This sort of came out of left field, but I'm excited. Why no "so alive" -- wasn't that the song that sort of made their careers?

so alive killed it in my opinion. it was just too pop for a band that was gothedelica. I just made up that word.
Everything else they did before that was more thoughtful and large.
Their first two albums were my favorites, I was obsessed with them.

I can see where you are coming from. I agree with you that their albums prior were much better (at least more like everything else they did)...would be sort of unrealistic to think that they aren't going to play so alive...but, I am certain their set will be fantastic, regardless!

Love and Rockets should have headlined on friday. HHHhhhmmm... Why not....Tones on Tail. That would have been great. Oh I can just imagine seeing them while on some strong "E" & some "Supa GDP" <~~~Kush. Man, that would be soooo kick ass!!!

Lurker_in_a_tree

tones on tail were wonderful. but it's unrealistic to think about that. they were the least successful of the Bauhaus/Tones/L&R trilogy.
don't get me wrong. there isn't a tones on tail song I don't adore. Maybe we'll at least hear "Go"?

I love Earth, Sun, Moon

I would love to hear them perform "Youth"
but doubt that will happen

or even "Here on Earth"

But I think "Waiting for the Flood"
would be more likely

But who knows...

And yeah,
I hope they play "Go"

If they are headed in the same direction as Bauhaus (last CD with no tour) then it should be a "best of" performance.

Amazon doesn't carry Hot Trip To Heaven, Sweet F.A., and Lift. Anything they're going to play off those albums is probably on the greatest hits.

E-music (http://www.emusic.com/artist/Love-and-Rockets-MP3-Download/11530931.html) and Rhapsody (http://www.rhapsody.com/loverockets) has every album but Lift. If you have an E-music subscription, you could probably download all the the albums above for $30.

FYI - most of those albums on Amazon are NOT the re-mastered versions, and to be honest the sound on them is so-so at best.

UPDATE - I take that back, when I looked at Express the tracklisting, it IS the remastered version - so I guess just make sure the records you by were the ones released in 2002 (remastered) and not earlier.

Those are all remastered versions on Amazon except for Earth Sun Moon.

BTW, the "so-so" versions have been living in my collection for the last 20 years or so, and have served me just fine. Though I will admit Express was always a muddy mess- I wouldn't mind getting a new version of that one.

Not really. More like a poppier Tones On Tail. But then, I guess anyone who hasn't heard L+R wouldn't know ToT either.

It's funny how everything has flipped back around to the right order now. I was in high school during Love + Rockets peak, and I remember my friend saying "Oh, you gotta check out this old band Bauhaus...it's Love + Rockets with a different singer."

Also - a little tidbit of useless info: Mirror People was written about a small club here in Columbus, Ohio. Crazy Mamas. Back in the day (long since gone) the kids would go dress up and dance in the strobe lights, the dance room was floor to ceiling mirrors, hence the lyrics and song title.

Who knows? Who cares? I've never really seen heard any indication one way or another of their sexuality.

If Mr Nosy must know who's fucking who, I do know that Kevin (drums) is married with kids and his brother David (bass) has a son.

Lucky you guys to have a choice. We literally have one music store here now...a Hastings. (I don't count Barnes & Noble...music is still a side thing for them, and I've never found ANYTHING I was looking for there.)

I agree, but in reverse. Neither one should have been on the second line. They both should be first on the third line. Just like The Breeders, who are exactly where they should be this year.

But the problem this year is not the billing, it's the lack of bigger acts. I just don't see anyone else on Sunday who should be higher.

On the jumbled poster, they are on the same line as The Breeders and Justice. That's about right.

Disagree.

Like it or not. While it's their weakest album "Love and Rockets" was number 14 on the billboard charts, back when that was actually a feat. The single "So Alive" reached number 3. The band was headlining outdoor amphitheater venues.

The breeders only charted on the Modern Rock chart, and was only headlining venues at about 2000 capacity at their height. These days, they're lucky to fill 500.

Sonic Youth, have also yet to chart on the billboard top 200. They still consistently draw a crowd the size of Love and Rockets' last tour in 99. However, they are not a reunion. They tour frequently... whereas L&R played what was supposed to be their final show almost 10 years ago.

Mostly good points here. Even if you forget about "So Alive", L+R have a ton of "classic alternative rock" radio staples. Assuming they do the standard 50 minute set, they can easily fill the whole thing with "hits", just like Jesus & Mary Chain did last year. Not so with The Breeders.

Of course, Coachella billing is not about charts and hits. There's an intangible involved.

Sonic Youth get the "legends" award of the three, but you're right...a Sonic Youth show is not a special event.

I still think top of the 3rd line is where both L+R and SY belong...but you've convinced me The Breeders are billed too high. Hell, even at their absolute peak, during Lollapalooza '94, they were billed under George Clinton.

I couldn't find the LA Times article from yesterday about this. I miss Edie.

Bauhaus bassist directing Edie Sedgwick stage show

David J, bassist of Bauhaus, has written and will be directing an upcoming stage biopic on 60s Warhol muse, Edie Sedgwick. It's playing here in Hollywood in March and the show promises to be different from everything we've seen about Sedgwick since her death. Plus, some dude from Bahaus wrote it!

Ok, so I know this isn't technically movies, but the last Sedgwick fair, Factory Girl, got a ton of buzz and I know of you enjoy and appreciate her. SO SHUSH.

Anyway, David J's stage production is called Silver For Gold and it will hold an exclusive run at The Met Theatre in Hollywood. According to David J (from PlugInMusic.com):

Based on the life of Edie Sedgwick - Andy Warhol's brilliant muse - the stage production explores one of the most charismatic yet misunderstood figures in popular culture. Starring multifaceted performer Monique Jenkinson as Edie, Silver For Gold traces the heroine's dazzling rise and eventual downward spiral in a mythological theatrical experience that is part one-woman show, part rock concert replete with avant-garde minimalist staging and video imagery.
"Writing Silver For Gold, it felt as if I had entered into a subtle psychic relationship with this beautiful dead girl and she was actively encouraging me to write," says David J. "She became a bright light that glowed all the brighter whenever I started to create. It was as if she was feeding on the attention. This might sound highly fanciful but that is how it felt. Edie was enduring in her ultimate role, that of the muse."

Even newer, but I don't care for this much. If I just heard this and didn't know who it was, I might have guessed Thrill Kill Kult. (I love Thrill Kill Kult, but one of them is enough in this world.)

Whatever. I liked 'em better when they were 80's psuedo-goths, but I was an 80's psuedo-goth, so...

Hahahhaha..

Well, I'm thinking songs like Sweet Lover Hangover, Natashca, Clean off Sweet FA.. and stuff like RIP 20 C, My Drug, Ghosts of the Multiple Feature off of Lift.

I never quite understood why Holy Fool was used as the single for that album... it doesn't really sound much like anything else on the album (which is due to it being a collaboration with Luscious Jackson)

That explains a lot.

I never really payed attention to their 90's stuff. Self titled turned me off, and that was still the 80's. I listened to Hot Trip a couple times, but at the time it didn't do anything for me. Never listened to anything after that. First 3 albums are all I need, personally.

I'm glad to see that there are a lot of people that ONLY like their later stuff, though. That means they didn't turn to crap, they just went in a different direction. I'm sure I'm more open minded now than I was 15 years ago, so I'm looking forward to hearing the newer songs.

But, if it's anything like JAMC last year, don't expect to hear much of it.

I just started watching the videos on page 2, and I'm getting really excited to see Love & Rockets, nice gothy 80's flashback. And who said something derogatory about Daniel's hair? You can't have Daniel Ash without the crazy spiky rockstar hair!

Well, in 99.. they toured for the first time in several years.. The setlist for the first leg of the tour only had one song from the first four albums, "Mirror People".

The second leg was a much longer tour and featured a good interspersing of hits inbetween the new songs.. but the new album was still almost featured in full.

With the Lollapalooza press release claiming that there's a new album on the way... It's anyone's guess..

Love and rockets is the main reason I am going. I never saw this reunion coming. When they were at the Joe struemer tribute, I hoped they would do more.

Have they aged well?

I mean they looked pretty cool as Bauhaus a couple years back, but it would be a bit of a buzzkill if they showed up looking like IT guys.

Daniel Ash better have the hair.

Hard to tell, but it appears not. But he does look even more feminine.

Yeah, but they had a new album to promote. I'm sure Jesus & Mary Chain probably played a ton of stuff off Munki on their last tour in '98. But at Coachella, it was pretty much the old hits. They did one new song, and might have done Cracking Up.

Love and Rockets are going to be fucking awesome. I can't see them ignoring the first four records. Things are different when you are touring behind an album.

That is pretty much what M Sparks said. He is obviously intelligent.

I'm still claiming Earth, Sun, Moon over everything.

According to the Lollapalooza website.. they have a new album coming out soon.

I'll be happy either way..

Dream set for me. Ball of confusion for an opener(always a good show starter). Kundalini express(goofy second number). Holy fool(maybe to get in something from their last release.)No new tale to tell(to get David J's vocal talents in)The dog end of a day gone by(just getting into this song. Really cool, and kind of like a chant.).Sweet lover hangover(kind of brings the moody part of the set).Ying yang and the flowerpot man(brings the set back to a goofy bouncy feel).Mirror people(keep the audience on their feet clapping away.)All in my mind(bring it down for a nice acoustic feel). So alive(the major"Hit" for them). And of course to close It could be sunshine. I know that's 12 songs. I said it's my dream coachella set for them. They actually might thrown in the clash cover of should I stay or should I go they relecently did.
