It seems to me that there IS good food to be found at reasonable prices. My favorite vendor is a certain taco stand that serves great chicken soft tacos. I saw a lady get covered in salsa after squeezing the plastic bottle too hard. I think maybe a chunk of tomato was stuck in the nozzle, and she just kept squeezing it until it exploded. Anybody care to offer up some favorites?

there was a taco stand inside the beer garden by the sahara tent that made some really good tacos for a cheap price. also there was a pizza place at the garden between the 2 outdoor stages that made some good lasagna and pizza. i dont expect great cuisine, but good decent slop and those 2 were very good for slop! :)

It's all about the barbecue.

I got some garlic parmesean fries in 2006, which were tasty times, especially since they gave me ranch for dipping.

I thought it was helpful how they broke up the food vendors by region this year.

But by far the most entertainment in the food area is watching people get sick when they drink booze with a fully load funnel cake.

Or watching someone trying to handle those giant pizza slices on those tiny flimsy paper plates.

Wheres the beef?

Whoever brought the stand with different kinds of fruit drinks was the best. The pineapple juice kicked ass in the heat. Then at the bottom of the cup youre left with ice and real pineapple, which is awesome to chew on.

A couple of years there was a pizza place that had vegan pizza, with hummus, pesto, lots of veggies. Best food I have had there. There was also a Indian stand with curry with real saffron. Yummy! One place had raw, organic, vegan brownies, etc. Very tasty. I try to avoid the greasy or sugary food when I am out in the hot sun all day.

The real fruit smoothies are absolutely fantastic. I love them. They are sweet and cold and perfect. Damn I want one now.

I tried the calamari last year and I never had greasier food in my life. It made me ill. Way too much breading and deep fried to death.

The pizza for the people group who worked out of an ice cream truck offered great pizza a few years back.

The BBQ vendors hit the spot this year. I need to check the Stagecoach website to see who won the BBQ contest.

For the second year in a row, the Sweet Leaf booth continued to supply great tasting tempeh burgers, fruit smoothies, ice cold apple juice, and great tasting tea.

Yes! If its the same place I'm thinking of, there was a veggie mexican food stand over by the outdoor theater that was fucking awesome. There quesadilla's and burritos kicked ass. Also some burgers and veggie burgers that were being barbeque'd over by the entrance rocked.

They need more breakfast joints over by the tents tho! That egg and that unnatural squeezed cheese sandwiches were not cutting it..

My favorite was the hawaiian barbecue place with beef/pineapple/rice bowls. That was delicious.

I also had some decidedly mediocre chicken strips which served only to fill my stomach while I tried to recoup some energy during the Fratellis. I'm not sure whether it was the chicken strips bringing down my opinion of the show, or vice versa. Either way, that half-hour was about the least enthusiastic I was all weekend.

I liked the turkey corn dogs at the European food vendors...I thought that was weird tho. My boyfriend tried the veggie corn dog the next day and it totally upset his tummy...ALMOST made him miss Soulwax. I too tried the Hawaiian Barbecue but theres nothing Hawaiian about it really. But it was delicious just the same. You really shouldn't eat too much at Coachella tho. Small meals are good. And yes the SWEET TEA is awesome on a hot day.

I had the Nachos Friday night at the place right beside the outdoor theatre. I felt really sick later on in the night, and almost missed Gogol Bordello because of it. However, the second the hit the stage, I no longer felt sick. No joke. They cured my sickness!

Jesus are the lemonades at Coachella ever good. I probably spent... almost $60 on lemonade over that weekend. But it was so worth it. I will probably do the same this year.
Also, do NOT each the Nachos in the South of the Border section. I almost missed Gogol due to how sick I was feeling after those nachos. Luckily, Gogol made all the bad feelings go away. Do not make the same mistake I did.
However I LOVED The Hawaiian BBQ rice bowls. Pinapples, rice and chicken. I had it just before I went and saw Rage, and it was delicious.

I had three of those in 2007, they are SO FUCKING GOOD.

The food was the biggest surprise for me at coachella, I was expecting FOODCORP INC. hotdogs and hamburgers and instead there were like 50 individual vendors selling all types of good shit.

Frozen Lemonade is the best when you're hot as hell! They last a decent amount of time for $5

We did the recycle water last year to save money (must've saved about $150 between the 3 of us) so we could drop more money on frozen lemonades. This year I am definitely hitting up those fruit smoothies once a day. I found the hand made lemonades to be extremely too sweet, every sip I took contained grains of sugar and at least one lemon seed. Plus the guy that took my cash was a huge douchebag - tried to fuck me over on my change ( i probably looked high as hell because I was ), I even tipped those people but when I overheard him talk shit because he did his math wrong and thought he got extra loot out of me I went and snatched my tip I gave right back. asshole.

I had spicy pie last year but think I'm going to try some of the other food available - I just get so worried about getting an upset stomach if I eat any chinese/thai/indian...

were we allowed to bring in snacks last year? I remember taking in all sorts of clif bars, almonds, granola bars, and water last year but can't remember if I snuck it in or not???

I had a pulled pork with beans at Big Willies and tried both tri tip places. The place closer to Willies had less bread and the meat was more moist.

I knew the other place was going to be a bad experience when the guy took the money from my hand rather than waiting for me to give to him.

I bought a chicken bowl by the 2nd stage (rice and chicken only) and watched as they made 20 people a bowl before me. They were nice enough to give me my money back. Only thing is that they did not appear to care.

I ate that chocolate bar from Sweet Leaf yesterday night. It was amazing. I don't know how they did it but it was a bunch of nuts and grains that stayed together somehow with a big strip of creamy chocolate on top of it. It was proboly even better when it was fresh. I guess vegatarians channel their desire for meat in various ways.

I did not see this group at Coachella this year but there was a Brazilian BBQ place at Detour this year that was selling the same amount of meat for the same price. They were efin good.

I think it was called Silvio's Brazilian BBQ. Did anybody see those guys doing the
limbo in the food court or the cashiers dancing samba? Cool f'n show. At least they're not a bunch of zombies selling crap.

I think, for meat eaters, this was the best bet for the show.

That spicy pizza.
Huge slices. Amazing.

6 dollars for a slice of shitty pizza...Granted, it tastes great if you're wasted but give it a shot when you're sober and you can practically pick the cardboard from between your teeth.

The absolute biggest waste of money this year...

The fucking Burritoburger place in between the gobi and outdoor theatre, how can you possibly fuck up two of the best food items.

Only does big festivals. Bummer.

Otherwise, beer battered garlic fries. but NOT from those "burgerrito" fucks. Fucking raincoat plastic cheese thrown on top. Husbands barf-errito had uncooked beef in the middle. Stupid bitches working there were all singing puff daddy songs at the top of their lungs. ugh.

Don't knock the burgerrito's! They were friggin tight! How could a burger wrapped in a tortilla rather than on a bun be bad? it also had garlic fries inside. Mine was cooked perfect but by the sound of it, you're one of those "well-done" bi-atches! Sounds like you got issues Buttons. Maybe you're jealous because your husband was gettin down with the bitches while they were singin' Puff!!!!!

I had the chicken tikka masala bowl (or something like that) from the Indian place. I think it was only 5 bucks. That shit was delicious (well it was chicken curry with rice, so it can't be bad), and totally worth the price (which is more than I can say for the spicy pie).

The $4 two-taco at the center of the Outside-Stage-Gobi-Tent food court was the best deal for me. I think that was the cheapest a person could get for a "meal".

There were also the garlic fries, not just any, I'm talking about the one in the food court opposite the Main stage, all the way to the left, the last stall. My friend remembered them specifically from the previous year and we sought them out for the last evening, rightfully so. Those were crispy and very yummy.

I am surprised that nobody has yet mentioned the organic Get Fried Rice place between the Outdoor Stage and the Gobi. This year I pretty much survived on their chicken fried rice, which was made with brown rice, fresh ginger, assorted veggies and sunflower seeds, topped with a big handful of fresh cilantro and an orange slice. Not to mention that they used reusable bowls and silverware instead of the plastic or paper disposable stuff. They ruled.

Did anyone actually wash dishes at the place by the Outdoor stage for a free meal as advertised? I liked the idea of the $1.00 refundable charge to eat out of a decent orange plastic bowl so the grounds stay clean.

Unfortunately, their food was probably the most expensive at the festival.

damn. I missed that. The other organic place with the folks from oregon was good... Expensive wraps, but delicious and I really liked the $11 plate with the marinated tofu.. And the smoothies rocked.

Strawberry Lemonade place in the food court was much better than those melting frozen lemonades served out of plastic bags from the churro cart vendors.

Vegi burgers at the "burger hut" or whatever it was were a travesty of a tiny tomato slice and two red onion rings on a cold and stale tasting white bread bun. Not slices, rings.

At the campground, I got charged $6 for an ICE COLD slice of stale pizza. Those cheesy curly fries were DISGUSTING.

I think this is the same place I just posted about above, although I did not see the advertising for washing dishes. They were pretty expensive though, yeah.

That sounds really good. Hopefully they'll come again in 2009 so I can check them out.

Sounds good. I seen lots of people walking with plates of rice.

Brown rice is a bastard to make. I made brown rice for dinner tonight. Half a cup of rice to 3 cups of water. It took 90 minutes to complete. It was nice and fluffy but the wait killed me.

Yep this is the same place. The Get Fried Rice stand. The food was excellent. Far better than is deserved at a festival like this (I jest of course).

But seriously, there was a big sign where you ordered that advertised getting a free meal if you washed dishes in the back. I wasn't sure if this wasn't just a similar tactic to that of the spicy pie place where "Tips Make Them Horny"
