get there? SWEET? Yeah, it's gonna be sweet.

Please make your donation today!!!

this whole thing is ridiculous now. It's one thing to ask some friends for money, it's another to turn this thread into some kind of joke telethon with different levels of how much you can donate, and what you'll get in return. Why can't she save money? Has she ever heard of work? Hello, I paid full tuition for 5 years of college out of my own pocket, went to every class, paid all my transportation fees outta my own pocket, and still worked every week to make enough money where I still had a nice amount saved in the bank. Don't tell me she can't truly save $300, because I don't buy it, or this thread.

Sorry, she had no faith in me or the fact there was a technical error so why in the hell should I have any faith in her? Rudeness from a stranger when charity is attempted doesn't go very far with me. Much like a bum on the street saying "spare some change" and me saying, "sorry all I have is a debit card" and the bum saying "fuck off".

As a stranger you don't get two chances. It's nice to know that you still think I should donate this person money. I'll pass.

The negtivity from this thread is starting to rub off. For that, I apolgize to everyone else who is viewing this.

This isn't a parking lot concert. It's a world renouned event that people attend every year. It costs money for a 3 day pass, hotel, airfare, and meals. I am a working white collar office working. I am not on salary and not wealthy by any means. Honestly, 10.00 bucks is the cost of lunch.

More questions. With all due respect, if only you’d been this focused in your finances, you wouldn’t be in the position you’re currently in. Seriously, I hope it works out.

We all have financial responsibilities, yet some of us may consider donating money to Mozbilly54. This is the primary reason for the thread. If you don’t believe her story or the act of donating to a complete stranger on the board, it’s ok, but to keep questioning the creditability of the idea along with back handed comments is making yourself look bad. Please also refer to all of the board members that you speak for when referring to “us”. This will help clarify who won’t be posting in this thread anymore.

It still baffles me how people are reacting to a simple question. Questions, name calling, and sex jokes. The ones in gest are totally part of the fiber of this board. Some of the others are getting me to see an ugly side.

Well since you asked, I hope Randy accepts paypal too. A money shot's gotta be worth $15 at least.

Wait wait wait, why the fuck can't she just GET a credit card and use that?

Fuck that, give me ten dollars then.

I ate breakfast at Auntie Em's yesterday. Their coconut cupcakes are the second coming. They use a cream cheese frosting.

They are a rockabily band who do strictly Smith covers. They are HUGE in Japan.

This was a comment of mine that was overlooked and I actually thought was quite funny. It was in reference to the name Mozabilly.

I am also still open to starting a band under this name and conditions I listed above. If you cal play the standup bass rockabilly style... contact me.

there was a thread somewhere where PF actually dragged mozabilly back to the board to defend herself. I forget what she said though.

There are plenty of alternatives to raising the funds without mooching off the board.

1.) Rob a Bank
2.) Donate Sperm
3.) Man-whore yourself to SoulDischarged
4.) Sell Organs
5.) Sell Lemonade

You can doo it, see you at Coachella

If anyone could use a telethon right now, it would be SoulDischarge. He needs to be on the polo fields this year, somehow.

Would somebody please tell Patrick that his negative attitude probably has something to do with the negative situation he's going through. I mean, I know we've all been in less than desirable places or phases in our lives, but as long as you believe there's the chance it will change for the better, atleast that hope will keep you trying. You keep telling yourself it won't and pretty soon you'll have yourself convinced and give up completely. 23 years old is way to early to be giving up on hope for a future...
