i remember a week or so ago reading something about how clever it would be for them to announce MBV playing on valentines day.

what do you guys think of that? AJDbskjfhdjkfhdjf im sour. i wish they were playing. at least im not bitching every chance i get though. someone really should make a 'bitching about the lineup' forum.

Yeah, most of us don't have $1200 to throw away on airfare to see a band.

BLAH, MBV not playing coachella sucks, but I'm also not going to let that shit get in the way of me having an awesome time at coachella this year.

Failing to get MBV will hurt everyone. Odds are that My Bloody Valentine would have done Coachella, SF, NY, and that's it if they were playing, but since that's not happening, odds are that we'll just be completely screwed.

I think MBV not playing this year and Jack Johnson confirming is one of the reasons people were so upset when the line up came out....

Very very true.
MBV would've been one of the best acts this year.

I thin it's quite possible for a MBV late addition to get the ball rolling. All they need to do is add MBV and Mars Volta and shit will be NUTZZZZ

Why won't My Bloody Valentine reunite at Coachella?

The Coachella Festival recently revealed its 2008 lineup for the three-day event in April, which includes headliners The Verve and Portishead.

Notably absent from the lineup were My Bloody Valentine, who were expected to reunite at the California desert festival.

Coachella founder and organiser Paul Tollett explained to NME.COM why the legendary shoegazers will not be performing at the Coachella Festival this year.

"I was hanging out with (My Bloody Valentine frontman) Kevin (Shields) over at the Led Zeppelin (reunion concert in December), and he said it was just too early," Tollett said. "Coachella's in April and I don't think they'll be ready yet."

Tollett added, "You know it's hard to get 125 bands into the middle of the desert in April. I'm really excited that The Verve will make it. They've been on my list to try to get for years but I never thought they'd get back together."

As for My Bloody Valentine's fans in the US, Tollett offered some words of encouragement. "Don't worry--they'll come to America."

Meanwhile, the band are set to play summer festivals in Europe, as previously reported.

The Coachella Festival takes place April 25-27 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California.

Not ready yet? What a load. Kevin Shields is just a flake. That's FOUR FUCKING MONTHS to get ready. How many rehearsals does a band need to play live? My God. A live performance does not need to depend on the release of an album...bands play Coachella before any new material comes out all the time.

noisemachine
02-14-2008, 01:23 PM
Yeah, I don't buy the "we won't be ready" excuse. Hell, they could start practicing now and be ready by Coachella. Maybe throw in a couple warm up shows like the Pixies did and they would be fine I'm sure.

Think about it, the swirling guitars may sound gorgeous on record but its so easy for it to go wrong live, thus kevins penchant for 3 hour soundchecks to tweeze his amps and gear to the nuances of the venue. They relied on their gear more than ANY other band in their genre at that time, more so than sonic youth. When they did tour, they were strictly a club/hall band and were known to push their amps(didnt use the house pa's for their amps i should add), to eardrum rupturing levels. I dont think they ever played any festivals or outdoor gigs as a band, i know kevin has with primal scream. Being that this is their first show in 15 years, i really think kevin would choose a more familiar kind venue to get things started off right. Their festival dates come a few months should be interesting.

Too early?
They would've had four months to get prepared. Plenty of time considering they aren't that old.
It was probably just a matter of how much they were being paid.

Its an absolute shame.

i've been worrying about this ever since this lineup was released, especially because MBV was so heavily rumored but absent from the lineup.
