View Full Version : Thoughts on Bruce Springsteen @ Coachella?

This isn't so much a "I WISH HE WERE PLAYING @ COACHELLA" thread as much as it is a curiosity thread. I'm wondering what your thoughts of Bruce being at Coachella OR if you'd see him if he were to perform.

With his new album getting great reviews and his name being mentioned by so many new up and coming bands, I don't think it'd be completely out of the question for him to play. I don't know how likely it is, but it'd be cool.

Thoughts?

His fans alone ruin the experience...I just saw him a few ago and the fans ruined the experience...oh and that rediculous facial expression he gets on his face that looks like he's pinching a loaf...other than that he and his JAM!!!

I'd watch him, but don't think he'd be a popular choice with some of the more blinkered festival goers.

I think its hard to get a headliner that will appeal to EVERYONE that goes to the festival. Sure there are a few bands here n there that can pull it off, but at this point they'd be repeat headliners (Radiohead) and people would probably complain about that.

I would love to see them in concert just not at Coachella. Monroe St and Thunder Road don't mix.

Hit those skins Sil, just like Adriana's head.

since it's always been a Coachella hallmark to have bands that have been influential to the current crop of artists making good tunes, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band would definitely work.

But the other headliners better be major.

?? Other than The Killers ripping him off a bit on their new cd, I'm not sure who else The Boss has influenced.

I'd like to see him at Coachella.

I listened to Darkness of the edge of of town this week. Lots of heart. Reminded me of standing on the curb with just a pair of shorts and tennis shoes on and drinking beer with friends.

Not a great fit at the polo fields, but he's an absolutely amazing performer. Should he ever get booked, I'd be thrilled to see him again.

Yeah Keep the Car Running very born to run

I actually think "No Cars Go" is the most Born to Run-like song in existence. It's got the wall of sound driven by a thudding baseline. It's got horns and shit. it's got the dramatic tension and emotional buildup and release and catharsis. It's even got an ending that goes oh oh oh oh oh oh oh.

oh, and it has the word "car" in its title. Do you know how many Springsteen songs are about cars, or highways, or driving cars on highways, usually in a remote stretch of godforesaken shit highway either in the middle of the desert, or in the middle of snow-frosted cornstubble black-and-white fields, or running next to the dull green glow of a stinky oil refinery at 1 am. A lot of them are. that's how many

edit. oddly enough Born to Run makes an allusion to riding a motorcycle, rather than driving a car. weird.

Tunnel of Love is some five-star stuff. The "adult" songwriting record, and his last total masterpiece. I would say it is held back by the dated production, but then that new War on Drugs album came along . . .

Here are my rankings. (http://www.coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?50632-Bruce-Springsteen-2012-Dates&p=2837054&viewfull=1#post2837054)

Tracks is superb though. I still haven't heard The Promise.
