So last year we did this when it was only a matter of time when 3 day passes and camping would sell out just dependant on GA numbers given on ticketmaster.

So right now its at GA 13, let the ''count up'' begin!

Hi guys! I got GA3 during the first few minutes. It's my first time going to Coachella, so sorry for my ignorance -- but the GA # does not necessarily mean anything (in terms of what areas we have access to) right?

Nope! It's just a number based on how many tickets are sold, like GA1 might have 1,000 tickets or something. Does anyone know the actual number per group?

They probably are, but if people are getting single tickets, and that's all that's left from various GA numbers, then they'll get those while other people getting 2+ tickets will pull from whatever is available. Also in the event that anyone's order is denied or canceled, then those numbers would open back up to people.

JJ outselling Roger Waters? I know I know, it's probably the undercard being better on Friday, but really, shouldn't the Sunday headliner be blowing the other days away?

After searching last year's threads, the conversation then was that around GA122 was close to the sell-out point for last year's Sunday tix. And Sunday tickets were gone the second I logged in to buy tickets last year.

I searched boards and found the GA count thread from last year: http://www.coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1707

Last year the 3-day passes got up to 87 and then started to go weird going back down to 30 then back to 87 then spiked to 101 all of a sudden. 3 day passes sold out around February 13th.

As of January 31st last year, 3-day tix were at GA 63.

Considering it took from 10:35pm yesterday to 12:39pm to go up 1 GA number. Rounding that to 12 hours per GA number for sh*ts and giggles... That would bring things to around GA 55/56 if the pace does not change at all. 7-8 numbers slower than last year. Make each GA number a hypothetical 500 tickets per and we're talking 4000 less tickets sold compared to around the same time last year. That's a little over $1 million less revenue

Last year the Camping Passes sold-out right after the 3-Day Pass on Feb 13th.Then when more 3 Day Passes became available, the bottom dropped out of the 3 Day Pass market on E Bay and some people had a hard time unloading theirs for even face value, while the Camping Ticket stayed overpriced, thanks to scarcity and people like Delta who scalped one a few weeks before the show for around $200,if I remember correctly.
Get a camping pass now,if you are on the fence about going,so you don't end up sleeping in the parking lot at Wal-Mart!

I am waiting on another paycheck. I swear... if camping passes sell out before this coming Friday...I highly doubt it'll be that soon. It's just more reasonable to spend $65 on the camping pass now, knowing you'll more than likely find someone who'll buy it from you at face if you can't go.

suprefan

I wouldnt worry about the camping as bad, since we kind of were warned about it. And yeah camping was a more scarce thing than tickets last year cause by then every hotel was booked and whoever was on a budget had to fork over the cash to grab a camping ticket on ebay.

I have a theory about why the single-day tickets went so incredibly fast.I think ticket agencies don't know shit about the lineup, and looked at their profit margins from last years Sat and Sun,and bought a boatload of tickets. They probably aren't as eager to take a chance on the 3-Day passes (not as easy to sell, esp. Friday) but couldn't resist the chance to make the 300 and 400% returns like they did last year.I truly hope this is the case, and that the strategy results in a glut of tickets for face value (or less) close to the show.

shakermaker113
01-28-2008, 07:44 AM
maybe they stopped selling single day tickets because they are not currently advertising which bands are on which days. and once they finalize which day is which they will resume selling them.

if single day tickets are truly sold out, then I feel sorry for everyone who bought one and is left wondering who will be playing on the day they got tickets.

It might be tracking the GA's using your IP address and checking how high it is from the city you are in.

Just like when you have an AMC movie watcher card. In LA you might have 200 points but if you go to SF and use if for the first time you will have 2 points. Similar in a way.

for those that freak-out about the GA #s going down and up: that happens when people who have already purchased their tickets release them. they go back into the fold at the same number they were when they were sold and stay there until sold again. don't worry.

So just so we're clear at where we are now with the 3-day ticket GA numbers

As of 6:40pm (January 31, 2008) the tickets are at GA52 It has been at GA52 since around 9pm last night when I checked. The only exception was this afternoon when it danced around 24, 22, 21, and 46.

Almost exactly one year ago (January 31, 2007), 3-day tickets were at GA63

That is 11 GA numbers off last year's pace if the ticket system is being done exactly the same. If each GA number holds 500 tickets then that's 5500 tickets off last year's pace or $1.48 million

Yeah, but it offers the same 48 hour promise for all ticketmaster tickets. When I bought four tickets to see Springsteen in LA, I never recieved my tickets. Don't sweat until April...if you ordered presale and haven't heard anything by then...well, that would be the time to start following up with Ticketbastard.

They bounced around due to orders cancelling and whatnot. It happens all the time. Last year it went to GA125? Right before they sold out the numbers changed cause of that but then no more. Camping wen to GA30 then it sold out, but they released more and of course it went higher than that I imagine. So if the numbers for 3 days stay the same course it ''sells out'' at 125 give or take.

well, I would encourage buying tickets early if this were printed in the LA Times or something, but I don't think this message board is getting that kind of circulation. But you all are right, the fact that people buy tickets early is good for me. I really don't care what you all do, I just wonder why so many seem to stress the early-purchase. I'd rather save $100. show you? I don't know how to show you, you'll just have to take my word for it I guess. It's really as simple as waiting until a couple of weeks before the festival when the reality of paying for such a huge trip causes many to cancel their plans. There's so many tickets to go around. Last year I didn't buy from a private party, I actually did that presale thing through ducat king (which was a great price). Unless Goldenvoice is somehow shrinking the attendance limit per day, there will be plenty of tickets to go around.

I do understand the appeal of buying straight from Ticketmaster for your security reasons. There are tons of seedy people out there. I usually have plenty of conversation with the sellers and look at their driver's license etc.

Yes...wouldn't the single day tix have different GA numbers?

IF they sold 10,000 single day tix for each day last year, that would make 50,000 3 days. At GA 125...that's 400 per section, not 500.

In any case, we have no clue what the numbers mean. All we can tell is whether this week sells slower/faster than last week. Obviously it's slowed way down, but if there's 800 per section this year, it could be damn close to selling out.

scoop49er
02-11-2008, 04:28 AM
i have a friend who works at ticketmaster and he helped me with this theory last year. usually allotments for festivals are at 500 but obviously do vary. normally if you see a difference in numbers.for example, from ga 57 to ga 125, usually this means those are tickets that have been released that cannot be placed in the original allotment so they are given a outside number. this happens alot for comp tickets for basketball games, football and regular concerts. when the big numbers popped up last year, it was closer to the festival. but it was around ga87 last year and normally with single day and comps, it hit 60,000. i see it not selling out at this time. i think they are at 35.000 right now and selling briskly but they wil get a good crowd out there, but no sell out. unless there is a addition that can get 10,000 sold.

wildlifeanalysis
02-11-2008, 07:22 AM

honestly there are alot of factors why this event wont sell out. the headliners they have is not what u would called very "sexy". what i mean is the lineup doesnt stand out. plus with the recession issues and more festivals popping up, it is a uphill battle for them.. but 50,000 for the lineup they have is a success in my opinion. but if they had expectations of 60,000 then they are gonna be disappointed

It would be interesting to see the cost of this years lineup vs. that of '07. With a less, to some, interesting lineup this year, it's possible they could still make more $ even without selling out this year. RATM & Bjork are not cheap to book I'd imagine.

Didn't camping sell out at GA70 last year on Feb 13th,the same day the 3-day passes sold out?

Damn! Sharp memory eh?

I think they just changed the numbering system, rendering this entire thread completely and utterly useless. It's part of the "Jack" plan,to keep us guessing this year...

Yeah, I bought my camping ticket the instant they went on sale and got GA63. I kept dawdling during the pre-sale because I was still debating wheter or not to buy one and got GA5.

I'm trying to figure out the whole numbering system also. I think there may be a way to gage these a bit better.

Last night I checked and my hard Camping Pass was GA64. I don't remeber the exact label, but there was also a Section or Row labeled GA09. Then there was a third for seat or row (I don't remember the exact labeling and forgot to write it down, maybe someone can look at their hard ticket and do a follow up post - I can check tonight and post it tomorrow). The third number was 164.

Thus I have a theory that for each GA number there are at least 9 Sub Sections containing at least 164 tickets. So if we are now at GA 69 on the camping passes, and they started at GA63. Assuming that each GA has the same allotment, there has to have been at least 9 x 164 x 6 = 8856 tickets sold for the general sections GA63 through GA68. Does anyone have a Row/Section higher than GA09, or a final number higher than 164? If they only sell 10,000 camping passes this year, it looks to me like they are going to sell those out this week.

BZZZZZ...I've got 263 and 264.

That would be 14256 tickets by your formula.

Dani, this seems like the dominant thread in the tickets forum this year. Will you warn us here when camping is close to selling out?I would PM you,but I figure you'll see this anyway, and I don't know if the PM thing for you is more work,or not.
Thanks,
Your Former President and Great Emancipator,

I think camping started at GA68 this year. I bought them pretty much as soon as they went on sale, and I got GA68. I know some people a couple pages back said thats what they got when they went on sale too.

???

On page two, there's several GA63s.

I got GA66 on the Sunday after they went on sale.
