I saw them at The Joint about 15 months ago. They can still bring it, big time.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? do a cover of Whip It, but that's probably as close as you'll get to any Devo action at Coachella.

The problem is they still tour a little every year.

If they took a few years off, everyone would be creaming over the "reunion".

"Whip It" sucks. Normally I find the whole "I'm a real fan, so I don't like their big hit" mentality to be pretentious BS, but I've never liked "Whip It".

Devo played at Casino Morongo a couple years ago.

I saw em play a little 9 song or so set after a Nike run in LA, (run Hit wonder), it was sweet, eventually the people putting on the run wanted to announce running stuff and were like,' we all like Devo, but now to talk about the race winners' and we were yelling for more Devo

That scene is painful to envision. Almost seems like something from a parody movie like Best In Show. D-E-V-O doesn't deserve that lame gig, but money cures all ills.

D-E-V-O rocks, and if you don't know that, you better recognize. Someday they will be heralded for their progressive attitude and funky ass electronics.

I saw them play Lollapalooza between Rancid and The Ramones, and they were better than both... hands down.

I am a fan, but I do not think they would be a major hit at Coachella.

You right about not deserving a lame gig, totally, I feel bad for posting it now. I was still really glad to see em thou, they were great. De La Soul did it one year too but yeah, totally like from a Christopher Guest Movie. I should try to see em at a regular venue. The reaction of Coachella fans to them might suprise you at Coachella thou, they can support mellow acts (that i love) Air, Belle and Sebastan, as well as totally funky acts (Gogol Bordelo or Data Rock, which confuse meh brain) so without the Tool/Rage element, I bet they'd dig it.

One thing to remember; DEVO was never a mellow act. The preached De-Evoloution and they believed it. I read something where they are going to score 200 movies or commercials this year. DEVO is so subliminal that ad agencies love them.

Fast forward to the 2:00 mark with this Gut Feeling clip from 1980.

At the end of this interview, Jerry says (in reference to the punk rock movement of the 70's/80's)...
"we didn't think there was no future. we though there was a real future and it was ugly and horrible. and we were right. and now we have a retarded cowboy running our country."

The Teddybears produced "Watch Us Work It" used in the Dell spot. It would be fantastic if they collaborated on an album. Why not roll that new stuff out at Coach?

Devo played at Casino Morongo a couple years ago.

That doesn't mean that didn't have a direct and heavy influence on lots of acts performing at Coachella.

how the FUCK did I miss this quote at the beginning of the thread?

it would be an absolute slap in the face if DEVO was at Gobi.

yeah well, i'd love em main stage late, but not sure the younger folks know who they are, kinda like they don't know Love and Rockets.

Devo are 100 times more well known than L+R, at least on the surface. The problem is no one GETS them. But people never really got them. Probably one of the most misunderstood bands around.

Late Outdoor Theater would probably be ideal.
