View Full Version : Who are the rockers of this lineup?

I like a lot of electronica, but to justify going to this festival, I need to see some good rock music.

It can be rock of any genre: prog, metal, punk, etc. I just need to know who so I can check out some of their songs.

Any recommendations based on these parameters?

If you're into electronic, you should be sucking at the teet of Sasha & Digweed. Not sure exactly how long it's been since the duo have appeared together, let alone in the US, but this is significant.

Also, Hot Chip should be really amazing. I'm not that familiar with Justice, but I've heard they were a highlight of last year.

And for the love of god, if you haven't seen Kraftwerk, you should know where all this bleep-blip shit started.

Cheers,

If Pendulum plays a live set... you can rock out with your cock out my friend.
And yes, HOT CHIP rawks live even if the lead singer looks like Brain from the Thunderbirds...

Actually I'm hoping to immerse myself in most of these bands in the next 3 months, and wouldn't mind some tips on some lesser-known bands, rock or electronic. I think the best chances to rock are:
Friday: Battles, Raconteurs
Saturday: Flogging Molly, Hot Chip, and (I'll get flamed here) DCFC - they put on a higher-energy show than most ppl assume. Oh and don't miss MGMT
Sunday: MMJ, Gogol Bordello, Man Man, Les Savy Fav, Annuals

dredg will definitely put on an amazing live show. seen em twice and once they blew glassjaw off stage! pendulum will be good too if they play a live set. and enter shikari will rock, but that doesn't mean they're that good. personally, i think they're a strange pick for coachella, and if they wanted an emo/metalcore type band, there's hundreds of better ones than ES...oh well

Madness seemed to be a favorite amongthe DJs that listed the names on the stream so ill have to look into them again but I recall Myspace listing them as Ska.

Personaly Roger Waters ( Ofcourse ), My Morning Jacket, Floggin Molly, Gogol Bordello, Hot Chip, Metric, Raconteurs, the Verve and the Breeders are among my list of rock performances to see.

If it helps any, Psychic Friend posted a list of the performers that you can check out.
http://www.coachella.com/updates/news Myspace links along with Youtube.
Hope you find something new that you like :D

I saw him at one of the Acoustic Christmases. It seems all the hippies and all the 1970's Brady Bunch looking people's ears pricked up when his barefoot ass walked onstage.

It was folk torture for me.

Madness definitely are worth a listen. one of the best bands and funnest bands of the early 1980's bar none. And yeah, they're ska. But don't hold it against them. They are actually good in their own right.

I didnt mean that to sound bad in anyway at all, sorry if it did :)

I dont listen to music for what genre it is labeled as... honestly if it is good music then it is good music. period.
...and ofcourse music is best experienced LIVE in the crowd, in the moment with the right atmosphere.
To me, THAT is what Coachella is.

I just want to second Love + Rockets and Gogol Bordello. So happy to see Gogol make the jump up three or four lines from last year.

I saw The Breeders in '94- bad sound that time, but assuming you can actually hear them, they'll rock the place. And Madness might be fun...or it could be another Happy Mondays debacle.

EDIT...can you tell I'm the old guy? My wife's been listening to XMU and she said she likes MGMT

Roo 07... However, Girl Talk's set blew their set out of the water. (I saw it from onstage... insanity)

I just picked up Les Savy Fav's album "Inches," and this stuff is pretty good. I'll have to make my way over to their set for sure.
