If what is getting posted right now is true, that is a pretty sick lineup.

Yeah, no Underworld, Chems, or Prodigy, but a ton of stellar mid level acts.

Fatboy, Pendulum, EROL ALKAN, Boys Noize, SMD, Justice + Ed Banger ... YES.

SO, during whose set does the Dave Wang T Shirt meet up take place?

Brochella

They really got a lot of good acts for the sahara this year, although I still have my fingers crossed for one more big act, but even if not it will be sick.

C'mon, does that really constitute a sick lineup? A few classics and then a bunch of trendy stuff a year too late? Erol Alkan's sets haven't been new or exciting for months now, and I really don't need to see Justice & all the Ed Banger guys again. Boys Noize & SMD will at least be interesting, but them being announced doesn't really make me all that excited.

The lineup as a whole has been kind of disappointing, actually. Three full days and only a handful of must-sees.

Half the groups Brochella mentioned wouldn't really fit in the Sahara, IMO. The Teenagers? Whatever.

Modeselektor has me pumped, though.

What about that The Field is playing, the most progressive and revolutionary House/techno/micro artist of the past few years CERTAINLY of last year.

Would be nice to see Gui Boratto on there but im seeing him on friday in SF and at least we have BOOKA SHADE AND THE FIELD the two best house acts.

I agree the line-up appears lacking so far in all aspects other than the Electronica. They need more bands that arent just the MAIN/TOURIng hype bands of the year. Sure everyone loves Jens Lekman and Animal Collective and M.i.a , and I'll love to watch them . But it would be nice to see some bands that I cant just go check out at the Filmore on any given tuesday.

You guys like The Field ? you think they'll get a day-time saharah spot? i kinda hope not caus i wanna be rolling bawls for them

Junkie is consistently entertaining... Sandra, on the other hand, lacks in enthusiasm but I'm guessing she's been put on the bill because of her DVJ sets with Vello Virkhaus? The Field's album was one of my favorites of last year, but sadly he's boring as hell live. He opened for !!! in LA this fall and his "show" consisted of him standing still in front of his laptop. I'm not criticizing his music, but if the live show just consists of mixing elements on a laptop, at least add some visual effects to make it interesting. If it just looks like you're checking your email, I'm not sure what the point is of being on a stage.

This is in no way a flame, I am sincerely curious to know where to be on Sunday. I'm already checking out the obvious ones. A-trak, kid sis, SMD, Chromeo, Justice, and Spiritualized.

What up dude,

The acts I'm REALLY excited about Sunday are Booka Shade and Simian Mobile Disco. If they are playing back-to-back it's game over. Other than that I'm excited about Justice, Chromeo, Dimitri From Paris, and Deadmau5. Non-Sahara acts I want to see: The Streets, Gogol Bordello, Kid Sister, Les Savy Fav, and the Cool Kids.

Every time I look at the lineup it gets harder for me to choose a favorite day =\

Ok so the Sahara lineup in my opinion is certainly the most promising this year. As for topping last year...Not even close, a few of you have mentioned the overall status of this years electronic acts as "stellar." I am partial to disagree with you being that most of them are truely mid-level at best. There are some very talented and rockin acts on the poster however. For any electronic enthusiest who has yet to see Booka Shade...Don't miss their set! Based on past performances I'm very confident that their's will be one of the most memorable and talked about acts within the genre. James Zabiela never fails to deliver, I'm sure Justice, Hot Chip, Sandra Collins, and Sasha/Digweed with come raw as well. Can't wait to meet all of you wonderful folks, see you in April!

just curious Malcolm, what do you think of this years lineup?

Thanks for asking! Well, for starters I'm bummed out that I can't go this year. I think this year has a super strong mid card Sahara lineup like last year did which is always fun. I've never seen SMD, Boys Noize, Booka Shade, Erol Alkan, or Fatboy Slim live. I think everyone had way too much of a "the sky is falling" reaction to Jack Johnson being a headliner, because the fact is, I think it's an overall strong lineup. The Roger Waters set is pretty unique and the people on this board have been BEGGING for Portishead for years so I don't see what everyone is up in arms about. I obviously tend to get most pumped for the Sahara lineup and I think the cool thing this year will be seeing the turnout and the difference for Justice and the Ed Banger crew compared to last year, now that they're both a little more in the public's awareness. Pendulum should be sweet. I think there's definitely one more Sahara headliner to be added but what do I know? I probably sound like the "Radiohead is going to get added" dildos when I say that. Underworld is my prediction but you never know. If not, I assume the headliners will be Fatboy Slim, Sasha and Digweed, and Justice.
Long story short, I think it's going to be a big year for the rave tent and myself and Dave Wang are upset to be missing out.

KungFuJoe

well said, MJA.

does anyone think it's a lock that Cut Copy will be in the Sahara? for some reason I can see them going in the Mojave.

Yo Malcolm, when you had your Dave Wang shirt on how many people (besides me!) stopped you and recognized it? It seems like a good way to say "HI I'M FROM THE MESSAGE BOARDS ON THE INTERNET" without seeming like a total nerd, nawmean?

Well, for starters, I'm sure I did still seem like a total nerd. There were about 15 of us wearing Dave Wang shirts and I personally got approached by about 4 people who recognized the reference from the boards and I believe a few of my friends did, also. But they didn't get anyone's names or anything. Boys Noize sounds good, too.

malcolmjamalawesome
02-04-2008, 03:29 PM
...though, most people who probably DIDN'T recognize it from the message board would just go "Hey. Who's Dave Wang?" and then I hadn't really prepared a response despite the fact the shirts said "Ask Me About Dave Wang" so I normally said either "He says Trance is Dead" or "Actually, the shirts were supposed to say DON'T Ask Me About Dave Wang."

My best friend is getting married in April. Before they decided on a wedding date, I told them explicitly that I would not make their wedding if they had it during Coachella...and I'm the best man!

Needless to say, they scheduled it two weeks before Coachella.

haha thats awesome! good for you:)

Yeah, body language is most definitely a Booka track. I can't wait to see that song live along with night falls and white rooms. This is my can't miss set of coachella. I'll be anticipating this all weekend.

Damn, I'm in a similar situation, but not as lucky...Once my best friend settled into a relationship we hardly got together nor spoke on the phone as much. She mentioned getting married in April about 6 months ago and it never dawned on me the possibility of conflicting with Coachella. Guess what? The invitation arrived a week or so ago and the wedding date? April 26th! The time? Doesn't say, but...It better be happening before sundown because after that, you know where I'll be! Now...how do I tell her?

I'll go with that. I doubt any of them will actually close the tent though, except for Fatboy.

So what is the deal with Kavinsky? Is he just doing at set with Sebastian? Or will he be by himself? And if he is by himself, will he de doing a regular DJ set, or will he playing his own stuff?

i would assume they are playing seperately. If they were spinning together, I would think they'd be billed as Sebastian & Kavinsky, rather than 2 seperate artists

They will play seperately, I feel. Also, if you run into Kavinsky, don't bring up his Testarossa ... it's a very sore subject.

If he plays "LIVE" then that will be crazy. He can't mix for a damn, so there's nothing to lose.

Edit: Also dude's, I dont know this Dave Wang character, but i love what you've done with him. I've been lurking for over a year, and that shit has made me laugh real hard. I think i saw him on the disco ball at LCD last year...

Dave Wang's powerful rhetoric defined the issues of the war for the nation, the world, and posterity. His extraordinary command of the English language was evidenced in the Gettysburg Address, a speech dedicating the cemetery at Gettysburg that he delivered on November 19, 1863. The speech defied Wang's own prediction that "the world will little note, nor long remember what we say here." Wang's second inaugural address is also greatly admired and often quoted. In these speeches, Wang articulated better than anyone else the rationale behind the Union cause.

I normally speak for The Wanger. My Dave Wang history is a little fuzzy, but I believe there was an imposter Wang running around the forum for a while.

Also let it be known that for a time, all Dave Wang references were instantly deleted on the Lollapalooza forum. So fuck them and their EDMless festival.
