do you have a source saying they were killed? that article just says they were rushed to hospital, and that
The condition of the two injured people was unknown late last night.

This looks awful. I don't mean the crowd I mean the performance. Zach sounds like total shit. He's not even trying. Fucker.

I think this is the performance from a few nights ago.

Forgive me if you guys talked about this at some earlier point, but do you remember when people started climbing the sound tent thing during Rage last year? I wasn't far behind the sound stage to the right, and I remember a security guy rushing up there and epicly taking him down (really awesome, by the way). Can you imagine if they had fallen through and ruined the sound for Rage? Riots would have ensued, I'm sure. People gotta relax; be excited for a band, but within reason.

Yeah, there was a whole thread with photo's and you tube clips. Fucking stupid ass people. One of the people in the thread claimed to have been the cool guy who was first to scale the sound board.

Fucking retards. This band really is not that good. I love how they are milking this reunion with not a single new song, only playing the festivals that pay out the ass. Ha.

Not sure I would be bragging about that sort of thing if I was that guy. Of course, that guy was idiotic enough to climb up there, so, maybe it wouldn't surprise me. Sorry to bring up an old topic, this story just gave me deja vu from that event.

I remember thinking "there aren't a lot of positive ways this can turn out." Props to security. Thanks for the vids faxman. That 1st video seems close to what I remember my vantage point being.

I wonder if they had a second barrier like they did at Coachella? Last year was my first Coachella, and I was told it was the first time they put up the extra barrier to prevent the entire crown from pushing forward. Definitely a smart move.

Rage's sound was ruined from the very beggining of their set, they didn't need someone else to ruin it.

I totally forgot about the douches on the soundboard. I just remember thinking "This could be the beginning of something real bad."
Thank god it ended without incident.

Unless you were being smashed in the group near the second barrier. Then only 80% of the crowd could push into your back. Oh wait, thats where I was. But in all fairness the second barrier was a good idea.

I wasn't there last year to see if there was anything extra, but there was a second barrier in 2006.

Yeah I was pretty close to the people who started climbing the sound booth thing, and I just remember thinking, this is most likely gonna turn out really bad...crazy times.

the whole barrier in the sahara in 06 was pretty stupid though...

No there wasnt, you are probably thinking of the barriers set up in Sahara? Cause the set up barrier wise for Tool ws the same as every year before that.

I wonder whats going to happen in the U.K. when Rage plays Reading and Leeds. Also, those shows in Germany are going to make BDO look liek a walk in the park. The worst show last year that I went to for Rage was the Sf date, there was a kid carried out on a stretch with a c collar on during their set and peopel were dropping like flies.

Oh man, if those idiots halted/fucked up the set at that point shit would have hit the fan in a big way. There were already small groups of people looking to start shit when the set was over but right in the middle when everyone was totaly amped up... I'm glad nothing happened for sure!

Thanks for posting that Courtney. Sounds like the event organizers oversold the venue, and a lack of police/security combined with some idiot fans was a recipe for disaster.

Terrible...

This is the best as I can remember (obviously the black lines and such are where the barriers were placed):

Sahara 2006 - Saturday (daft punk)

http://www.ebombfilms.com/chomp/sahara06_day1.gif

Sahara 2006 - Sunday (madonna)

http://www.ebombfilms.com/chomp/sahara06_day2.gif

Main Stage 2007 (ratm)

http://www.ebombfilms.com/chomp/mainstage_07.gif

I can't remember if there was a first barrier for Tool or not. I think I remember seeing a pic during Franz's set (played main stage before Depeche Mode) where there was some sort of barrier separating the crowd, and it wasnt by the sound booth.

suprefan

Erik for DP there was the second set of barriers like for Madonna, you probably never noticed cause you were so close.

There was no secondary barrier or anything for Tool I know that for sure. I was pretty close on Saturday night from Sigur Ros and and there was nothign extra, and it was the same the next day.

menikmati
01-28-2008, 04:35 PM
you sure? I was right next to the soundbooth (dead center of the tent), and there was no barrier going down the middle, and I don't remember any off to the sides...I just remember there being that little "pit" area being blocked off.

suprefan

Trust me, during DP there was the second barrier, not the way Madonna had it but it was there. I would know cause I didnt pay attention to it when I walked into Sahara earlier that day to check out Hybrid and Perry, only to return later that evening leaving Depeche Mode and trying to work my way towards the front for DP and being stopped by a freaking barrier.
