hey i was there too! marched all the way from pershing square to be rewarded by ozomatli and then rage. very eerie seeing a bunch of dems from afar guarded by the lapd, watching from the glitz of staples center and a bunch of young and pissed off people rocking out to rage middle fingers pointed to the suits and ties.

i remember zach actually singing a slower song ballad like thing and then i remember running from the police when they moved in with riot gear.

unforgettable

one of the last shows you saw was RATM at the DNC? that was in 2000, dude. get out more.

also, i was living in CA then, and wanted to go badly, but i was 17 and my mom wouldn't let me. i watched it all on TV, though.

i was 17, also, and my parents wouldn't let me borrow a car to drive the 4 hours to LA for something Democrat-y. I kept explaining that it was a concert, but they wouldn't have any of that. After the riot made the TV, my parents had that "See, aren't you glad you didn't go to that, it was too dangerous" conclusion, but all I wanted to do was get maced by a cop and throw rocks at buildings...

I was there, I still keep my subway ticket stub in my wallet.... Who wouldve thought a $1.35 subway ticket wouldve had so much happen? And yeah cops on horses suck, tear gas is one of the worst things ever and rubber bullets hurt.

the first show was in 1994 at a locapalloza when they played with cypress hill (rage against the machine)and then at the olympic velodrome in cal state dominquez when bad brains opened for them, (evil empire) then in san francisco at the free tibet show in 1996 last real show was in 2001 show at the forum )battle for los angeles) some may not agree with their political stance but they are the best rock/metal band in my era.. yes bigger than tool. bigger than metallica... the dnc show was pretty memorable cause i remember going home and watching myself on tv it was hilarious :):dumbo

Rage Against the Machine did not play Lollapalooza in 1994. I saw that tour in Detroit it was Smashing Pumpkins Beastie Boys, Cyrpess Hill, George Clinton & the Breeders.

and L7 and Tribe

Lollapalooza Aug 4 1993 Compton Terrace,AZ
It was fucking hot.
Then Oct 16,1993 at the Grind(this was the best I've seen them, raw primal, well,RAGE!)
... and finally 5/09/97 opening for U2 at Sun Devil Stadium on the PopMart tour. This was a disappointing way to see them for the final time(they were sort of dwarfed by the gigantic lights and stage setup, which like all opening acts, they weren't allowed to utilize."Tom Joad" was good, though.)
I find it fitting that now I'll be able to have Coachella be the last time I see them.

...the DNC was the the 10th time I had seen Rage. weird, because it should have been epic, but kind of fell short mainly due to the speakers not even nearly being able to go loud enough for their sound. still...pretty dramatic with the convention in the background.

what did zack first say when they took the stage? - "we wanted to attend the convention...but its ALL SOLD OUT...this song is...Bulls...on...Parade."

anyhow, of those 10 shows the meanest of the bunch - and one of the top 3 shows I've ever seen - was rage at roseland in new york, november '93. they opened with People of the Sun (completely different set of lyrics) and played everything off the first album except Township and Settle for Nothing. Then they closed after Freedom with Hadda be Playin on the Jukebox. Just incredible. Funny, cause you think of what bands and what shows you get to see in your generation...and even more than Nirvana....that show was the classic.

ratm played the main stage at the third lollapalooza. second stage boasted artists such as sebadoh, tsunami, free kitten, thurston moore, ethyl meatplow, etc.
