View Full Version : Jay-Z Headlining Glastonbury

Isn't it about time he played Coachella? There's no big name hip hop act this year, nothing on the level of common, the roots, kanye west, black star, etc. He just released a stellar new album (American Gangster). And he's clearly doing festival(s).

Any chance he could be a late addition?

way too mainstream hiphop in my opinion....I like some of his stuff, I just don't feel he fits Coachella.....

if he were to play coachella he'd headline too bad they didn't get him.

I would for sure take him over Jack Johnson though....only if the Roots were his backing band again

Jay-Z is a fucking legend, certainly more qualified to headline glastonbury than the fucking killers (who i like by the way). So this talk about ruining glastonbuyr's "image" is completely ridiculous to me and smacks of latent racism.

heres the deal with JAY-Z. Hes a rap LEGEND. Until he retires though, he would fuck up the coachella vibe. I hope for a living legends set. Aesop, Luckyiam, and Murs are all going to be there. I bet they get added.

Why would you want half of Comptom (which is only 1.5 hrs away) showing up to shoot people at the polo fields.

Glastonbury 08... Kings of Leon, The Verve and Jay-Z???

That is absolutely atricious. Thank god I didn't plan on going to Glastonbury this year. Seriously. Wit how shitty the 07 line up was, and how the 08 line up is turning out... I doubt I am ever even going to bother with Glastonbury.

For sure. I would never plan a trip to the UK just for Glastonbury... or any music festival actually. I would make a Vacation out of it. But at this point, even if I was in the UK on that weekend, I wouldn't even bother going.

Having the King of Leon headline is re-fucking-diculous. Seriously. Who is going to headline next year? Here is how I imagine the conversaton going...
"Lets just take a look at our trust Coachella 2008 poster. Hmmm... I know! Lets get The National to headline!"
"Yeah! Great idea! They were 3rd line on the Coachella 2008 poster, just like King Of Leon were third line in 07!"
"They will definately be big enough to headline the most known music festival all over the world!"

Are you crazy? Last years lineup was shitty? I don't think it is possible for any Glastonbury lineup to be shitty. There are just way too many good musical options and acts every year.

If all you care about are "headliners", Radiohead is playing the two nights before Glastonbury in London this year.

Although I was also surprised to see Kings of Leon headlining Glastonbury, I have been informed that those guys are pretty huge over there. What everyone has to realize is that some bands that are huge over there are not as huge here and vice versa. For instance, Muse is finally getting pretty big here in the US, but a few years ago when they were playing 1000 person venues in the states, they were playing to 100,000 in the UK. In some countries, Slayer would still be considered a HUGE headliner.

On another note, I am also coming to the realization that we are simply running out of "festival headliner" type bands. We're seeing more and more repeat headliners, headliners going from one festival one year to another festival the next (i.e., Pearl Jam) and now we're reaching for 2nd tier bands and trying to elevate them to headliner status (Portishead, Jack Johnson...if you even want to consider him 2nd tier). There just aren't a lot of bands left that can draw 60,000 people and haven't already done the headliner, festival gig. And I'm not sure there are many on the rise either...luckily most people I know focus on the undercard, but as far as headliners go, I think we should start getting used to hearing them announced and then saying to ourselves...What the fuck?
